As a brand-new fiscal conservative and Republican, I notice some of my new friends have little or no experience with political protests. They could use a few tips on how to talk to reporters and how to make the most of their tea party demonstration experience. I was a newspaper reporter for a couple of years in the 1980s, and because lesbians and women have had to fight for equality, Ive participated in picketing, demonstrations, and marches since around 1974.
The most important thing you can bring to your tea party is your 30-second answer to the following question: Why are you here?
The tea parties will be covered by reporters and bloggers, who will be professionals or amateurs, for news outlets running the spectrum of conservative, libertarian, and liberal.
You must be able to tell a reporter in 30 seconds or less why you are participating in a political protest.
The funny thing is, the more you know about the damage President Obama and the Democratic Congress are doing to the U.S. economy, the harder it may be to give a simple answer. But a simple answer is the one that will get quoted. It will help if you write down your thoughts and rewrite them until you have a short list or statement that you can deliver in 30 seconds or less....

The best rule of thumb is: Don’t!
Talk to them like you would talk to a slow child?
sound bites.
Good Gosh! You're dumb!
How about:
I’m here protesting the unfair taxation, wasteful spending, and loss of individual freedom because the press is too busy cheerleading to do its job anymore.
If you don’t have a coherent answer & they come up to you, you’ll look like an idiot & the press will be thrilled to use you to represent every other tea partier. Good advice to have a coherent answer ready:
“I’m afraid that we are sinking into a socialist abyss from which we may never recover!”
“We are losing our freedoms to government bureaucrats.”
“Our country is being bankrupted by politicians who think they know better how to run our lives than we do.”
read: pro-choice, anti-gun, pro-gay marriage, pro Romney or Rudy.
25+ years ago I got unjustly flagged from a club. A large Negro bouncer grabbed me and had a firm arm lock behind my back. He was quit shocked and quickly let go when I looked over my shoulder and puked all over him. I plan on doing something like that if a reporter asks me a question that I don’t like.
Jesus. Spare me.
TEACHABLE MOMENT: Here is how to properly handle a situation like this....
Reporter: Hi, I’m a reporter from the local media, here to cover your tea party.
You: Get the **** away from my tea party!!
Any questions??
I’m here because my three year-old Daughter and the rest of her generation will be paying for Obama’s socialism, that’s why.
“You must be able to tell a reporter in 30 seconds or less why you are participating in a political protest.”
We are quickly becoming servants of an all knowing State.
ping for later
out of control govt spending is essentially selling our children into slavery to the chinese govt. have a nice day.
Yeah, I stopped reading at that very sentence.
It would take me quite a while to explain why many people do not like excessive taxation, and govermenet spending. It starts with moving in the wrong direction, and the need to cut government spending. Being in debt for the next 100 years, is not in the best interest of our country.
LOL, let's not insult the children! Children, even 'slow' children often catch on to someone, though well-meaning, who tries to talk slow to them. But, yes, they need special talk. ;-)
Talk softly and carry a 2x4. Nails optional.
