CNN's chief national correspondent John King criticized his network's handing of the Republican YouTube debate that critics have called "Debate-gate" because at least ten of the supposed "undecided Republican voters" submitting video questions turned out to be Democratic activists. Responding to a question from the audience at a National Press Club program about media coverage of the 2008 presidential election Monday night, King admitted that "fundamental journalism mistakes" were made in the vetting process. King called the mistakes "inexcusable" and said that the debacle "should not have happened." So far, CNN has not announced any investigation of the circumstances surrounding...

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida (CNN) -- The eight candidates vying to be the Republican nominee for president in the 2008 elections answered questions submitted by CNN and YouTube users in a debate Wednesday night. Here is a full transcript of the event: Florida Republican Party Chairman Jim Greer: Welcome to tonight's presidential debate, co-sponsored by the Republican Party of Florida. It is my pleasure tonight to introduce the man who has brought new ideas to state government, and whose leadership has been embraced by the voters of Florida, and who has become the nation's most popular governor.

The CNN/Youtube Democratic debate was horrible because a) almost all the videos submitted were incredibly weak, and b) CNN chose the weakest of the bunch. Rather than forcing those who want to be president of the U.S. to defend their policies, the candidates got off easy and were for the most part simply able to launch into their stump speeches. This problem will continue in one form or another as long as CNN or another biased group is the gatekeeper. The better way to choose the videos is to ask known quantities (such as bloggers and pundits who have reputations...

George Washington. Abraham Lincoln. Franklin Roosevelt. John F. Kennedy. Ronald Reagan. Who among these men would answer, with a straight face, a question posed by a snowman? One wonders about the seriousness of a nation that considers the YouTube debate hosted by CNN a success and a triumph. Countless commentators have fawned over how refreshing it was to replace those stuffy old reporters with videos of real people with real concerns. Michael Finnegan and Matea Gold of the LA Times gushed, "Free-wheeling video questions from ordinary citizens put a fresh spark into the staid ritual of presidential debates this week,...

Four days after the Democratic debate in Charleston, S.C., more than 400 questions directed to the GOP presidential field have been uploaded on YouTube, as Republicans are scheduled to take their turn at video-populism on Sept. 17. But only Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) and Rep. Ron Paul (Tex.) have agreed to participate in the debate, co-hosted by the Republican Party of Florida in St. Petersburg. "Aside from those two candidates, we haven't heard from anyone else," said Sam Feist of CNN, which is co-sponsoring the debate with the popular video-sharing site. Rudolph W. Giuliani and Mitt Romney, both with dozens...

"If it wasn’t clear before last nights debate that none of the other Democrat candidates are really in this race, it should be clear now. John Edwards appeared almost child like every time he opened his mouth, very nervous, in way over his head in this arena. The rest simply took turns making fools of themselves with overtly ignorant statements like these, Dennis Kucinich, “I say we achieve strength through peace. That’s the new doctrine that I’m going to promote throughout this campaign.” – Mike Gravel who spent the evening firing at everyone on the stage, “You’re not going to...

Every four years, journalists present themselves as objective questioners in presidential debates only to be roundly, and correctly, denounced by conservatives for being anything but. When, oh when, we ask, will America be able to enjoy a candidate forum free from liberal reporters inserting their slanted worldviews into the discussion? When, oh when, we ask ourselves, will they get out of the way? It looks like we should be very careful what we ask for. On Tuesday night, CNN did this -- or at least said it was doing this. The network teamed up with the video site YouTube to...

Well, it’s 9:14 pm on Monday, July 23rd -just minutes after the unbelievably important and innovative Democrat candidate debate put on by CNN and You Tube. The debate was hyped for about 64 days in advance because, not only would it be on CNN (distantly the second biggest name in cable news!), but the questions were submitted via the video site You Tube -- and You Tube is on the internet, which for the young bucks running CNN is a new idea. Through this alliance, average citizens with digital video cameras and web access (suddenly no Democrat talk of a...

Welcome to the internet, mainstream media! (NNC) - When CNN and YouTube decided to pair up and merge the mediums of television and internet, neither companies quite expected to get all the baggage that comes with user-submitted, online-oriented content. This time, that baggage came in the form of a hidden online secret image, lovingly labeled “GOATSE,” based on the original website *Link removed By poster, Search it out if you're that much of a freak*. “GOATSE” refers to an image that began circulating the internet and infiltrating innocent users’ internet explorer windows as early as January 2000. But what makes...
