The latter Middle Ages were a time of great political and cultural turmoil in the West. One of the greatest upheavals occurred within the Christian Church of that era. It was called the "Avignon Papacy." The Encyclopedia Britannica describes it this way: Distressed by political factionalism in Rome ... Pope Clement V moved the papal capital to Avignon (France). During this time, the Sacred College of Cardinals began to gain a stronger role in the government of the church. A vast reorganization and centralization of administrative offices and other agencies was effected[.] ... After Pope Gregory XI reestablished the papal...

Even as prominent Republicans, including Mitch McConnell, began to grudgingly acknowledge that Joe Biden will be the next president, a noisy grassroots movement devoted to keeping Donald Trump in office seemed to be edging closer to advocating seizing power in what would amount to a coup d’état. The day after a group run by a local Ohio tea party leader took out a full-page ad in the Washington Times calling on Trump to declare martial law and have the military oversee a redo of the presidential election using only paper ballots — a call echoed in a tweet by Gen....

Nature is determined to destroy humanity through flood, famine, fire, and pestilence, U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres declared Wednesday, prophesizing the time has come for us to repent and mend our ways through a great climate and economic reset. In an address at Columbia University in New York City, Guterres said the global climate has long been “reacting” to man-made changes, but emphasized there’s still time to prevent a total biodiversity collapse if we fall in behind the U.N. and its multiple agencies.

President Donald Trump promised to protect a voting system that is "under siege" in a pre-recorded speech alleging election fraud released by the White House on Wednesday. In the unannounced speech that dropped on Facebook late Wednesday afternoon, Trump outlined claims of fraud declaring the election "rigged." The president said he is not opposed to conceding to President-elect Joe Biden, "On top of everything else, we have a company that’s very suspect," Trump said. "It’s name is Dominion, with the turn of a dial or the change of a chip, you could press a button for Trump and the vote...

Lou Dobbs on Barr and Durham “For the attorney general of the United States to make that statement, he is either a liar or a fool, or both.” Dobbs suggested Barr could be “simply unprincipled” or “he may be, perhaps, compromised … But in no way can he honestly stand up before the American people and say that the FBI has with any integrity or intensity investigated voter fraud in this country and then say it did not amount to anything.”Longer version…“ AG William Barr is either a fool, a liar, or both”! Perhaps “Comprised” or is part of...

That wailing you hear involving Rahm Emanuel, President-elect Joe Biden and the left clinging to its ideological purity tests sounds like something out of a horror movie. But as Rahm seeks political resurrection at Biden's hands, here's the thing: Chicago has seen Rahm's movie before. Chicago remembers him as the mayor who sat on that Laquan McDonald police shooting video until after his reelection was safe. And I remember him running for reelection while his administration suppressed that video, as Rahm played his Barack Obama card as the former president's chief of staff. Rahm stood on the South Side with...

Those who choose to live on middle ground share certain characteristics. The characteristics of the two and a half tribes (Reuben, Gad and half of Manasseh) can be found today in those who refuse to pulverize their idols and die to the world. Their Hebrew names expose them. Reuben means, “A son who sees!” He was Jacob’s firstborn, but he lost his birthright because he was driven by lust. Jacob described his son Reuben as “…unstable as water, thou shalt not excel….” Reuben went into his father’s concubine, and Jacob, in his dying hour, said of him: “Then you defiled...

At times, you may find yourself asking, “Why am I so discouraged? Why do I have all these fears?” You must know that is always a Holy Spirit issue. Isaiah says that the Holy Spirit portions out peace and there can be no peace without righteousness. “The work of righteousness will be peace, and the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance forever. My people will dwell in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places” (Isaiah 32:17-18). When the Holy Spirit is poured out, peace is the result. And if that effect isn’t present — if there...

Ward got a sample of 100 ballots and a sample of 200 signatures from a judge in Arizona. An examination of the 100 ballots found that 1 for Trump was not counted and another for Trump was counted as being for Biden. That is an error rate of 2% which was larger than the margin of "victory" for Biden already. The result of the examination of the signatures for a signature match should come in today. Barnes is betting there will be more errors found. This will almost certainly trigger a full audit of all the ballots and the signatures...

In the first video below there is a scene, not exceedingly rare today, of a piano placed in an airport or shopping mall. A person approaches the piano and begins to play, meekly at first, but then displaying virtuoso talent. Soon a crowd assembles in appreciation of the remarkable gift before them, both the man and the music. Sadly, I have not noticed a similar appreciation expressed by Catholics at Sunday Mass, weddings, or other similar moments when virtuosity was displayed by the church organist. For example, a few years ago I was at a large Mass of the faithful...

"God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son" (Heb. 1:1-2). Man can’t discover God on his own; God must reveal Himself to man. Since the beginning of time, man has deceived himself by thinking he can discover God through various religions. But in reality, man lives in a box enclosed within the walls of time and space. God is outside the box, and man senses He's there but can't get to Him. Each new religion is but another...

WestExec, a consulting firm co-founded in 2017 by Joe Biden’s pick for secretary of state, Antony Blinken, scrubbed one of its services offering U.S. research universities the opportunity to garner funds from foreign donors, such as those in China. In July, the company listed “U.S. research universities” as a beneficiary of its services, assisting prominent colleges by “expanding foreign research collaboration, accepting foreign donations, and welcoming foreign students in key STEM programs” without violating any Department of Defense-sponsored research grants, the Washington Free Beacon reported.By August, however, the WestExec’s section detailing “Managing China-related Risk in an Era of Strategic Competition” was...
