Just in case you missed this on TV -- or all over the Internet -- here's the video of 'Countdown' host Keith Olbermann blasting his enemy of the week, Fox News conspiracy theorist Glenn Beck. The rant started with Olbermann saying: "The danger of today's version of the mythical homespun aw-shucks-TV-totalitarian-Lonesome-Rhodes Glenn Beck is summed up by remarks today in which he claims that a revolution has begun in this country — a 'stealing of America in the guise of an election' — and his repeated insistence that the President is a Marxist. The comfort of today's mythical homespun aw-shucks-TV-totalitarian-Lonesome-Rhodes...

BASRAH — Thirty miles off the coast of Iraq, in the Persian Gulf, the USS Decatur patrols the waters around the Basrah Oil Terminal, providing security for the platform while Iraqi Naval Forces train to take its place. Republican Gov. Gary Herbert supports President Barack Obama's plan to deliver a televised back-to-school speech to the nation's students on Tuesday, saying he sees "nothing but good coming out of this." Herbert said he favors letting students listen to the speech, and he thinks it will foster a dialogue between parents and their children. "I think it's great. To hear from the president of the United States is an important thing," he said Saturday. "I'd like to hear what he has to say. "I hope parents will take the opportunity to discuss the issues with their children, hear what the...

The NAACP issued a statement in full support of President Obama's embattled Green jobs czar, Van Jones. The NAACP further called Glenn Beck a "right wing extremist," called controversies over Van Jones' past "diversionary tactics," and questioned advertisers' sponsorship of Beck's show.

In a little over 24 hours, there have been two more revelations about Presidential Green Jobs Czar Van Jones. Like on December 2, 2005: "You've never seen a Columbine done by a black child. Never. They always say, 'We can't believe it happened here. We can't believe it's these suburban white kids... Or what was revealed today by Gateway Pundit: While he was director of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights Van Jones cut a vile CD against whites, the government, Israel, The Man, oil companies, and everything else American. Van Jones was even featured in the recording! But...

Submitted by LiveScience Staff This video (scroll down) is making the rounds the past week on respected science sites like New Scientist as well as geek blogs and YouTube. It's based on not-brand-new research that involved a video that is said to be of interest to scientists who study these things and, perhaps, to anyone in the general public interested in sexual anatomy. Dr. Pek Van Andel and colleagues, in 1999, made the first MRI images of male and female sex organs while couples were having sex under, as it was put, cloistered conditions. MRI machines are said by some...

I thought of a way to write this to really get everyone's attention, but the more I contemplated the words I should use, the more I realized that sometimes words just get in the way. If the facts in this video do not haunt you into action, well then quite frankly no words I can come up with will..........................Because if we do not wake up the numbers in this video will become reality for our children

Can a lifestyle double as college credit, even a certificate? The University of Iowa is offering a certificate in sustainability this fall, and one person has signed up so far. But recent UI graduate Eric Holthaus has dedicated his job, apartment, and habits to being environmentally friendly. “The idea is being aware and learning a formalized way to show a lifestyle,” said Holthaus. He is an intern in the UI Office of Sustainability, created last December as an effort to bring green to a solidly black-and-gold campus. On July 10, Holthaus manned a table at the information fair at freshman...

Several times lately I've wanted to embed a YouTube video in an FR thread. I copy the embedding code from YouTube, put it in the Body box, but when I preview or post, it doesn't show up. I'm sure I've seen flash videos embedded (the fundraiser box for example), but I can't seem to find any threads with one so I can look at the source to see what FR likes.I've tried tweaking YouTube's code a little but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

The starry-eyed Hopeychangey Generation growing bored with Obama. Now he's targeting the kindergarten constituency. On Friday, I had the rare honor of appearing in the pages of The New York Times, apropos President Obama's plans to beam himself into every schoolhouse in the land in the peculiar belief that Generation iPod will find this an enthralling technical novelty. As Times reporters James C McKinley Jr. and Sam Dillon wrote: "Mark Steyn, a Canadian author and political commentator, speaking on theRush Limbaugh show on Wednesday, accused Mr. Obama of trying to create a cult of personality, comparing him to Saddam Hussein...

Bring on the war of words. In a frank conversation with MSN writer Lawrence Ulrich, Audi of America President Johan de Nysschen has said that the Chevy Volt will fail and that anybody who buys the car is an idiot. Not only that, de Nysschen has lumped proponents of any type of electric car into a category of “intellectual elite who want to show what enlightened souls they are.”

I do not understand how a gun buy-back (CR, Aug. 27) “paves the way to peace.” Five previous efforts offer no indication of doing so. Would not putting easy gun buy-back money in the hands of criminals that have guns just encourage them to steal guns? We can blame guns for a lack of peace, but if we want to respect humanity’s dignity we have to blame criminals. Crime is a choice. I do not know how to cure criminals. I do know that we need to protect ourselves from them and that a gun is a reasonable thing to...

FROM PASTOR PAT’S DESK Dear Friends, You have read two eloquent pastoral letters in this issue, one from Mark Hanson, the Presiding Bishop of the ELCA, and one from B. Penrose Hoover, our own bishop of the Lower Susquehanna Synod. As your pastor, I feel that I also ought to share my thoughts with you about what was decided at the churchwide assembly regarding ordination of gay and lesbian persons in long-term committed same sex relationships. In his “Prefaces to the Old Testament, “ Martin Luther said, “Here [in the Scriptures] you will find the swaddling cloths and manger in...

TEHRAN, Iran — Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Venezuela's Hugo Chavez railed against the West on Saturday, pledging to deepen their ties and stand together against the United States and world powers the two perceive as imperialistic. Chavez is on an 11-day tour that has taken him to Libya, Algeria, Syria and Iran. The leftist Venezuelan leader is also to visit Belarus, Russia and Spain in the trip he has described as a bid to build a "multi-polar world" and counter U.S. influence. After landing in Tehran late Friday — his eighth visit to Iran so far — Chavez said Iran...

“He Has Done All Things Well” (Mark 7:31-37)How do you speak to a deaf man? With sign language, of course. You make the appropriate gestures and actions to communicate the message you want to convey. And so that is what Jesus does to communicate with a deaf man who is brought to him. He uses sign language, if you will, to get his message across to the man before he heals him. But in so doing, and then in actually healing the man, Jesus is also sending a message to us. The question is, Can we read the sign? Our...

The CatholiCity Message Volume XIII, Number 5 Dear CatholiCity Citizen, We believe you will truly find this month's message helpful. This is one you might want to forward on to your friends and relatives. THE DYNAMICS OF WORLDLY POWER A wise man once told us that the most searing allegory for understanding human nature is The Emperor's New Clothes. Why did the people in the story ignore that the emperor was naked and praise his imaginary outfit? Because the emperor had worldly authority, and the people lusted after the favors, fortune, power, and pleasures he could provide to them--to the...

WEST CHESTER TWP. — Thousands of people made their way to the Voice of America Park this afternoon, Sept. 5, for a Tea Party event. It was festival-like atmosphere of patriotism, with food vendors, face-painting for kids and live music for crowd that Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones estimated topped out at 18,000. People of all ages were wearing patriotic clothing in hues of red, white and blue, many carrying American flags and hand-made signs with myriad slogans. The event drew people from all over the region, including a family from Springfield. Laura and Andy Rosenberger of Springfield were...
