"I know when it's time to pass the ball for victory," soon-to-be-former Governor Sarah Palin says at a press conference with her family, standing before a picturesque river and seaplane. She says she's looking forward to the swearing in of Lt. Governor Sean Parnell. "All I can ask is that you trust me with this decision," she says. It comes after a great deal of prayer and deliberation." She said when...

This whole cap and trade thing reminds me of a discussion I took part in as part of our city’s Master Plan Rewrite Committee. As part of the Master Plan Rewrite we filled out an SGRAT survey (Smart Growth Readiness Assessment Tool, a product of Michigan State University). It allows you to evaluate your city by SMART growth standards. The intent of SMART growth is to stress the reuse of property and so inhibit urban sprawl. If I am not boring you yet, here are the ten tenets of SMART growth. 1. Create a range of housing opportunities and choices—(...

When we celebrate the Fourth of July, we are celebrating one of the most important political documents in the history of the world. The Declaration is a statement to the world -- the people of the world was the audience -- about the very nature of government and its relationship to men. Sometimes we appreciate what this document was, but perhaps we need even more to appreciate what it was not. It was not a poll-driven summation of current opinion. The men who gathered in Philadelphia did respect each other's talents and knowledge, but the document they signed was not...

The great British intellectual G. K. Chesterton wrote that “America is the only nation in the world that is founded on [a] creed.” Think about that for a moment. Other nations were founded on the basis of race, or by the power of kings or emperors who accumulated lands and the peasants who inhabited those lands. But America was—and is to this day—different. It was founded on a shared belief. Or, as Chesterton said, on a creed. And what is that creed that sets us apart? It is the eloquent, profound, and simple statement penned by Thomas Jefferson in the...

As much as Republican gubernatorial challenger, former State Senator Dr. Joe Heck, would hate to be compared to President Obama … I couldn’t resist. While at the Las Vegas Independence Day Tea Party today, of which Dr. Heck was a speaker, a man had some sort of seizure that I believe was heat induced. The man collapsed, and without hesitation Dr. Heck (a doctor) sprung into action to provide medical aid to the man … who will be ok. You couldn’t have written a better script for Dr. Heck to assist in his quest to unseat a RINO in Gov....

SAN FRANCISCO - The attorney representing two same-sex couples who were denied a right to wed in California said on Thursday he expected the case to end up before the U.S. Supreme Court, which has yet to hear a case on the gay marriage issue. "When it does get to the United States Supreme Court, we expect to win," Theodore Olson, who was solicitor general under former President George W. Bush, told reporters after the first hearing on federal lawsuit that was filed in May. A high court ruling potentially could trump state laws prohibiting same-sex unions. Five out of...

The Washington Examiner’s Freeman Klopott is reporting that dozens of wealthy Beltway families have employed illegal immigrants as domestic employees in what Federal prosecutors have said amounts to slave labor. Sentencing was scheduled to be held for naturalized citizen and Indonesian native Soripada Lubis for harboring up to 24 Indonesian women, and profiting from their labor. Lubis’ wife, Siti Chadidjah Siregar, an Indonesian citizen, has also entered a guilty plea to making false statements, and faces up to 5 years in prison. This is interesting: Klopot says, “The list of Lubis’ 50 clients divulged in court filings by federal prosecutors...

Nobama is all over the news. There is no where to hide from his picture, his voice, his marxism. But who is speaking for us? Oh, sure, plenty of us here on FR, on BTR and on terrestrial talk radio. But of those running for office, who speaks for us? I can't say he speaks for you, but he definitely speaks for me, and to me. Lt. Col. Allen West is one of today’s most admired veterans, leaders and speakers. His speech is a direct reflection of his philosophy, leaving no one in question as to where he stands. Excerpts...

Has anyone experienced this or heard of God giving someone much better eyesight where everything becomes much clearer temporarily? I am talking about physical eyesight. I mentioned this has happened to me many times at a ministry meeting this week and one person said it has happened to him once after a dream he believes was from God. I have experienced this after dreams, during fellowship with God, while in the Word of God, approximately 20 to 40 times in the last 25 years. Everything becomes clearer, crystal clear instantly. You can just see a lot better. My normal eyesight...

the debt stands today at a staggering $11.5 trillion -- equivalent to over $37,000 for each and every American. And it's expanding by over $1 trillion a year. The mountain of debt easily could become the next full-fledged economic crisis without firm action from Washington, economists of all stripes warn. "Unless we demonstrate a strong commitment to fiscal sustainability in the longer term, we will have neither financial stability nor healthy economic growth," Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke recently told Congress. Higher taxes, or reduced federal benefits and services -- or a combination of both -- may be the inevitable...
