Congress will convene for a joint session Wednesday to tally electoral votes from the 2020 presidential election in one of the last formalities before President-elect Joe Biden takes office on Jan. 20. But the normally routine proceedings promise to be a tense affair this time around as dozens of GOP lawmakers have vowed to challenge the election results. The Electoral College voted last month 306 to 232 to elect Biden as the 46th president of the United States, but Congress needs to record those votes before he can be sworn in on Inauguration Day.

More and more, the answer is looking like "nothing and nobody." Here's a question: since the U.S. Constitution provides for the legislatures of each respective state to choose their representing electors to the Electoral College, with the U.S. as a constitutional republic, not a democracy...what happens when, internal to the state, that process breaks down? Whether by state executives violating their own state law to change the conduct of the election to countermand the legislatively approved laws or by those same legislatively approved laws being usurped by judges, the final result is an inaccurate count of the votes cast. Here's...

Iran requested the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) to issue a “red notice” for the arrest of President Trump and 47 other U.S. officials on Tuesday due to the killing of top Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani last year. Iranian judiciary spokesman Gholamhossein Esmaili labeled Trump as “the main culprit” in Soleimani’s killing, which he called a “terrorist crime,” the semiofficial Mehr News Agency reported, according to NPR. Other U.S. officials included in the request are U.S. military commanders and officials in the region and at the Pentagon. The request represented the second time Iran has asked for assistance in arresting...

Is it too late to save our republic? My generation believed in the United States. We believed in its respect for the individual, in its Constitution, in its status as the only benign superpower in history. In other words, we believed in American exceptionalism. "Traditional American values are worthy of a passionate defense," said author and TV commentator Monica Crowley. Referring to these values as "the American project," Charles Murray, author of Coming Apart, defined it as the continuing effort "to demonstrate that human beings can be left free as individuals and families to live their lives as they see...

It’s just the flu, bro. Half of the GOP and all of the Dems are in favor of continuing modified voting procedures as a result of COVID. COVID will be with us for years and the rules around COVID will be with us even longer. This will lead to so many lost GOP elections. We must call out these fearbro GOP members, who have many supporters right here on Freerepublic. Freerepublic is the GOP base so calling out fearbros here on Freerepublic is often helpful. - https://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/rep-dan-crenshaw-says-houston-tx-businesses-should-not-comply-with-new-coronavirus-restrictions Good to see Congressman Dan Crenshaw is encouraging Houston businesses to not comply...

While the bellwether day-and-date HBO Max release of Wonder Woman 1984 left audiences divided, there can be no question that the sequel’s storyline reinforced writer/director Patty Jenkins’s vision for Gal Gadot’s version of the DC Comics heroine, reflecting ideals of compassion and mercy with pathological nuance. However, shockingly vicious imagery from an early concept photo displayed by the character’s first directorial steward, Zack Snyder, presents a stark contrast to her current ethos of unbridled optimism.

With control for the United States Senate up for grabs, veteran GOP strategist Karl Rove, a Fox News contributor, joined Fox News Radio's "Guy Benson Show" where he laid out the pathways for incumbent Republican Senators Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue. -snip- Rove predicts that Republicans are slightly favored to win both runoffs, and that election day turnout for Republicans is key, saying, "I think the Republicans are likely to hold on to it narrowly because I think the turnout is going to be higher than a million, and at a million if the Republicans are getting the 62 percent...

Republican Texas Senator John Cornyn says he won’t object to certifying President-elect Joe Biden’s electoral votes on Wednesday. -snip- “Every lawsuit filed by the Trump campaign has failed to change the outcome,” Cornyn writes. “And multiple states have conducted recounts to confirm the results — in Georgia, three times. So, unless substantial, new evidence is present during the challenges to each state’s ballots, I will not object to the certification of that state’s election results based on unproven allegations.”

“A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth. He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers; Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord" (Proverbs 6:12-14).

MINNEAPOLIS—Overseeing sober living homes for newly recovering drug addicts is difficult in the best of times. But the endless shutdowns have created conditions that are challenging for healthy people, let alone those who are fresh out of rehab, vulnerable, and still reeling. Matt Royce, 35, oversees seven sober-living homes in Minneapolis. All of his houses, each holding between 9 and 13 people, have been “pretty full the whole time.” No overdose deaths had occurred in his homes in almost three years, but last summer he lost two people, while another three were revived from overdoses with opioid-blocker Narcan. Depression has...
