In an abrupt about-face on Wednesday, President Trump said he was calling off planned tariffs on European nations over his pursuit of Greenland. Trump cited the "framework of a future deal" reached with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
"This solution, if consummated, will be a great one for the United States of America, and all NATO Nations. Based upon this understanding, I will not be imposing the Tariffs that were scheduled to go into effect on February 1st," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Maybe I need more exposure in those.
This is good. Markets can settle down now
I was in QQQ and IWM options...wohoo! They really spiked...FINALLY!
I’m about 15% in long term treasuries.
And 15% in mixed investment grade bonds.
25% in Value stocks.
30% in income stocks.
15% in high flyers.
I don’t win as much, and I don’t lose as much as the SP500. It’s a very defensive position.
Either he got what he wanted all along, or this is his exit ramp.
I think he got his way. Snow cones anyone?
I think he got his way. Snow cones anyone?
“about-face”
Not.
Art of the Deal. He wrote the book.
I’m skeptical.
First, Mark Rutte/General Secretary of NATO has zero to do with any kind of territorial purchase.
Second, if this is some kind of basing/deployment? It hardly required any of this nonsense. The US *used to* have a lot of installations in Greenland. Less now because they were expensive - and emerging technology, costs, etc - led to downsizing. No rational person should believe any sort of “agreement” (much less strongarming, “art of the deal”, or any other nonsense) was necessary to reverse course.
But whatever... However it happened, whatever “face saving” semantics are necessary.
I’m just glad it ended up at this point.
It was stupid from the start, it remains stupid, and if the end result is backing off wild and crazy BS? Best for everyone.
People still don’t understand how Trump operates. This is all part of a script to show that he is making concessions. He was never going to invade. It was an imaginary threat. By calling of a(n imaginary) threat he expects real concessions from Denmark and the EU. That’s Art of the Deal 101. Tariffs are a little different because that threat is real. But whatever works.
Cruise lines will be offering Greenland iceberg routes. And perhaps a winter/summer tourist resort...why not?
You don’t really keep up with current events, do you.
Uninformed?
I suppose - as a mere taxpaying citizen, even one who has studied a lot of history, even one that long ago took advantage of ROTC to pay for more education - and put in his time, even one that above all else: Appreciates what Reagan called the Shining City on a Hill but understands what went into creating it and higher moral callings that sustain it - BUT SURE.... is not privy to the direct input of intelligence agencies, diplomats, et al.
However, the day I line up behind ANY single individual, the day I stop using my own brain, my own earned knowledge, my own principles? That’s the day I stop being a REAL American.
I believe in the Constitution. I believe that the best of America - and the reason She has been blessed for 2.5 centuries - is because whatever failings? The true meaning and value of the USA is a higher morality. A higher principle.
Might makes right is NOT it. It’s regressive, backwards fealty to potentates and tyrants and I will NOT desecrate my principles because the “ends justifies the means”.
You do you. But if your patriotism is reduced to believing a singular leader is always right? If your - I presume conservatism since we are here - abandons the principles of our republic and the role of a congress (and judicial system) should be tossed aside because a POTUS says and tweets things you like?
You are NOT a true American. You are just another lackey, lining up behind a singular “dear leader”. No different than the Obots or other mindless zombies in too many histories to count, just wearing a different team jersey.
You do you.
I will continue to make my own judgments — and when my country attempts to threaten another to acquire territory because, of course, it is easily strong enough to do so? I will object.
I will object because I believe it is inherently unAmerican.
We sure know who the Democrat trolls are on this thread, lol.
By now we should know this is how Trump negotiates. The stock market reacts in the short term as it did yesterday and today. I have been buying on his negative comments in the past when the market reacts negatively. Mad at myself for not buying more today.
.......”My bond funds are having a party.”
Apparently mine are too. Recent call to my daughter interrupted by her broker who has a lot of her money and mine invested in them
