A Setback for the Catholic LeftIts reaction to the Vatican’s ban on blessings for gay couples has been revealing.Pope Francis has never been known to hold a strict view of documents from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF). In 2016, a reporter asked him about a 2003 CDF document prohibiting recognition of gay civil unions. He replied, “I do not remember that document well.” In fact, as archbishop of Buenos Aires, he had disregarded the document’s directive and endorsed legislation in favor of gay civil unions.Another indication of his casual view of CDF documents was his advice...

The deal is an effort by Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern to capitalize on an expected increase in the flow of trade as the three countries rebound from the pandemic. Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern announced plans on Sunday to combine in a $29 billion deal that would create the first railroad network connecting the United States, Mexico and Canada. It is an effort to capitalize on the trade flows expected to run through the three countries after President Donald J. Trump signed the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement into law last year. It’s also a bet on the strength...

A restaurant owner in Michigan was arrested on March 19 for defying state CCP virus pandemic restrictions and ignoring a court order, according to the state attorney general. Marlena Pavlos-Hackney, owner of Marlena’s Bistro and Pizzeria in Holland, Michigan, was taken into custody following a traffic stop for failing to comply in a civil case filed by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. State officials said Pavlos-Hackney kept her restaurant open for indoor dining when it was banned, didn’t comply with capacity limits, and didn’t enforce any mask-wearing rules amid the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus pandemic. The...

BOSTON (CBS) — Boston is paying a special tribute to actor Leonard Nimoy, who would have turned 90 years old later this month. Mayor Marty Walsh is declaring his birthday, March 26, to be "Leonard Nimoy Day" in the city. Nimoy, who died in 2015, was born in Boston's West End neighborhood. He'll always be remembered for portraying the logical, pointy-eared Spock in "Star Trek," and embracing the Vulcan character's "live long and prosper" motto. Walsh wrote that Nimoy "brought honor upon his native city" with his accomplishments and "gave the immigrant, the refugee, and the oppressed, a hero for...

Two quarreling city bus drivers locked horns and refused to move their massive rigs in a bizarre stand-off on a narrow two-way avenue in Brooklyn, a video released Friday shows. The B35 buses, each facing the opposite direction, stopped a few feet from each other on 13th Ave. near 39th St. in Borough Park about 6:45 p.m. Thursday, but both drivers refused to budge, sparking some gridlock in the area, the video shows. “Back it up! Back it up!” one of the MTA drivers screamed to the other. “How am I going to back up? Why can’t you back up?”...

The mother of an 11-year-old Brooklyn girl killed in a crash three days before Christmas during a state trooper’s pursuit has filed papers to sue the state, according to court records obtained by the Daily News. Lawyers for Michelle Surrency allege state Trooper Christopher Baldner, 40, killed young Monica Goods on Dec. 22 by rear-ending an SUV driven by the child’s dad, Tristin Goods. The police report, also obtained by The News, confirms Baldner’s vehicle slammed into Goods’ 2017 Dodge Journey, forcing it into a guardrail where it flipped and rolled. Monica was ejected and died at the scene. Baldner,...

At the 5:40 mark in this 11-min video Merle’s son Marty talks about his late grandmother (Merle’s mother) then sings Merle’s hit “Mama’s Hungry Eyes”. The song begins at about the 7:30 mark and continues to the end of the 11 minute video. The entire video is excellent. The 3 sons tell interesting, often funny, stories about their dad. After that, check out the 2nd link (below). It’s to the same show. But in this clip brothers Ben and Noel sing several of Merle’s songs. All 3 of the sons are very talented. Marty, the oldest, especially looks and sounds like...

Everyone has seen the heated exchange between Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, during a Senate hearing last Thursday. The disagreement centered around Dr. Fauci’s advice that people already vaccinated continue to wear masks, due to the risks from Covid-19 variants. Sen. Paul had no patience with a feckless, bloviating and press-hungry Fauci who has lied abou mask wearing and everything else.. But what was missing was a key question – Dr. Fauci, how responsible are you for helping create this pandemic in the first place? Sen. Joni...

The raids on the Yemeni capital, Sana’a, targeted military camps, as well as Houthi rebel facilities near the city’s airport and in its suburbs, residents and rebel-run Al-Masirah TV said. A separate strike hit a rebel target in the port province of Hodeidah. The Iran-backed Houthis attacked a Saudi Aramco oil refinery in Riyadh on Friday with six bomb-laden drones. The assault caused a fire that was later controlled with no impact on oil supplies or derivatives, state-run media said. No casualties were reported.

Yemen’s Houthi rebels on Saturday broke their silence on the cause of a fire that tore through a detention centre for migrants earlier this month, killing at least 45 people, mostly Ethiopian migrants. The rebels acknowledged that guards fired three teargas canisters into a crowded hangar in the capital, Sana’a, trying to end a protest by the migrants. A statement by the rebel-run Interior Ministry said at least 11 men from the security forces were detained over the incident, along with a number of senior officials who would be tried before court. About 900 migrants, most of them from Ethiopia,...

'Borrowers deserve a simplified and fair path to relief...' The Department of Education took new steps last week to provide certain federal student loan borrowers complete debt relief. The announcement came as Democrats explore how to cancel student debt. More than 40 million Americans have federal student loan debt totaling more than $1.7 trillion. Debt payments are currently suspended due to financial hardship caused by the coronavirus pandemic. What is the DoE's plan? Perhaps preparing to take even larger steps in the near future, the Education Department said student loan borrowers can apply for full debt cancellation if their college...

“But emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men” (Philippians 2:7). As part of His humble descent from Heaven to earth, Jesus set aside the exercise of His divine privileges. The next step in Jesus’ pattern of humility as He came to earth and lived among mankind was His emptying of Himself. But Scripture is clear that while on earth our Lord claimed to be God: “He who has seen Me has seen the Father” (John 14:9). At no time did He stop being God. The Greek word for “emptied” gives us...

Dear Neighbor: For almost a year, I and other members of the Pennsylvania Congressional delegation have been asking the Wolf Administration for answers as to why residents in long-term care facilities and nursing homes were not protected against COVID-19. As the world has grappled with the virus, we quickly learned that senior citizens and those with underlying health conditions were at the highest risk for serious health impacts, including death. Over 50 percent of Pennsylvania’s deaths attributable to COVID-19 have been residents of senior living or long-term care facilities. Sadly, this trend is true across the nation. The COVID Tracking...

Rep.Linda Sanchez (D-CA) defended the Biden Administration policy of barring the media from seeing the insides of the border facilities where unaccompanied children are being held, claiming "it is inherently unfair to compare what's going on now with what went on during the Trump years." "Look, due to Trump's racist policies the number of children he had to deal with was small," Sanchez pointed out. "ICE officials actively prevented border crossings. Trump told people they should pursue legal immigration rather than try to sneak in. So, of course there was no crisis, no overcrowding." "Things are different under President Biden,"...
