Federal agencies billed taxpayers millions for lobster tail, alcohol, standing desks, golf carts, and more frivolous expenditures before budgets ran out at the end of the fiscal year.

Lobster, booze, and toys...
That sounds like the shopping list for an office party.
Yup. This has been done for decades, and never seems to change regardless of which party is in charge.
Not enough lampposts in D.C. Not nearly enough.
It does sort of explain the shift of young people towards Socialism. They figure “Hell, if government can afford THIS kind of extravagance, they can pay for my (health care/college education/child care/paid time off/fill in your favorite freebie here).
The solution is obvious.
Tally up the costs of frivolous items, double it, and give them that much less next year.
That's how corporate budgets work too.......Spend it all and ask for more or you'll be underfunded next year.
I was always told money does not grow on trees. That is clearly not true in the case of the federal gov.
Trillion dollar budgets... what’s a couple of lobsters?
Life is good in DC.
Oh wait, you need a paltry 5B for the wall??? Let me pull my pockets inside out. Nothin
Spend all remaining money budgeted for fiscal year or lose some money in next fiscal year’s budget.

With that being said, the corporate largess that incorporates the practice I mentioned above is ultimately passed down to the consumer......
The only difference is that you are forced as a tax payer to pay for those lobsters rather than forced to pay the higher cost in that new Dodge pickup........Which most would probably do anyway without giving a second thought as to why the cost went up from last year or the year before.......LOL!

Waiting for The potus to ask us to intervene.
But we cant afford a fecking wall.
Corporate behavior of that type is yet another reason young people are deciding “scroooooo it, I’m voting for socialism”.
Once you start the moral dominoes tumbling it’s real hard to stop them.
I agree. I have been out of the service for more than 30 years and we were doing it then. Although, we bought stuff we actually needed. No lobster for us.
Too bad the money couldn’t go to build the wall/fence instead.
There should be incentives for departments that go through a year UNDER budget instead of the traditional “Spend everything in the budget so we can still be allocated the same or more money for the next year”.
Otherwise govt blows through other peoples money like grass through a goose.
I would think private sector corps. would not allow that to happen very often as it would affect their bottom line...and the CEO’s bonus.
