Andrew Yang announced on Monday that he changed his voter registration from "Democrat" to "Independent," calling the move a "strangely emotional experience."
What he's saying: While Yang said he has identified as a Democrat for years and has "dozens of friends and confidantes who are entrenched in the Democratic Party," he is "confident that no longer being a Democrat is the right thing."
"My goal is to do as much as I can to advance our society. There are phenomenal public servants doing great work every day — but our system is stuck. It is stuck in part because polarization is getting worse than ever," Yang said. He said he has always been at odds with the Democratic Party: "I’m not very ideological. I’m practical. Making partisan arguments — particularly expressing what I often see as performative sentiment — is sometimes uncomfortable for me." "I’m actually more comfortable trying to fix the system than being a part of it." The big picture: Yang's announcement comes a day before his book, "Forward: Notes on the Future of Our Democracy," is set to be released.
According to its publisher, Crown, the book will introduce “us to the various ‘priests of the decline’ of America, including politicians whose incentives have become divorced from the people they supposedly serve.” Between the lines: Politico reported earlier this month that Yang will be launching a third party this month.
NY must not have a “Sore Loser” law.
I really don’t like him at all. Not being anti-Asian. I think he is self-serving opportunist who sees what he thinks is a better deal for virtue signaling his independence.
He is dangerous and hopefully will be knocked out of the race quickly.
Yang is terrified of being canceled—our politics are turning into North Korea.
When the Democrats just aren’t communist enough...
There really is a bunch of weird stuff going on. The GOP will be increasingly taken over by MAGA, while the Dems big-money operation is increasingly challenged by the far left. I’m hoping the far left takes over the Dem party completely or splits off. I’ve been waiting for the Democratic Socialists to start fielding candidates in very blue areas, but it’s just too early.
Maybe when Biden and the DNC get the s*** kicked out of them in 2022, you’ll see more people willing to split.
This guy has always seemed like a grifter self-promoter to me.
The sore loser party
Yank their chain, Yang!
He’s a lefty operative.
Beware.
Well the “book deal” speaks volumes. You can’t write a book overnight. He should have come out with his thoughts long ago.

Yes. The part of the article that I did read was dripping with fear by Yang. Everyone is so afraid of the lefties, even those who don’t want to be associated with them anymore. They can’t make a getaway without bowing down and pleading for mercy.

I don’t like his ideas, but I had a different impression of him. He always seemed willing to support unique ideas and stick to them. His basic universal income concept is a terrible one, and now it almost seem pervasive among leftists, because it helps crash capitalism, but he was on the leading edge of it.
The new “You been here 4 hour party”
Yeah but he should join the communist party
Unless the fraud thing is handled, this is wishful thinking.
Democrat, Andrew Yang jumps ship and leaves the Failing Democrat Party and becomes a “Independent”. Democrat, Senators Sinema & Manchin should also jump ship and join the Republican Party immediately and so should any Moderate House Democrats do the same!!! Biden, Harris, Schumer & Pelosi have already killed the Democrat, Socialist, Communist Party!!!
Yang is a clown
He is not serious and simply runs to gain publicity
So he is now a Communist posing as an Independent.
That'll shake the DP to its foundations. /sarc
