When the political world arrives at the point where even the Japanese rise up to toss a party from office after almost 54 years in power, it's time to see something's happening here, Mr. Jones. The ever-entertaining Karl Marx described a society's least politically engaged people as the lumpen proletariat. Well, it's beginning to look as if the globe's lumpen proletariat has decided they've had about enough of the lumpen bureaucratariat. It could be a revolution under way, though not the one predicted by the boys at the barricades. To Mr. Marx, the lumpen proletariat (often slurred into a single...

Is it just me, or is the way this whole cult of personality thing going on with our current President beginning to really take on the characteristics of a type of benevolent despotism on the part of our federal government? ObamaCare -- and this creepy new gag, where Barack Obama will be beamed September 8th into the classrooms of all our children -- seems to be the latest manifestation of this phenomenon. First, there was a 787 billion dollar stimulus that doesn't seem to be stimulating much other than a ton of equally-creepy "Your Obama Stimulus Dollars at Work" road...

Kid Rock set the record Saturday night for the most f-bombs dropped at the State Fair grandstand. Sorry, I quit counting at 20, including his arriving onstage flipping the bird on both hands (and let’s not mention the s-bombs).

A new report from UC Davis researchers finds that American gun shows are the leading source of guns used in crimes, not just in the United States, but Mexico and Canada as well.

Parents are outraged after a Utah elementary school showed a video to schoolchildren about pledging to "to be of service to Barack Obama," "to never give anyone the finger when I'm driving again," "to sell my obnoxious car and buy a hybrid" and to advance stem-cell research. The video, titled "I Pledge" and produced by Demi Moore, features more than 50 Hollywood celebrities who offer their support for President Obama's policies. The film was played for Obama during his inaugural celebration. But school administrators at Eagle Bay Elementary School in Farmington, Utah, showed the video to young students at an...

Here is video of Sean Hannity tonight talking with Michelle Malkin about President Obama's plan to speak to school children next week, on Tuesday, September 8. He talked about Obama's ground troop organization - Organizing for America - and their plan to push for passage of Government Health Care on September 11. Michelle Malkin says what Obama is now doing as President is consistent with his history of radical associations in Chicago. Malkin said Obama is seeking to use the school speech next week as a prop and tool to divert attention from his difficulties with Health Care. Malkin said...

White House Adviser Says President Will Lay Out More Specifics On What He Wants In A Bill WASHINGTON (CBS) ― President Barack Obama will deliver a major address to Congress next Wednesday, confronting critics of his health care overhaul and trying to buck up supporters on an issue that has been slipping from his control under withering Republican-led attacks. The speech will underscore an acceleration of Obama's direct involvement in proposals to overhaul the nation's health care system. Many allies have been urging him to be more specific about his plans and to take a greater role in the debate,...

BOSTON -- Massachusetts officials are considering adding Sen. Edward M. Kennedy's name to public buildings and landmarks just a week after his death. One state lawmaker has proposed changing the name of Boston's Logan International Airport to Logan-Kennedy International Airport in honor of the late senator, who died at age 77 of a brain tumor. Administrators at a Boston charter high school want to change the name of their facility to the Edward M. Kennedy Academy for Health Careers.

I had the opportunity to speak briefly with President Obama, to welcome him to the Basilica and to share with him that the bishops of the Catholic Church are anxious to support a plan for universal health care, but we will not support a plan that will include a provision for abortion or could open the way to abortions in the future. The President was gracious in the short time we spoke, he listened intently to what I was saying.

In 2007 Justice Anthony Kennedy decided that what we exhale every second of our lives, carbon dioxide (CO2), is a pollutant. As a result of this one man's opinion, Americans will be subjected to government regulations that will change their world. In a 5-4 decision written by Justice John Paul Stevens the U.S. Supreme Court said the language of the Clean Air Act, defining "air pollutant" is a "sweeping definition, and the greenhouse gases", namely carbon dioxide, "fit well within the definition of air pollutant." It was the vote of Anthony Kennedy, who joined with the liberal block that decided...

The time has passed for sitting around and talking about what is going on to the point we actually have do something! I beg you, find a way, be in DC. Don't look for the reasons you can't, find the reasons you can. It is just one day out of the thousands you have, use a couple of days of your life to support the American Way. Philosophy has never built anyrhing.

Though Ad Was Never Authorized, It Somehow Ended Up On The Internet, Causing Furor From Victims' Families NEW YORK (CBS) ― The World Wildlife Fund has condemned an unauthorized ad that is circulating on the Internet. It tastelessly refers to 9/11 and was rejected by an ad agency. The ad shows dozens of planes all headed for lower Manhattan, with the World Wildlife Fund logo and the caption: "The tsunami killed 100 times more people than 9/11." The response from WWF came quickly. "It's just insulting and appalling and we would never have ever considered using such images or such...

HARARE (AFP) – President Robert Mugabe has pardoned 1,500 inmates, more than 10 percent of the prison population, as Zimbabwe struggles to provide them with food and water, an official said Wednesday. Mugabe granted amnesty to 1,544 prisoners, mainly women and juveniles, as well as people with terminal illnesses, said the permanent secretary in the justice ministry David Mangota. "The Zimbabwe Prison Service has faced challenges in... provision of prisoners' rations, clothing and bedding, toiletries and transport among others," Mangota told the official New Ziana news agency. "As a short-term relief option... a proposal to have a general amnesty was...

Before leaving for his vacation on Martha's Vineyard, Barack Obama said the next big item on his legislative agenda — well, after health care and cap-and-trade and maybe labor's bill to effectively abolish secret ballots in union elections — was immigration reform. What he has in mind, apparently, is something like the comprehensive immigration bills that foundered in the House in 2006 and in the Senate in 2007. These featured guest-worker and enforcement provisions, as well as a path to legalization. The prospects for such legislation still seem iffy. Immigration bills have typically needed bipartisan support to pass, and the...

WASHINGTON -- Rather than continuing to fund expensive health care for foundering politicians, particularly when the president brags he’s “got a doctor who follows me everywhere,” a secret panel of bureaucrats has ordered Democrats to take the blue pill. The decision comes as President Barack Obama’s agenda continues to crumble, evidenced by a cap and tax bill going nowhere in the Senate and a contentious health care plan that no longer offers a public option and a plummeting approval rating hovering just barely above 40 percent only 8 months after his inauguration. This means that Democrats will continue to live...

WASHINGTON — While Republicans are calling a Department of Veterans Affairs health planning booklet a "death book" that encourages veterans to kill themselves or forgo care, ethicists and legal and medical experts say it's a reasonable attempt to help America's veterans plan for the end of their lives. Jim Towey, the former director of President George W. Bush's White House office of faith-based initiatives, wrote in The Wall Street Journal last month that the VA's "Your Life, Your Choices" booklet encourages veterans to "hurry up and die." Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele added in a television interview that the...

Time to Exercise Your Bound Conscience by Sarah Wilson — September 02, 2009 So, here we stand. A tiny portion of the ELCA's membership, somewhat more than 500 people, have decided at a single event to overturn the historic teaching of the church, without any real attempt to back it up scripturally or theologically or even persuade most members of the church. Alas. But they have thrown us a bone--we are allowed to exercise our bound consciences. So let's get to work. Here are three continuing resolutions proposed by various persons in the ELCA and sent to us at LF--we...
