January 28, 1820 was the scheduled hanging-date for Stephen Boorn in Vermont, who was spared by the stroke of luck in one of the Republic’s seminal wrongful conviction cases. For all its vintage, it has a disturbingly current feel. Stephen Boorn and his brother Jesse were farmers in Manchester living with their possibly feebleminded brother-in-law Russell Colvin when Colvin suddenly vanished in May 1812. Vanishing unexplained for weeks on end was actually an established behavior for this peculiar gentleman, so it was only gradually that suspicion of foul play accumulated. There was some bad blood known to exist between Colvin...

Prelates, priests, pastors sign on as salesmen for abortion-tainted serum Britain is conscripting clergy to promote abortion-tainted COVID-19 vaccines, as the government forces a counter-narrative to combat voices raising ethical and safety concerns about the jab. Catholic priests, instructed by bishops, are publishing notes from the government's Coronavirus Places of Worship Task Force (CPWTF) on parish websites and newsletters, citing "strong encouragement from the government to counteract" vaccine dissent in churches. "There should be explicit encouragement of community members to take up the offer of vaccines whenever it is offered to an individual," the government's propaganda to churches urges, pushing...

Left-wing activists are forming a database to profile and target organizations that hire former Trump White House officials in the hopes of making these persons unemployable and unable to feed their families. “Government service does not guarantee private employment. In fact, it should not. And American business should not reward the behavior of the Trump administration with the well-oiled revolving door that traditionally spins at moments of transition,” the Campaign Against Corporate Complicity said in a statement announcing their existence. This new group intends to trigger digital lynch mobs so they harass companies that hire former Trump administration officials. The...

'This is no way to make law,' left-wing NYT board writes The left-wing New York Times editorial board supported President Biden's campaign and celebrated his victory, but mild criticism of his spate of executive actions drew a rebuke from Biden's communications director Thursday morning. Chummily headlined, "Ease up on the Executive Actions, Joe," the editorial board admonished him against relying too heavily on executive orders. Biden has signed dozens since taking office last week, addressing issues from climate change to coronavirus to overseas abortions to cancelling the Keystone Pipeline. "But this is no way to make law," the board wrote....

Newly-confirmed Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen received around $810,000 in speaking fees from the hedge fund that bailed out one of the primary losers in the recent Gamestop frenzy. Yellen's financial disclosure shows her making $337,500 for multiple days in Oct. of 2020 from Citadel. She similarly banked $292,500 in October of 2019 and $180,000 in December of that year.

Why did Brennan leave out communists? We have every reason to suspect Schiff's motives and the law enforcement legitimacy of his proposal. Combined with Brennan's theories – this sort of thinking comprises the dark fantasies of people seeking to destroy liberty in the name of defending the Constitution. The Biden administration, its allies, advocates, and television sock puppets are advancing a Constitution-threatening series of initiatives disguised as "safety and security" measures. This, combined with the Big Social Media-backed suppression of free speech, and not-so-subtle "shaming," are all aimed at crushing opposition and stopping people from questioning decisions, motives and authority....

Equity and equal opportunity are fundamentally incompatible.Back in 2019, as the race for the Democratic nomination for president was shaping up, the field was heralded as the most diverse in history. But when the dust settled, it was the old white guy who had once palled around with segregationists who came away with the prize. The Joe Biden administration is making up for his paleness now by making race and identity the grand unifying principle of its approach to everything. If they succeed, the results will be a disaster. The administration has identified four emergencies facing the nation that it...

New York state health officials underreported COVID-19-related nursing home deaths by as much as 50 percent in some places, according to a report released by Attorney General Letitia James. The 76-page report (pdf) released Thursday follows an investigation by James’ office into allegations of the neglect of patients and other conduct that allegedly led to the deaths of nursing home residents and employees. “As the pandemic and our investigations continue, it is imperative that we understand why the residents of nursing homes in New York unnecessarily suffered at such an alarming rate,” James said in a news release. “While we...

Early planetary migration in the solar system has been long established, and there are myriad theories that have been put forward to explain where the planets were coming from. Theories such as the Grand Tack Hypothesis an the Nice Model show how important that migration is to the current state of our solar system. Now, a team from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has come up with a novel way of trying to understand planetary migration patterns: by looking at meteorite compositions. The researchers, led by postdoc Jan Render, had three key realizations. First, that almost all the meteorites that...

Proposals to defund law enforcement fail the cost-benefit test and will likely increase avoidable deaths while lowering the overall standard of living. In Philadelphia in January, 25-year old Milan Loncar — a recent Temple University graduate and husband to be — was walking his dog when he was brutally gunned down in the streets of Philadelphia, the victim of an armed robbery that he did not resist. He died while still holding the leash of his rescue dog. The gunman had a violent criminal history and should have been in jail the night of Loncar’s murder, but he had been released...

DES MOINES — Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds said Tuesday that she wants to require that all fuel sold in the state to contain either ethanol or biodiesel. Reynolds’ comments came at the Iowa Iowa Renewable Fuels virtual summit Tuesday where she proposed legislation mandating fuel sold in the state contain at least 10% ethanol and 11% biodiesel. “I am excited to advance policies that will grow the biofuels and ag industry,” Reynolds said. “As a leader in biofuels production, that means making biofuels the clear choice for Iowa drivers by implementing an E10 and B11 fuel standard at Iowa pumps.”...

Lawmakers introduce legislation to massively expand mail-in voting. Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) on Thursday introduced legislation to allow all registered voters to have the option to vote from home. The Vote at Home Act would require all registered voters to be sent mail-in ballots prior to Election Day, guarantee that voters had the option to either vote by mail or vote in person at the polls, and enact automatic voter registration for all citizens with driver’s licenses or permits. It would be a significant expansion of mail-in voting.

EY CEO Carmine Di Sibio has a message for President Biden: Tread carefully when it comes to raising corporate taxes. “Any raise in the corporate tax would be a threat to U.S. business,” Di Sibio told Yahoo Finance Live. “I do think it would make the U.S. less competitive, and I think the tax rate elsewhere would be more beneficial.” Biden has promised to roll back former President Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, which Di Sibio said were “very important for Corporate America.” Trump slashed the U.S. corporate tax rate from 35% to 21%. Biden has proposed increasing that rate to...
