Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) said Monday that he believes all commercial gun sales should be subject to a background check and signaled he's open to supporting bipartisan legislation from Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Pat Toomey (R-Pa.). "It certainly should be applied to commercial sales and finding a more comprehensive way to make sure that people are in the system that ought to be in the system," Romney told reporters when asked about expanding background checks.

The shabby treatment accorded to Tulsi Gabbard by the DNC marks how afraid the establishment of that party is to anyone who challenges key parts of its orthodoxy. Despite exceeding the threshold for individual donations, and 4 poll results above 2%, she was excluded from the debate stage in Houston this week on the flimsy pretext that there was something wrong with some of her polls, so the DNC would not recognize them. The exact criteria for recognizing a poll remains unstated by the Democrats. She unloaded on the DNC yesterday: But even more importantly, on Sunday she came...

Officials in Haverford Township voted Monday night to reinstate the Bon Air Fire Company after the department agreed to accept the resignation of a volunteer fireman. Officials also learned the fireman went through part of the initiation process before distancing himself from the group.

Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch responded to critics who might think that it is the job of judges to fix politics in an interview with CNN released Tuesday. "Do you really want me to rule the country?" he asked. "It is a raucous republic and the battle of ideas is what our founders had in mind," he continued. What they didn't have in mind "was nine old people in Washington sitting in robes telling everybody else how to live." Gorsuch was appointed by President Trump in 2017 to fill the seat vacated by the late Justice Antonin Scalia. He told...

And unlike the fabulously-engineered Porsche and the standard-carrying Teslas, this electric car has genuine world-changing potential. ...we concluded that the impressive little car was at least as disruptive as anything Tesla has done... At the time, we heard whispers that Renault's best cost engineers were turning their attention to an electric version of the Kwid and now that it's been announced it's clear that the breakthrough we were hoping for is actually real. Well, they've done it. With 100 miles of reasonably real-world range for under $9,000, Renault has accomplished something that Tesla will likely never be able to achieve...

There’s some debate over whether or not Taniguchi has a photographic memory, which allows details to be accurately recalled months after they’re observed, or an eidetic memory, which allows them to be accurately recalled for a few minutes afterward, given he kept a physical notebook with all the information in it. What’s for certain is that in the time it took to cash out a customer, Taniguchi was able to memorize their name, credit card number, expiration date, and security code for later nefarious use. Taniguchi admitted to using the fraudulent credit card information to buy goods that he would...

'Mr. President, I've got a few scores to settle' Democratic congressional candidate Valerie Plame's (N.M.) campaign on Monday released a new ad, where she ended it with a message of having a "few scores to settle." The ad, which is titled, "Undercover," shows liberal activist and ex-CIA operative Plame driving a Chevy Camaro backwards on an empty road in rural New Mexico while narrating her background throughout the ad. "I was an undercover CIA operative. My assignment was preventing rogue states and terrorists from getting nuclear weapons. You name a hot spot, I lived it," Plame said, as Iran, Iraq,...

A married man who died of a heart attack after having sex on a business trip in France was ruled to have been the victim of a workplace accident — making his company financially responsible, according to reports. Engineer Xavier X was found dead in his hotel room in Meung-sur-Loire shortly after having sex with a local woman he’d just met, according to the Times of London. Lawyers for his bosses at the Parisian railroad construction company TSO insisted he was not performing duties when he had the heart attack — blaming the “adulterous sex act that he had had...

'That's why I'm not on Twitter anymore' Democratic congressional candidate Valerie Plame (N.M.) blamed social media, specifically Twitter, on Monday night for why she interacted with an anti-Semitic website in 2017. Plame appeared on CNN's Cuomo Prime Time to discuss her official campaign launch as she runs for New Mexico's open Third Congressional District seat. After talking about her new campaign ad, host Chris Cuomo pressed Plame in a series of questions about sharing articles from the fringe site UNZ Review in September 2017, including one accusing "American Jews" of "driving America's wars." "You have retweeted or shown interest in...

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to announce later Tuesday his intention to promote annexation steps in the occupied West Bank if he wins the next week's elections, an Israeli official tells me. Why it matters: Netanyahu has already spoken about annexation before Israel's elections in April, but he didn’t commit or promise anything. Netanyahu’s statement is directed at his right-wing base and the settler lobby in order to boost support for his Likud party over other right-wing parties, ensuring that Likud wins most seats in the elections to gain an upper hand in building a coalition. The international...

While congratulating the council for the pretty drawing, Facebook user Hamir Habeed Mohd questioned the relevance of the drawing with Taiping. “Is the character a Taiping born? The plane landed in Taiping? The woman married a local or died there? Don’t tell me just because she refilled her petrol here it became a historical matter?” he asked. He further questioned why a local figure was not highlighted instead. “There are many other historical matters than could have been highlighted.” Sharing the same sentiment, another user by the name of Simon Chin questioned the reasoning behind the mural of Earhart when...

Morning "And he goeth up into a mountain, and calleth unto him whom he would: and they came unto him." Mark 3:13 Here was sovereignty. Impatient spirits may fret and fume, because they are not called to the highest places in the ministry; but reader be it thine to rejoice that Jesus calleth whom he wills. If he shall leave me to be a doorkeeper in his house, I will cheerfully bless him for his grace in permitting me to do anything in his service. The call of Christ's servants comes from above. Jesus stands on the mountain, evermore above...

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. Tobias Gray was arrested at his home in East Providence, Rhode Island Sunday. He was handcuffed and wore a Giants jersey and jacket during a court appearance in Providence Monday on unrelated assault charges. The 44-year-old was charged with simple and domestic assault and threatening police officers at the time of his arrest. Gray is accused of making a threatening post on Facebook over...

Months after President Trump’s victory in November 2016, Jon Ossoff mounted a long-shot congressional campaign in a historically red Georgia district — and unexpectedly became a symbol of hope for demoralized Democrats as he racked up millions from small donors. When he narrowly lost one of the most expensive House races in history in June 2017, Ossoff promised to return. “I launched this campaign believing that America can become stronger, more prosperous and more secure only if we stay true to the values that unite us,” Ossoff wrote in The Washington Post days after his loss. “I still believe that,...

Killer slime that can ‘kill you in seconds’ taking over France’s beaches France’s beaches have been inundated by lethal slime with what experts say has the potential to kill sunbathers within seconds. Fears have heightened and six beaches were closed this summer in Brittany as the “killer slime” took over the vacation destination, the Guardian reported. “It’s a shame this place has come to be associated with death,”... (snip) Piles of toxic algae have covered the shore on the northern coast near Saint-Brieuc due to the over-fertilization of nearby fields draining into the ocean, according to the news outlet. McDonald’s said Tuesday it has agreed to acquire a company that is trying to automate the drive-thru. It’s the fast-food giant’s third tech-focused deal this year. Apprente, a Silicon Valley company founded in 2017, uses artificial intelligence to understand drive-thru orders, which could cut down on service times. McDonald’s said the technology also could be used someday in its self-order kiosks and mobile app. The Chicago-based company said it evaluated Apprente’s technology in McDonald’s test restaurants.

The CIA extracted a longtime Kremlin asset from Russia in 2017 because of concerns that media reports would put him at risk, according to a New York Times report. The story undercuts a key aspect of a report that CNN published earlier Monday about the CIA operation. CNN’s Jim Sciutto reported that the CIA extracted the asset due in part to concerns about President Donald Trump’s handling of classified information. Sciutto, who served in the Obama administration, reported that the Russian source was removed soon after Trump met with Russian government officials in the Oval Office in May 2017. U.S....
