WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – A fired Florida police officer was found guilty of manslaughter and attempted murder Thursday for fatally shooting a stranded black motorist, becoming the first officer in the state to be convicted of an on-duty shooting in 30 years. Nouman Raja, 41, faces a mandatory minimum of 25 years at sentencing April 26, and could spend his life in prison for the death of Corey Jones, 31. The four-man, two-woman jury deliberated for four hours. Raja didn't react as the verdict was read. About 25 relatives and supporters of Jones looked on, some weeping. One said...

7. Ted Cruz (Texas) Cruz has made his concerns clear that Trump issuing a national emergency could be a "slippery slope" for future Democratic presidents to use such powers to declare their policy priorities an emergency. It would make sense that Cruz, an expert in constitutional law, would be uncomfortable with this move, and if it had been done by a Democratic president he'd certainly be among those protesting the loudest about executive overreach. But after a bitter start to their relationship when they were opponents in the 2016 primary, Cruz has come around to being one of Trump's allies...

Democrats, climate campaigners and renewable energy interests are in full outrage mode over news that President Trump intends to launch a Presidential Committee on Climate Science. The PCCS would, at long last, review and question the “dangerous manmade climate change†reports by federal agencies and investigations funded by them. The committee would be led by Dr. Will Happer, a highly respected scientist and well known skeptic – not of climate change, but of manmade climate chaos. He would be joined by other prominent experts – of whom there are many – who share his doubts. No way! the climate alarmists rant....

Former Texas Rep. Ralph Hall, the oldest-ever member of the U.S. House and a man who claimed to have once sold cigarettes and Coca-Cola to the bank-robbing duo of Bonnie and Clyde, has died at age 95. The Republican and World War II pilot died at his home in Rockwall on Thursday morning, said Ed Valentine, Hall’s longtime strategist. Asked about a cause of death, Valentine simply cited Hall’s age, saying he hadn’t been suffering from any known long-term health problems. Hall was 91 when he left the House after being defeated in a 2014 Republican primary runoff election by...

Last week, the Senate confirmed the nomination of Eric Miller to the Ninth Circuit, and this week it has confirmed on successive days the nominations of Allison Jones Rushing to the Fourth Circuit (on Tuesday), Chad A. Readler to the Sixth Circuit (yesterday), and Eric E. Murphy also to the Sixth Circuit (today). Republican leader Mitch McConnell also filed cloture motions today on the nominations of Paul B. Matey to the Third Circuit and of Neomi Rao to the D.C. Circuit, so I gather that those nominations will receive final floor votes next week.

Well hello there, how ya doin’ campers? I’m Bruce Williams. For nearly 40 years, Mr. Williams was a voice on the airwaves. He connected strangers - before talk radio pandered to them, before cable news divided them and before the internet poisoned them. Mr. Williams, 86, died Feb. 9 following a stroke two months before. He lived in New Port Richey. The Radio Hall of Famer delivered his last broadcast on March 29, 2013. Manitowoc, Wisconsin, hello there. Hello Bruce, this is Mike. Hey Mike, what’s on your mind? Well, pleasure to speak with you and something I always...

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal hit a snag when it lost the support of another freshman representative, Ilhan Omar. Omar had been an enthusiastic supporter of the Green New Deal and wanted to save the earth, but then she noticed something very disturbing when looking at a map of the earth: Earth is the planet on which Israel resides. “You’ve been hypnotized by the Jews!” Omar accused a surprised Ocasio-Cortez. Omar then ripped up a copy of the Green New Deal. “This is just a plot to help Israel keep existing! Did AIPAC pay you off?”

The last injunction blocking President Trump’s transgender military ban from taking effect was lifted by a federal judge Thursday, moving the administration closer to being able to enforce the policy. In a six-page order issued on Thursday, U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland Judge George Russell III wrote that he was lifting his injunction because “the court is bound by the Supreme Court’s decision to stay the preliminary injunctions in their entirety." Though courts have now ruled to lift all four injunctions that had been placed on the policy, advocates for transgender troops say one remains in effect...

The man accused of assaulting a conservative activist on the University of California, Berkeley campus last month has been the subject of a restraining order and has filed numerous restraining orders himself, attorney Harmeet Dhillon told Fox News on Wednesday. Zachary Greenberg, 28, pleaded not guilty this week to three criminal charges stemming from his alleged assault of Hayden Williams, whose beating has received national attention and even been cited by President Trump during his recent CPAC speech. Williams, who is 26 years old and not a student at Berkeley, said he was manning a recruitment table on campus for conservative group...

The baby boy, whose name has not been made public, went home on Feb. 20, much to the delight of his parents who feared for the baby’s life, according to Reuters. He was delivered last August via C-section and weighed 268 grams (9.45 oz) after he failed to gain weight in the womb. He went home from the hospital weighing 7 lbs. “I am grateful that he has grown this big because, honestly, I wasn’t...

It’s not a windfall in campaign terms, but Colorado governor John Hickenlooper did pretty well in the first official two days of his presidential campaign. He took in over one million dollars, a decent start for someone who hadn’t been considered a first-tier contender at the beginning of the year.“The surge of support and enthusiasm for the governor is clear,†the campaign’s finance chair declared. Perhaps, perhaps not, but it’s at least some indication that he might run with the top tier after all. Only three other candidates managed to match or surpass that pace, CBS notes: Sen. Bernie...

President Donald Trump's former longtime attorney and fixer Michael Cohen on Thursday filed a lawsuit against the Trump Organization, claiming his former company has failed to pay "fees and costs" related in part to special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia probe. Cohen argues in New York state Supreme Court that the Trump Organization, where Cohen worked for roughly a decade as an executive vice president and special counsel to Trump, had a "contractual agreement" to compensate Cohen and "to pay attorneys' fees and costs" incurred through his work "with and on behalf of" company officials.
