The Milpitas City Council voted to rename a portion of a major street after President Barack Obama, meaning the city may become the first in the Silicon Valley to honor the 44th president in such a way.
In a 3-2 vote after an hour of sometimes contentious debate, the council decided to change the name of a part of Dixon Landing Road to Barack Obama Boulevard.
Vice Mayor Karina Dominguez and Councilmen Anthony Phan and Bob Nuñez voted in favor of the change, while Mayor Rich Tran and Councilwoman Carmen Montano voted against it.
"I think it's about what President Obama represents, and how his values, his virtues (Bolding by Yossarian) are reflected in Milpitas as it is today as a city and a community," Councilmen Anthony Phan said by phone Tuesday before the meeting.

But the biggest issue on Tran's mind was the optics of renaming, as the western edge of Dixon Landing Road leads to the Newby Island Landfill.
"This thing is going to make news," Tran said. "It's going to say 'Barack Obama Boulevard in Silicon Valley's largest dump landfill,'" he said.
"It's going to reach USA Today, it's going to reach New York Times, it's going to reach Fox News, and President Trump might tweet about it. I'm not ready to be the joke in America," he said.

No, it is the major business road in town that everybody needs to travel on - and it leads to a stinky, smelly dump!
Obama was a horrible president. The ONLY reason they would do this is because he is colored. How is virtue signaling like this not racist?

I for one think this is wonderful. I do hope the entire media picks up on the Obama Blvd being the road to the dump.
OTOH,Osama Obama is *completely* devoid of redeeming qualities. So what will we see on the nation's Osama Obama Boulevards a few years from now?
Destined to become a violent thoroughfare just as every MLK blvd everywhere.

They need to have forged street signs—and mark over them three or four times until they get the name correct. ;-)
I drive that stretch of Dixon Landing twice a week as I transition between I-880 and I-680. They are talking about no more than a quarter of a mile being renamed. Big whoop for nothing more than a freeway sign change really. Guess I’ll rethink my route.
