Romney signals he's open to bipartisan background check bill
The Hill ^ | September 9, 2019 | Jordan Carney

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) said Monday that he believes all commercial gun sales should be subject to a background check and signaled he's open to supporting bipartisan legislation from Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Pat Toomey (R-Pa.).

"It certainly should be applied to commercial sales and finding a more comprehensive way to make sure that people are in the system that ought to be in the system," Romney told reporters when asked about expanding background checks.

I am shocked Casablanca style. Willard never fails to disappoint. This is why you get for electing a soulless technocrat.

The good news is that we dodged a bullet with this guy in 2012.

The bad news is that we got Obama.

Of course he does. He’d probably suggest sacrificing children to Moloch if a Democrat suggested it. Good choice you made there, Utah. /s

The good news is that it set the stage for Trump.

He was supposed to lose... he was a stalking horse, not an actual candidate. He was there to ensure Obama’s second term. There was actually crowds starting to form at airports to greet him and he had no events... none. He wasn’t trying to win.

He wasn’t trying to win.

And if you need evidence, watch the debates.

I sorely miss Senator Orrin Hatch.

Wish he would have held on for one more term to cover PDJT’s presidency.

We need background checks on tour elected beerocrats. Congress and the Senate need extreme background checks as to finances and all sorts of criminal activities such as emails, financial and all possible things like President Trump was investigated for two years.

Old Mitt... RINO Mitt... There’s a reason many Republican voters didn’t vote for him- or simply didn’t show up in 2012...

I have an honest question - HOW do you enforce “universal background checks” covering private-party sales? If I sell a shotgun to a member of my church (or trade, as would be more likely in my case) - who is going to know? Here in Arkansas, there is no gun registration - There is no database kept of gun serial numbers and purchasers. Further - Federal Law prohibits the FBI/NCIC system from keeping such records - or even that there was a purchase made.

SO - again, this seems to be a meaningless proposal. Yes - you could probably police gun shows and verify (or operate undercover stings?) in those settings to bust Joe who carries a part of his collection to shows as a hobby - trying to work out trades or to flip a few to buy different guns...

But again - the only way to put teeth in this (and such teeth would ONLY bite law-abiding citizens who are trying to follow the law) - full registration.

So - I think we know the REAL reason for these proposals, and Mitt Romney is as anti-Freedom as Obama and the current Democrat Party.

Although the most egotistical man I have ever met, Sen. Hatch was also a pretty good public servant.
