You really have to listen to David Frum to understand just how melodramatic the Never Trumper became on CNN's New Day this morning in appealing to Americans to fight back against the former president. At the 1:15 point in the clip below, his voice filled with emotion, Frum actually cited the prophet Isaiah from the passage (Chapter 6) in which the Lord asks whom shall I send? and Isaiah answers, "send me!" Frum's point was that instead of waiting for some savior to come along to rescue American democracy from the evil clutches of Trump and his supporters, each American...

Pray For The Peace of JerusalemEsther 44 When Mordecai learned of all that had been done, he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and ashes, and went out into the city, wailing loudly and bitterly. 2 But he went only as far as the king’s gate, because no one clothed in sackcloth was allowed to enter it. 3 In every province to which the edict and order of the king came, there was great mourning among the Jews, with fasting, weeping and wailing. Many lay in sackcloth and ashes. 4 When Esther’s eunuchs and female attendants came and told her...

“Hypocrisy is a tribute vice pays to virtue,” observed the 17th century Francois VI, Duc de la Rochefoucauld. Author of Reflections and Moral Maxims, the duke would recognize the hypocrisies manipulating shell games over climate change, Black Lives Matter and indigenous peoples causes. Potentially disastrous global warming is attributed to the greenhouse effect of industrialized—and industrializing—societies’ burning fossil fuels and releasing carbon dioxide. Hence, the drive to “net zero” out use of coal, oil and natural gas. These are the fuels that produce the electricity keeping modern societies warm in winter, cool in summer and able to travel near and...

The director of Germany’s disease control agency said Thursday the country could have a “really terrible Christmas” if it doesn’t take steps to counter the surge in COVID-19 infections. Lothar Wieler, director of the Robert Koch Institute, is calling for large events to be canceled and clubs and bars to shut down in order to combat a rise in infections, The Associated Press reported. Along with the closures, Wieler wants COVID-19 vaccine passports to be used for many public venues and businesses, according to the news service.

If you’re politically on the Right in America, you can no longer count on equal justice under the law. Ihave often heard folk tales about how the Left used to be skeptical of state power. To a small extent, it still is. But only when the person in the defendant’s chair isn’t considered a political enemy. After quite clearly acting in self-defense, Kyle Rittenhouse has been dragged through a sham trial. A regular kangaroo court has been in session in Kenosha County, Wisconsin for weeks. The ringleader of the circus is a state prosecutor called Thomas Binger, who bears an...

Rupert Murdoch urged former President Donald Trump to focus on the issues facing Americans today and in the future, rather than on relitigating the 2020 election. “The current American political debate is profound, whether about education or welfare or economic opportunity,” Murdoch, executive chairman of News Corp., said on Wednesday during the company’s annual meeting of stockholders. “It is crucial that conservatives play an active, forceful role in that debate, but that will not happen if President Trump stays focused on the past.” Ever since President Biden’s victory, Trump has insisted that the election was “rigged” and that he really...

Republican infighting in Georgia is escalating as former Sen. David Perdue considers mounting a primary challenge against Gov. Brian Kemp in 2022. In a local radio interview, Perdue blamed onetime ally Kemp for President Joe Biden's win over former President Donald Trump in Georgia last November. It was the first defeat for a Republican presidential nominee in the Peach State since 1992. Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan, also under fire by some Republicans for the outcome in 2020, responded on Twitter with a scathing post that lampooned Perdue for losing his reelection bid to Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff. "Reminder to all...

So far, no one of note has emerged to take on Kemp and get the Trump endorsement. A Perdue bid for governor could change that. A simmering war within the Georgia Republican Party is about -- what else? -- Donald Trump. The former President -- still angry over how Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp responded to the 2020 election results in his state -- may get his wish for a credible primary challenger to the Republican leader. Republicans in the state have told CNN they expect former Sen. David Perdue to make a decision soon about running against Kemp in next...

I once looked forward to Throwback Thursdays. But lately for some odd reason all that comes to mind in the “throwback” department are thoughts of Jimmy Carter’s 70s: when Iran was calling the shots and threatening Americans with extinction, gas lines were interminable and hyperinflation a fact of life. You know, the good old days before we even had electric cars so it was harder to pretend we didn’t need fossil fuels at all (h/t Jennifer Granholm). Although in the spirit of TT you may recall that Jimmy did his best, in his Crisis of Confidence Speech, to convince us...

The Washington Post made headlines last week when it corrected and altered two stories that inaccurately identified a key source of the discredited anti-Trump Steele dossier – but the paper also added editor’s notes to at least 14 other reports. The two stories, published in March 2017 and February 2019, were changed when the newspaper’s executive editor, Sally Buzbee, said she could no longer stand by their accuracy. The post added editor’s notes, amended headlines, removed sections identifying Sergei Millian as the source and deleted an accompanying video summarizing the articles.

Why so many got this story so wrong. Here is what I thought was true about Kyle Rittenhouse during the last days of August 2020 based on mainstream media accounts: The 17-year-old was a racist vigilante. I thought he drove across state lines, to Kenosha, Wisc., with an illegally acquired semi-automatic rifle to a town to which he had no connection. I thought he went there because he knew there were Black Lives Matter protests and he wanted to start a fight. And I thought that by the end of the evening of August 25, 2020, he had done just...
