MEMORIAL OF SAINT FRANCIS OF ASSISI LUKE 10:25-37 Friends, our Gospel today is one of the best-known of Jesus’ parables, the story of the Good Samaritan. Every story, parable, illustration, and exhortation is, at the end of the day, a picture of the Lord. In one of the great windows of Chartres Cathedral there is an intertwining of two stories, the account of the fall of mankind and the parable of the Good Samaritan. This reflects a connection that was made by the Church Fathers. The Good Samaritan is a symbol of Jesus himself, in his role as Savior of...

His secret girlfriend has lots of secret wealth. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s longtime mistress has an estimated net worth of $100 million in “shadow wealth,” including swanky apartments and a yacht, despite her modest background, a trove of newly leaked documents reveal. Svetlana Krivonogikh, 46, has been romantically linked with the Russian strongman since he was still deputy mayor of her hometown of St. Petersburg, and reportedly has a daughter with him. But Krivonogikh — who grew up in a communal apartment — and other Putin cronies have been enriched through shell companies in the Virgin Islands and elsewhere, the...

A Virginia commonwealth's attorney backed by left-wing billionaire George Soros tanked an effort to recall a Democratic school board member who prevented students from returning to classrooms. The Open Fairfax County Public Schools Coalition, a parents' group, in July reached the signature threshold to recall Elaine Tholen, a school board member who refused to reopen schools during the coronavirus pandemic. James Hingeley, the court-appointed attorney assigned to represent them in the case, dismissed Open Fairfax County Public Schools' petition on Friday. Hingeley, a Democrat who campaigned alongside Tholen in 2019, received $5,000 that year from the Soros-funded Justice and Safety...

A 51-page legal statement prepared by the India Bar Association (IBA) attacked WHO Chief Scientist of India Soumya Swaminathan with 71 counts describing Swaminatan’s evaluation discouraging ivermectin to treat COVID-19 as “extremely unreasonable” and “having another purpose.” The Association called to invoke articles 302, 304 (paragraph 2), and 88 of the Indian Penal Code regarding murder and other crimes to punish Swaminathan. If Swaminatan is convicted, she may face the death penalty or life imprisonment. Ivermectin was first developed as a veterinary drug in the 1970s, however since 1988 it has been prescribed for humans to combat various parasitic infections....

WELLINGTON, New Zealand — New Zealand’s government acknowledged Monday what most other countries did long ago: It can no longer completely get rid of the coronavirus. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced a cautious plan to ease lockdown restrictions in Auckland, despite an outbreak there that continues to simmer. Since early in the pandemic, New Zealand had pursued an unusual zero-tolerance approach to the virus through strict lockdowns and aggressive contact tracing. Until recently, that elimination strategy had worked remarkably well for the country of 5 million, which has reported just 27 virus deaths.

Americans’ vaccination status against Covid-19 is likely to influence how they spend the holidays this year, as a new Harris poll finds that vaccinated Americans are broadly hesitant of spending time with unvaccinated family members and friends—including at holiday gatherings. he poll, conducted from September 17 to September 19 among 2,055 U.S. adults, including 1,454 vaccinated ones, found 50% of vaccinated respondents are either “extremely” or “considerably” hesitant to spend the holidays with unvaccinated family members or friends. Only 38% said they were not hesitant about making holiday plans with the unvaccinated, while 12% said it’s a non-issue because all...

A Virginia prosecutor backed by billionaire George Soros is facing heat over her handling of domestic violence cases after an accused wife-beater out on bond murdered his wife with a hammer. Authorities will charge Peter Lollobrigido for the brutal murder of his wife Regina Redman-Lollobrigido, who died in a hospital Sunday following a Sept. 19 assault. Lollobrigido was arrested on domestic assault charges in July, but released a week later on just $5,000 bond. Local critics fear his quick release is a tragic example of Loudoun County commonwealth's attorney Buta Biberaj's (D.) defendant-friendly approach. Biberaj is one of several progressive...

Seinfeld is making waves again because of its arrival on the Netflix streaming platform. The classic ’90s show has spent some time in limbo after being a fixture on Hulu for a few years, but now fans can watch the show about nothing in all its glory.Seinfeld was easily my favorite show as a kid, and while it may have pushed some boundaries as to what topics were suitable for prime time television, it was widely lauded for the clever storylines that often took the mundane and made it funny. One episode, for example, involves the cast waiting for a...

While reading a story about a new COVID-19 variant called R-1, blamed for 53 cases in California, I came across a line that needs to be corrected. “The R.1 variant proves that mutations will continue to take place. The most effective way to stop these mutations from happening is to get vaccinated.” You will hear statements like this about vaccines and mutations from the president on down. Everyone needs to be able to combat this idea.First, viruses mutate when they face evolutionary pressure. Obstacles to the virus entering the cells of a host’s body to make copies of itself, also...

Andrew Yang announced on Monday that he changed his voter registration from "Democrat" to "Independent," calling the move a "strangely emotional experience." What he's saying: While Yang said he has identified as a Democrat for years and has "dozens of friends and confidantes who are entrenched in the Democratic Party," he is "confident that no longer being a Democrat is the right thing." "My goal is to do as much as I can to advance our society. There are phenomenal public servants doing great work every day — but our system is stuck. It is stuck in part because polarization...

The Supreme Court term, which begins Monday, will be the culmination of five decades of efforts by conservatives to seize control of the court.... This will be the first full term with five staunch conservatives: Clarence Thomas, Samuel A. Alito Jr., Neil M. Gorsuch, Brett M. Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett.... The court’s most watched case — Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, to be argued on Dec. 1 — could dismantle principles of abortion rights set in 1973... Another area the court will reopen for consideration is gun rights. From 1791, when the 2nd Amendment was ratified, until 2008,...

Big Pharma is celebrating. Merck has released "phenomenal" test results for its experimental pill for treating COVID. The drug is said to greatly reduce the risk of hospitalization and death from the Wuhan virus. In this regard, Merck has beaten Pfizer, which is also deep in developing a medicine to treat COVID. And to be perfectly clear, both Merck and Pfizer drugs are not intended to prevent COVID. They treat it. And since the Merck drug is said to be significantly different from Pfizer's, it means, according to many experts, there is a strong likelihood of creating a cocktail of...

The highest paid bureaucrat in the entire federal government went on Face the Nation yesterday and let his mask slip. He might as well have put on a Grinch costume when he responded to a question from host Margaret Brennan on whether or not people could gather for Christmas this year and answered that it is too early to tell: Fauci wasn't questioned about why wealthy and sophisticated countries like Norway and Japan are returning to normal life, joining Sweden, which has never engaged in the historically unprecedented move of quarantining healthy people. Instead, Fauci wants to focus on "cases"...

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said during a CBS News interview on Sunday that the problem with Democrats’ $3.5 trillion social spending bill is that people keeping talking about how expensive it is. “The head of your caucus, the progressive caucus, was on another network this morning and Rep. Jayapal said $1.5 trillion is just too small,” host Margaret Brennan said. “That’s the number that Senate moderates, Joe Manchin in particular, want to get down to. President Biden, according to our reporting from Ed O’Keefe, our correspondent, says you’re going to have to settle for about $2 trillion. Is that an...
