At the height of the debate over a $1.1 trillion spending bill last week, we examined the similarities and differences between Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), who protested the measure from opposite ends of the political spectrum. Later, as the bill approached passage and won approval over the weekend, we saw a key distinction emerge: Cruz was willing to hold up the process to make his point. Warren was not. Warren opposed the bill because of a provision that would relax a restriction on Wall Street banks. In press conferences and Senate floor speeches, Warren spoke out...

This pig and her pig husband have made millions self-dealing with the federal government without proper bidding, and she uses her position of power to try and denigrate the Republicans and Bush with the release of this B.S. report about illegal interrogation methods. This is not a patriot, this is a pig trying to destroy her opposition while she feeds at the trough...disgusting to say the least and illegal at the worst. We need to clean house quick or people like her will destroy our country right before our eyes just like Obama is doing.

Inspiring Examples of Aged Faith September 7th, 2010 by Fr. Kyle Schnippel  Last week, I had the opportunity to con-celebrate Mass with two priests who, together, have 120 years of priestly experience. Only bringing 6 years to the Altar myself, I was somewhat in awe of the two aged servants who have toiled long in the vineyard of the Lord.As I reflect back on this Mass, and as I have continued to grow in friendship with these two men (who are both old enough to be my grandfather!), I continue to marvel at the great gift of the...

The Texas Republican has traveled to both coasts in the hopes of winning over skeptical donors. There's a downside to digging in. Just ask Ted Cruz. Since being elected to Congress in 2012, the Texas Republican has established himself as a conservative icon. On everything from spending fights to immigration policy and social issues, Cruz has been a powerful and reliable voice of the far right. His push last year to defund Obamacare—which shuttered the government—cemented his image as an uncompromising champion of the tea party. But now, as he prepares a presidential bid, Cruz needs to round out the rough...

Every now and then, there's a moment in television that's raw, unscripted and almost shockingly authentic. Our office stopped this morning as Sunrise newsreader Natalie Barr revealed one of the hostages killed in the Martin Place siege was Katrina Dawson. The 38-year-old mother of three children was a lawyer and the younger sister of barrister Sandy Dawson, who has worked with Channel 7. Barr's grief as she struggled to maintain a professional face moved some to tears. This is an awful morning for Australia, and it's the job of the media to report it as honestly and completely as it...

The City Council of Kennesaw, a community of 30,000 residents 30 miles northwest of Atlanta, voted unanimously to allow the prayer center, city clerk Pam Davis said. On Dec. 1, the council voted 4-1 to deny an application for the mosque, saying that zoning regulations did not allow a place of worship in that particular shopping center. An attorney for Muslim residents of Kennesaw called that decision an attack on his clients' rights to freedom of religion under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and said he had recommended they file a lawsuit. “I think it was a wise...

The much-touted harmony is fragile: Austria's Muslims are increasingly on a collision course with the Federal Government and its draft for the new Islamic law. On Monday, the Supreme Council, the highest governing body of the Islamic Community in Austria (IGGiÖ) made a statement - with a protest against the decision. They were disappointed with the approach taken by the government, was stated in a joint press release of the Supreme Council and the IGGiÖ President, Fuat Sanac.

WASHINGTON — Two late-night votes in the Senate last weekend provide fodder for party activists already drawing up plans to reward loyalists and punish adversaries as the 2016 U.S. election cycle starts. The litmus-test votes: passage of a $1.1 trillion spending bill that Democrats criticized for being too kind to big banks and campaign donors, and Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz's failed constitutional objection to President Barack Obama's immigration policy. Pressure from the bases of both parties was strong enough that 40 senators -- 22 Democrats and 18 Republicans -- voted against the bill even though it included provisions to...

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — North Korea asked the U.N. Security Council in a letter Monday to take up the CIA's harsh treatment of terror suspects, instead of the North's own human rights situation. North Korea's U.N. Ambassador Ja Song Nam objected to the inclusion of his country's human rights record on the Security Council's agenda for debate — the first step toward a possible referral to the International Criminal Court. "The so-called 'human rights issue' in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is politically fabricated and, therefore, it is not at all relevant to the regional or international peace and...

THESE are the six words that say it all. “I’ll be back at work tomorrow”. The words came from the 39-year-old officer who received a minor injury due to a shotgun pellet grazing his face during the Martin Place siege. The officer left hospital this morning.

WASHINGTON - Stepping into an elevator on his way out of the U.S. Capitol Friday night, Kentucky Republican Mitch McConnell - the next Senate Majority Leader - bid reporters farewell. "See you Monday," he said. By agreement with Democrats, a budget showdown risking a potential government shutdown had been pushed back a couple of days, creating breathing room for senators in both parties while they made plans for a pre-holiday weekend. Sen. Ted Cruz had other ideas. In a maneuver that would put the junior Republican senator from Texas at the center of another high-stakes political drama, Cruz pressed a...

Eric Garner, a 43-year-old father of six, is dead. This is a tragedy, regardless of the circumstances. We rightly mourn with his wife and children. They will never see their husband and father again, and that should break everyone's heart. When we witness a gut-rending tragedy like this, we want to know who is responsible. Who is to blame for depriving this family of its husband and father? As the facts emerge, it becomes increasingly clear that, as tragic as this situation is, in the end the culpability for Eric Garner's death rests with Eric Garner. To put it as...

"Every time we use a new figure in relation to the Syrian crisis, we say that it is unprecedented. We have run out of words to fully explain the brutality violence and callous disregard for human life which is a hallmark of this crisis," Valerie Amos, the U.N. chief for humanitarian affairs said. The Syrian government has used barrel bombs in densely populated areas and "arbitrarily detained" citizens and subjected them to serious beatings and torture. Armed opposition groups have taken locals hostage and killed civilians by using explosive mortar and car bombs. ISIS has committed "mass victimization" of civilians,...

CHICAGO (AP) — All the burglars use the same audacious tactics: A vehicle crashes through a storefront in the wee hours and up to six people in dark clothing and ski masks pour out, grabbing whatever they can with the speed of a NASCAR pit crew. Then the thieves dash out over the broken glass to a waiting getaway car. Since September, at least a dozen "crash-and-grab" burglaries have been reported at retail businesses in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. Some targeted high-end businesses, including a Neiman Marcus store on the famed Magnificent Mile. Others struck less affluent locations such...
