New York state health officials underreported COVID-19-related nursing home deaths by as much as 50 percent in some places, according to a report released by Attorney General Letitia James.
The 76-page report (pdf) released Thursday follows an investigation by James’ office into allegations of the neglect of patients and other conduct that allegedly led to the deaths of nursing home residents and employees.
“As the pandemic and our investigations continue, it is imperative that we understand why the residents of nursing homes in New York unnecessarily suffered at such an alarming rate,” James said in a news release. “While we cannot bring back the individuals we lost to this crisis, this report seeks to offer transparency that the public deserves and to spur increased action to protect our most vulnerable residents.”
Deaths in nursing homes have been a flashpoint for criticism against Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, who has repeatedly pushed back against assertions he played any role in the nursing home deaths. The report is sure to trigger more debate on Cuomo’s CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus policies and how he handled nursing homes during the pandemic.
James, a Democrat, said that Cuomo’s policy of ordering recovering nursing home patients to be sent to nursing homes to free up hospital bed space may have led to more deaths. Cuomo—who has touted his administration’s response to the pandemic—has often rejected the notion that this specific policy has led to an increase in deaths.
Last year, the Cuomo administration flatly denied the allegations: “Admission policies to nursing homes were not a significant factor in nursing home fatalities. And data suggests that nursing home quality is not a factor in mortality from COVID.”

Today I saw a clip of Gov. Cuomo stating that the nursing home patients who died from COVID died in the hospital. So, the blame should be on the hospitals for not doing a better job of caring for them and saving them.
Pretty amazing—he takes no blame whatsoever for causing a situation of increased exposure among the trapped and vulnerable nursing home residents.

Rep. Elise Stefanik is demanding that New York Attorney General Letitia James and the U.S. Justice Department subpoena Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s administration for documentation and communications regarding his handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
Stefanik’s remarks come after a report by James was released on Thursday that revealed the state’s COVID-19 death count in nursing home facilities was underreported by as much as 50%. The massive undercount in the report that detailed the findings of an investigation into allegations of patient neglect and other “concerning conduct” by nursing home facilities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Stefanik said the revelations detailed in the report are indicative of a “massive corruption and coverup scandal at the highest level of New York State Government, implicating the Governor, Secretary of the Governor, the New York State Health Commissioner, and the Governor’s staff.”
The laden accusations against New York brass are the culmination of months of backlash and probing after Cuomo’s directive in March requiring nursing homes in the Empire State to accept patients who had or were suspected of having COVID-19. The decision created an onslaught of COVID-19 cases that infected thousands of elderly patients and resulted in hundreds of deaths among the state’s most vulnerable population.
The New York State Department of Health reported that as of Jan. 27, there were 5,957 confirmed deaths due to the coronavirus in nursing homes and an additional 2,783 presumed deaths. In assisted care facilities, there were 160 deaths and 52 presumed deaths.
“As a fellow New Yorker, I want to publicly thank the effective and tireless advocates who have humbly served as the voice of their lost loved ones and have faced inexcusable treatment from the Governor and his entire team, who we know have orchestrated a criminal coverup and have blood on their hands,” Stefanik said.
Cuomo has defended the nursing home policy as in-line with guidance from the Trump administration at the time. The governor was silent Thursday following the new AG report and did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment.
Cuomo was involved in massive misinformation on social media. People died. Cancel all his social media accounts.

I am sure Letitia will start issuing indictments right after she finishes investigating Trumps tax returns.
They are reclassifying heart attacks, flu and other deaths as Covid-19 to make Cuomo look bad. /s
What’s insane is that he thinks he can say stuff like that without being laughed at for the rest of his life.
Medicaid spending is likely a big reason behind the death toll.
It would be interesting to see if the mortality rate for dual-eligible seniors was/is higher than it was/is for others.
Also, were more residents early on dying in their residential care facilities than in the hospital? If so, I’m betting cost control was a big reason for that.
Whole lot of folks in those N.Y. nursing homes were on gub mint assistance.
You introduce folks with the China death virus in to those old folks homes and those there with lung problems and other diseases and they die which lets gub mint off the hook to provide for them all and nursing homes in N.Y. are not cheap.

If she can force Cuomo into stepping down or being asked to step down, she can become the Governor of NY or whatever in NY.
Last but not least, there a few democRats, who still have a small but good side/conscience. She may be one, or a lot of rat voters don’t like killing grannie and are telling her to take Cuomo out at her level before they do.
In California, we are seeing a lot of pressure being put on our worthless and equally dangerous governor, Fide Che Gruesome re a potential recall. Also, there is a ton of outspoken disgust re what he has done to the working class including a lot of women and small business owners of both sexes and political parties. He is a dangerous left wing killer like Cuomo.
And he BRAGGED about himself!!! And got an EMMY!!
