Harry Reid Won't Commit to Giving Public a Week to Read Health-Care Bill Before Senate Votes on It Friday, June 26, 2009 By Monica Gabriel and Marie Magleby

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) at a pen-and-pad news conference, June 25, 2009. (CNSNews.com photo/Penny Starr) (CNSNews.com) – Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D- Nev.) will not commit to giving senators and the public a full week to read and review the final version of a health-care reform bill before he holds a final vote on it.

Reid confessed at his Thursday news briefing that he did not have “a lot of time” to read the 1,071-page stimulus bill before voting on it in February.

He was unapologetic, however, about the way Congress rushed that bill through before it could be reviewed by senators and the public, and declined to commit to giving senators and the public at least a week to read the final version of health-care reform bill before calling a vote on it.

“Pelosi Won’t Give Public a Week to Review Text of Health-Care Bill Before House Votes on It”
Monday, June 29, 2009
By Marie Magleby and Monica Gabriel

SNIPPET: “(CNSNews.com) - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) will not give the public a week to review the final text of a health-care reform bill before it is voted on later this year.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D.-Nev.) has also declined to commit to giving the public a week to read and consider the final health-care bill.

At her press briefing on Thursday, Pelosi was asked whether the health-care bill would be handled differently than the stimulus bill, which came up in February. The 1,071-page final text of that bill was posted on the House Appropriations Committee’s Web site late on a Thursday night and then voted on the next day.”

No surprises on this. Nevada has a chance to get rid of him. It will take some doing, as he is a dirty politician.

I hope his opponent hammers him over the head with this during the next election. Reid does not deserve another term, and he needs to be retired through a bitter defeat.

“Democratic Senator Predicts None of His Colleagues ‘Will Have the Chance’ to Read Final Stimulus Bill Before Vote”
Friday, February 13, 2009
By Ryan Byrnes and Edwin Mora

SNIPPET: “(CNSNews.com) – Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) predicted on Thursday that none of his Senate colleagues would “have the chance” to read the entire final version of the $790-billion stimulus bill before the bill comes up for a final vote in Congress.

“No, I don’t think anyone will have the chance to [read the entire bill],” Lautenberg told CNSNews.com.”

They want to change the entire health care system in the US and don’t want anyone to know how. Good stuff!

Well, when he calls for unanimous consent to waive the reading of the bill or any amendments, then just one senator needs to object. Then it will be read from the rostrum, the whole thing.

But for some reason, the comity of the senate prevents the members from doing this.

Actually, it does surprise me. I'm surprised that he didn't lie thorough his crooked teeth and say that everyone would have plenty of time to read the bill.

I would prefer an over whelming decisive defeat myself. Politicians are so dirty any more that I don’t hold my breath about anyone beating anyone else.

And why should they be any different than most of their constituents, who apparently don't read most of what they vote on in the voting booths of America?

I remember my Dad teaching us kids that anytime you had a salesperson pushing to make you move without time to really consider the transaction that it was not in your best interest. Period. He spent his younger years as a traveling salesman for the tiny little tea leaves of Tetley Tea back in the post-war years of the late 40’s and he generally knew of which he spoke when it came to sales tactics!

I'm sure the same holds true here!

He also traveled for a company that sold all sorts of calenders, pens, and other promotional stuff. It was the U. O. Colson Company and I remember him coming home on Friday nights and my sister and I delighting in spending the weekend going through his samples!

Harry Reid comes to mind when I see the following quote:

“Why should we give you time to read it when we haven’t even read it?”

“So just trust us. You’ll like it, and if you don’t like it, you can just shut up about it, nobody asked your opinion anyway.”
