Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) deleted a tweet from 2013 wishing her father a Happy Father’s Day, providing his name in the post. “Happy Father's Day to my aabo Nur Said, I am forever grateful to Allah for giving me the best father…” read the tweet, linking to an Instagram post, which had previously been deleted. Omar was previously married to a man named Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, and some are saying this may be proof of the union. "In Somalia, one’s name is normally a first name, the father’s name, and then the grandfather’s name," reports the Daily Caller. Shaikh...

Former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski frustrated House Judiciary Committee Democrats during a contentious hearing on Tuesday they had hoped would fuel support for President Trump’s impeachment but instead devolved into chaos. Democrats repeatedly tried and failed to get Lewandowski, a close ally of the president, to talk about his conversations with the president. The White House has asserted those conversations should remain private due to executive privilege, and Lewandowski stayed within those limits.

When I am 25, I would like to live in an apartment in a city, own a pet beagle and spend copious amounts of time in coffee shops and used book stores. By this time, I’d also like to be closer to my dream of running for public office. But, most importantly, by the time I’m 25, I hope that the climate crisis hasn’t killed me.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem (Old Testament) Daniel 9 Daniel’s Prayer 9 In the first year of Darius son of Xerxes[a] (a Mede by descent), who was made ruler over the Babylonian[b] kingdom— 2 in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood from the Scriptures, according to the word of the Lord given to Jeremiah the prophet, that the desolation of Jerusalem would last seventy years. 3 So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and petition, in fasting, and in sackcloth and ashes. 4 I prayed to the Lord my God and confessed: “Lord,...

Tuesday on CNBC’s “Mad Money,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said Democrats’ will win the House, retake the presidency and “hopefully” flip the Senate in the 2020 election. While discussing strengthening the Affordable Care Act, Pelosi said, “When we win and I anticipate that we will win the House, and hopefully win the Senate and certainly win the White House — but in the course of all of that, let’s use our energy to have health care for all Americans.”

Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren wants the federal government to fund “reproductive rights,” including abortion, for men as well as women. Warren recently made the pledge at a Tuesday Reproductive Freedom Voter event. “But the second part is to make sure that we provide basic health care for every American and that includes the full range of reproductive rights for women and for men.” Warren is not the first Democratic presidential candidate to suggest that men can not only have abortions but can choose to have children as well. Former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julian Castro said during the second...

There’s a lot to look at in this image. At first glance, one sees the anonymity of Norman Rockwell’s mid-century America: the house-unparticular porch, the timelessness of the couple form. Take another look and the pillars supporting the unseen roof of the porch start to resemble the Ionic columns of the White House, the background becoming a gesture or a promise of possibility. You begin to see the image in the aggregate, and the couple, girded by a backdrop literally overwhelmed by the household, becomes the timelessness of the entire image. This photo also tells a profound story about whiteness,...

Morning "If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit." Galatians 5:25 The two most important things in our holy religion are the life of faith and the walk of faith. He who shall rightly understand these is not far from being a master in experimental theology, for they are vital points to a Christian. You will never find true faith unattended by true godliness; on the other hand, you will never discover a truly holy life which has not for its root a living faith upon the righteousness of Christ. Woe unto those who seek...

There is an ongoing thrust by the fanatical pushers for a disarmed population, to enlist corporate America to their cause. Understandably, corporate entities are uneasy about outright support for any political faction; come out strongly on one side or the other, you are potentially alienating 20-30 percent of your customers. The 50% that are not strongly engaged in politics are unlikely to respond. When it comes to Second Amendment issues, there are about 5 million NRA members and 100 million gun owners. There are about 30 million people that think owning a gun is immoral. The numbers game falls...

Today’s post is in honor of Spc. Chazray C. Clark, who was killed by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan’s Kandahar province on this day in 2011. The 24-year-old native of Ecorse, Mich. was assigned to 4th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan. 1862: A day after the bloody Battle of Antietam, Gen. George B. McClellan blows yet another opportunity to capture Gen. Robert E. Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia, perhaps ending the Civil War. While Lee abandons his invasion of Maryland and turns south, McClellan allows the significantly outnumbered Confederates...

Many Americans crow that our higher education system is “the envy of the world,” even though it’s nearly impossible to point to any proof of that. In truth, however, some Americans look down on our system, saying that it is clearly inferior to that of other nations, such as Japan and Finland. A recent study published by the American Enterprise Institute, “International Higher Education Rankings” by Jason Delisle and Preston Cooper prompts my title. The authors have undertaken a comprehensive analysis of 35 advanced nations, examining their higher education systems along three metrics: attainment, resources, and subsidies. In the study,...

U.S. Border Patrol agents caught a convicted child sex offender re-entering the country, U.S Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced Tuesday. Agents arrested five men in Tucson, Arizona, on Saturday night after the driver of the car attempted to evade a Border Patrol vehicle driving behind them, according to CBP. “During routine processing, it was revealed that one of the men who claimed to be a Mexican national was actually from El Salvador and had a criminal history, which included indecent liberties with a child and possession of a controlled substance,” the agency said in a news release on Tuesday. The Salvadoran man...

Pistol caliber carbines have become extremely popular for the last few years with the plinkers and prepper crowd. During the ammo shortage, the prolific Wilson Combat company produced their 9mm rifle the AR9. This was supposed to let people enjoy shooting one caliber in a carbine or pistol. At first glimpse the Wilson AR9 has the similar appearance of an AR-15, so obviously an AR clone. It’s a quality-built 9mm AR with a quality AR price of $2,095. The idea is nice utilizing one caliber across platforms. Unfortunately, that price is what's killing it in the eyes of many buyers....

---(snip) But under the hastily concocted proposal the president promoted last week, researchers would examine whether small changes in the behavior of mentally ill people could predict violence. Shades of “Minority Report,” the 2002 sci-fi movie about a dystopian near-future where cops preemptively arrest people they predict will commit murder. The Washington Post reported last week that the proposal to study the possibility of pre-violence detection technology was generated by advocates for a proposed Health Advanced Research Projects Agency at the request of Ivanka Trump and others interested in exploring out-of-the-box ideas for fighting the epidemic of mass shootings. HARPA...

The Milpitas City Council voted to rename a portion of a major street after President Barack Obama, meaning the city may become the first in the Silicon Valley to honor the 44th president in such a way. In a 3-2 vote after an hour of sometimes contentious debate, the council decided to change the name of a part of Dixon Landing Road to Barack Obama Boulevard. Vice Mayor Karina Dominguez and Councilmen Anthony Phan and Bob Nuñez voted in favor of the change, while Mayor Rich Tran and Councilwoman Carmen Montano voted against it. "I think it's about what President...
