In Alice Through the Looking-Glass, author Lewis Carroll created a sequel to Alice in Wonderland. Alice climbs through a mirror and enters a world beyond the one she can normally see. Everything there is reversed, just like a reflection in a mirror -- even logic itself. In this bizarre reality, running helps one remain stationary, while walking away actually brings one closer. In 2019, Harris County, Texas entered its own "looking glass," where logic and reason are similarly reversed. This new world sprang into existence as a result of a settlement in the federal class action case of ODonnell v....

Charles Pope Pass the Salt and Turn on the Lights – A Homily for the Fifth Sunday of the Year In the Gospel today the Lord describes metaphorically what a Christian is and what He expects of us. Note five things about what God says:I. The Definitiveness of His Proclamation– The text says, You are the Salt of the earth. … You are the light of the World. … But if salt goes flat it is good for nothing. … No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket. The Lord...

Perhaps the pressure is getting to him. On Sunday, Joe Biden snapped at a voter in New Hampshire, calling him (sic: her) a “lying, dog-faced pony soldier.” The dust-up came after the voter asked Biden, “How do you explain the performance in Iowa and why should the voters believe that you can win a national election?" "You ever been to a caucus?" Biden replied. After the voter said she indeed had attended a caucus, Biden shot back: "No you haven’t. You’re a lying dog-faced pony soldier." "You gotta be honest,” he continued. “I’m gonna be honest with you. It was...

A Good Reason for President Trump to be Angry On February 6, the Financial Times bannered a scoop under this headline: “Donald Trump ‘apoplectic’ in call with Boris Johnson over Huawei.” The argument was over the decision of the British prime minister to allow the Chinese-government-controlled tech manufacturer Huawei to participate in Britain’s next-generation cellular network, known worldwide as 5G. In other words, the United Kingdom has just made an enormous decision, full of consequences for not only the U.K., but also for the U.S. 5G, of course, is the new big thing in tech; it will accelerate the speed...

On Saturday, six Trump campaign volunteers in Jacksonville, Florida were working to register voters. At approximately 2:45 p.m., a golden-colored van attempted intentionally ran through their booths with the intention of mauling volunteers. Thankfully, no one was injured. After driving through the tent, knocking over tables and chairs, the man stopped, took a video and flipped the Republican volunteers off. The driver sped off but was later apprehended. Police arrested 27-year-old Gregory William Loel Timm. He was "charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a person over 65 years old, criminal mischief and driving without a license," News Jax 4 reported. Lt....

'It taught me that I was responsible for my own happiness. I didn't marry Barack for him to make me happy. No one can make me happy. . . . 'I was one of those wives who thought, "I'm taking you to marriage counseling so you can be fixed, Barack Obama." Because I was like, "I'm perfect." I was like, "Dr. X, please fix him"', she said, prompting the audience to laugh.

Here's hoping 2020 is the best year yet!! Now that he has been forever acquitted, President Trump should put the failed partisan impeachment attempt behind him, then concentrate on winning the 2020 election with wide coattails. Then bide his time as the cases against the various coup plotters wind their way through the justice system. Highest priority political items: Win the election, hold the senate, take back the house!! And then continue the work of making America great again: Build the wall, enforce the law, deport them all!! End DACA!! End sanctuary cities!! End anchor babies!! Continue cutting regulations, cutting...

Looking at the dysfunctional group of Democrat presidential candidates, Mike Bloomberg is planning, through strategically placed ads and a well-funded ground-game, to be the last man standing. His problem, though, is that he’s a bully, lacks charm and, as a recently unearthed video reveals, dislikes and disrespects the American people. American politicians used to pretend they liked the citizens whose votes they sought. Nowadays, though, Democrat politicians limit themselves to attacking their opponents; they also attack the American voters. The most famous example is Hillary’s "deplorables" statement:

Sen. Lindsey Graham said President Trump was within his rights to fire Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman from the National Security Council last week. "I think his reassignment was justified. I don't think he could be effective at the NSC," Graham said Sunday on CBS's Face the Nation. "As much as I support our military people telling the truth when asked — it's important they do — what have I learned in the last two years?"

The office of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) requested that Facebook and Twitter take down a video that edited together moments from President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address with a clip of her tearing a copy of the speech apart. Both of the social media companies denied her request, citing different reasons. The video, posted by Trump’s official Twitter account, interspersed the clip of Pelosi ripping the papers at the end of the speech with moments of emotion and standing ovations during the speech. “Powerful American stories ripped to shreds by Nancy Pelosi,” says a text placed at...

Iran has failed another attempt at launching a satellite into space. Iran attempted to launch a domestically-built "Zafar" satellite into space, but the rocket did not gain enough speed to reach orbit, according to reports. News of the failure broke on Sunday, two weeks after satellite imagery showed increased activity around Iran’s Imam Khomeini Space Center.

Pete Buttigieg isn’t going to win You may as well start on his political obituary once you’ve finished with Joe Biden’s Roger Kimball 8 February 2020 3:49 PM [Cut] As Joe Biden once said of his old (but then-future) boss B. Obama, the 38-year-old former Mayor of South Bend is bright, articulate, and cleans up well. But the idea — an idea that is assiduously circulated by his supporters — that he is ‘moderate’ is ridiculous. In fact, those scrambling for the perfect political epitaph for PB might consider ‘moderate’ in scare quotes. Remember, Mayor Peter is the openly gay...

An attempt by Iran to launch a satellite into orbit failed Sunday, the Iranian state television outlet Fars reported Sunday evening. A Simorgh or “Phoenix” rocket was used in the attempt to deploy the Zafar I communications satellite. The launch failed to deploy the satellite into orbit, however, Iranian television reported, due to low rocket speed. "It was launched with success and ... we have reached most our aims ... but the Zafar satellite did not reach orbit as planned," Fars reported. The Simorgh rocket had been launched from the Imam Khomeini Spaceport in Semnan province, about 145 miles southeast...

Utah lawmakers recently proposed four different state laws that would infringe upon the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, which is seemingly in violation with the text of the U.S. Constitution, something the lawmakers would know if they had bothered to read the document. In response, several hundred supporters of the Second Amendment rallied outside the State Capitol in Salt Lake City on Saturday. Firearm owners carried weapons and signs to show their support of the Second Amendment. The new bills would institute universal background checks, red-flag laws, and eliminate private gun transfers. The Daily Mail reported...
