Alaska Republican Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican vice presidential candidate last year, announced today she will not finish her first term as governor. Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell will take the oath of office before the end of the month. Palin, regarded as a front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012, made the announcement from the backyard of her home on the shore of Lake Lucille in Wasilla. The governor emphasized she has been the target of 15 ethics complaints -- all dismissed -- at a cost of $2 million to the state and some $500,000 to her family. "It...

"Either Sarah Palin is leaving the people of Alaska high and dry to pursue her long shot national political ambitions or she simply can't handle the job now that her popularity has dimmed and oil revenues are down. Either way – her decision to abandon her post and the people of Alaska who elected her continues a pattern of bizarre behavior that more than anything else may explain the decision she made today."

So to serve the state is a humbling responsibility, because I know in my soul that Alaska is of such import, for America’s security, in our very volatile world. And you know me by now, I promised even four years ago to show MY independence… no more conventional “politics as usual”. And we are doing well! My administration's accomplishments speak for themselves. We work tirelessly for Alaskans. We aggressively and responsibly develop our resources because they were created to be used to better our world... to HELP people... and we protect the environment and Alaskans (the resource owners) foremost with...

When She resigned today, Sarah Palin (videos above and below) made either the most impressive political move ever, or ruined her political career. She talked about how the frivolous ethic lawsuits, and how she has to spend too much of her time and her staffs time and money defending herself. Beyond that the unfairness of the press, the Letterman type family attacks, and the Vanity Fair article could not have been morale boosters. Her speech was heartfelt and she talked how she is a maverick and this is a maverick move. She gave the speech like a fighter. This is...

Huntsville Congressman Parker Griffith faced a crowd of more than 100 people Thursday night who wanted answers on plans for health care reform, an issue Congress is working on now. There were vocal advocates for a single-payer system similar to ones in Europe and Canada. Maybe a larger contingent - judging by the applause - was anxious that the government was going to take over health care. ...cut... The event at the Davidson Center at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center was spirited, with cheers for tort reform and boos for higher taxes and long-winded questioners. The audience also seemed...

Quick post while at work….Sarah Palin is resigning as Governor. Guess that’s it for her. UPDATE “Todd to FNC: Sarah to concentrate on doing things for Alaska and the country she can’t do as governor.” UPDATE She brings up the slams against Trig as being a reason her kids wanted her to do something. “It’s been in the works for awhile.” Said that her trips to visit the troops was a factor. Nice finish. “Don’t explain - your friends don’t need it, and your enemies won’t believe it anyway.” Not sure I get it. She could be planning to spend...

July 3, 2009 SNIPPET: "Belgrade, 3 July (AKI) - A special Belgrade court on Friday sentenced 11 members of a radical Islamic Wahabi movement to more than 60 years in prison after they were found guilty of planning terrorist activities and illegal weapons possession. Fifteen members of the group were arrested in Serbia’s southern Sandzak region, which has a substantial Muslim population. The trial started in January last year but 12 members of the group refused to engage defence lawyers, saying they did not recognise a Serbian court and could be “judged only by Allah”...."

I've heard that Bill Krisol has been informally (or maybe formally) advising Sarah Palin for a while now. Does it seem like possibly Kristol gave her some advice for 2012? The thing is, if Kristol predicts 90 degree weather I grab my jacket. edit: I flipped to msnbc and it says that sources are telling andrea mitchell that Palin is out of politics for good. But then again, it is nbc...

As a brand-new fiscal conservative and Republican, I notice some of my new friends have little or no experience with political protests. They could use a few tips on how to talk to reporters and how to make the most of their tea party demonstration experience. I was a newspaper reporter for a couple of years in the 1980s, and because lesbians and women have had to fight for equality, I’ve participated in picketing, demonstrations, and marches since around 1974. The most important thing you can bring to your tea party is your 30-second answer to the following question: “Why...
