It had been advanced by The Washington Post and picked up by CNN and this Wednesday, before the Chamber, the acting chief of the Metropolitan Police , Robert J. Contee, confirmed that two agents took their own lives after being part of the police operation that he faced to the assault on the Capitol on January 6 perpetrated by a large group of supporters of Donald Trump. The entry by force of some protesters resulted in five direct victims due to injuries sustained during the assault. Now that figure rises to sevenafter the confirmation of these two suicides. The death of one of them was announced by the family a few days ago.
"We honor the service and sacrifices of Officers Brian Sicknick, Howard Liebengood, and Jeffery Smith , and we offer our condolences to all grieving families," he told the House Appropriations Committee. According to the information provided, Jeffrey Smith, a DC police officer, and Capitol Police Officer Howard Liebengood, "took their own lives as a result of that battle . "

Years from now, someone will probably die of leukemia and push the death toll of The Great Battle just that much higher.

My guess is that they were threatened with prosecution for allowing protesters in and offered plea deals in exchange for perjuring themselves to testify against certain protesters they had nothing to do with.

any details of the suicide?? What about the officers who opened the doors and welcome some of the demonstrators into the hall between the rope barriers, the one who was with the group in the house chamber?? How about the one shooting - who is he and what is his story??
Where is the info on those demonstrators arrested - name, address, sex, age, voter registration, etc.??? I know we have folks on FR who will do a good background investigation on each. And I would like to see it.

Also, these guys are not like street cops. They have little to do with street like crime — nor — do they have the ‘’fortitude’’ that comes with that kind of POLICING experience.

Also. Flame away if you want, but suicidal cowards that take their own lives are NOT heroes. They certainly deserve no respect as “brave law enforcement officers” who just happened to be on duty on 01/06/21.
These officers may well be patriots who refused to fire on the unarmed protestors.
They may well realize their careers are over; that the only way to sustain their families is to die before they are accused by the Capitol Hill mob.
