ST. PETERSBURG, Florida (CNN) -- The eight candidates vying to be the Republican nominee for president in the 2008 elections answered questions submitted by CNN and YouTube users in a debate Wednesday night. Here is a full transcript of the event:

Florida Republican Party Chairman Jim Greer: Welcome to tonight's presidential debate, co-sponsored by the Republican Party of Florida. It is my pleasure tonight to introduce the man who has brought new ideas to state government, and whose leadership has been embraced by the voters of Florida, and who has become the nation's most popular governor.

My analysis (copypasta from the live thread):

I despise Huckabee and consider him a socialist tax-raising nanny-state RINO fraud. HOWEVER, I will concede he looked pretty good tonight. That said, I will still vote third party if he is that candidate.

Giuliani and McCain did serious damage to themselves tonight. Of all of them, I thought Tancredo was a standout, and wish he would have got more questions. Hunter, Thompson, and Paul all did very well for themselves. Paul came across as wall as he could with his end-is-nigh-tinfoil-hat inflection. Thompson and Hunter both hit it out of the park on the questions asked of them, and there should have been more for both of them.

Romney was a mixed bag. He and Ruity beat the hell out of each other, and I don’t think either gained anything, but I think FAR more damage was done to Ruity, much of it by himself. He appeared VERY uncomfortable all night, and constantly had to bring up the “In New York...” meme.

WINNERS: Thompson, Hunter, Paul, Tancredo, Huckabee

DRAW: Mitt

LOSERS: Giuliani, McCain

I think Mitt had a minor melt down on the Bible (”do you believe every word”) question. Thompson got handed a bat to beat the hell out of Ruti over his support of the Clinton Assault Rifle Ban and whiffed it. McCain looked like even more of a pompous two faced jerk than he had before, Hard to believe I ever liked the guy. Tancredo was focused and sharp. Winners- Tancredo, Huckabee Draw- Thompson, Hunter

Winner: Huckabee. Giuliani wins too because he did ok, and because Huckabee won and Romney didnt do well.

Losers: Romney, Thompson. Thompson seemed nervous and tentative. Romney got painted as a flip flopper the whole night.

Big night for The Huckster, thats the story coming out of this debate imo.

I agree Thompson could have don a LOT better on the guns issue, but all in all I think he did well.

I agree on Huckabee and disagree on the rest. See #2 for my (admittedly biased and half-drunk) opinion.

From browisng the internet tonight it seems like the only thing most people agree on is that Huckabee did well. Some people say that for each of the other candidates, especially of Rudy, Romney and McCain. I didnt see much of anything about Thompson, except that he had a good joke.

Well have to wait for the analysis tomorrow, and for polls.

“We’ll have to wait for the analysis tomorrow, and for polls.”

*WE* are one hell of a lot better at analysis’s than the goons in the drive by media. I’m supposed to let a bunch of ding-dongs who thing Rooty is actually a conservative tell be who won? :-)
