A helicopter circled my house today five or six times and once was just hovering over it. We were just looking at each other. I have about fifty tomato plants in my backyard. He should have been able to see the tomatoes on the plants. So, a solid 15 minutes of this he takes off. So am I going to get a 4:00 AM no-knock door kicking?

At a town hall meeting on his campaign-style tour of the Midwest, President Obama claimed that his economic program "reversed the recession" until recovery was frustrated by events overseas. And then, Obama said, with the economy in an increasingly precarious position, the recovery suffered another blow when Republicans pressed the White House for federal spending cuts in exchange for an increase in the national debt limit, resulting in a deal Obama called a "debacle." "We had reversed the recession, avoided a depression, gotten the economy moving again," Obama told a crowd in Decorah, Iowa. "But over the last six months...

Tonya Harding's back and this time she's swinging at President Barack Obama. In an interview on HBO's "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel," the infamous Oregonian lashes out at Obama for talking about doing a "Tonya Harding" and "knee-capping" on the campaign trail in his fight against then U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton. "He has this country to think about .¤.¤. and he has to bring me up?" she says bitterly. "Guess what? I get jobs because he used my name on national television." So, strap on your knee pads and have a listen. But be aware there are some Tonyaesque expletives:...
  • Cure for killer bug - but there's a catch (Not for weak stomachs)

Cure for killer bug - but there's a catch KATE FOSTER IN THE annals of medical history, this could go down as one of the most effective but stomach-churning treatments ever devised. Scientists seeking a cure for a deadly superbug have successfully treated patients using human faeces. Trials in a Scottish hospital have shown patients suffering from the Clostridium difficile bug can be cured using 'donor stool' administered via a tube through the nose into their stomach. Clostridium difficile was last week at the heart of a damning report into cleaning failures at the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust...
  • The Ethics of Self-Prescription

Doctor Knows Best? The Ethics of Self-Prescription The most recent issue of JAMA reports the results of a study of self-prescription among residents in four leading internal medicine residency programs. There is ample evidence that practicing physicians commonly self-prescribe, but until now, little has been known about the practice among residents. Because residents work unforgiving and long hours, it is understandable that they would find it difficult to seek medical care for themselves. But it is just because of their status as physicians in training and their stressful workload that we ought to consider the wisdom of self-prescribing. What's your...
  • 'Tutoring' Rich Kids Cost Me My Dreams

For three years, I was an academic prostitute. I ruined the curve for the honest and ensured that the wealthiest, and often stupidest, students earned the highest marks. I was a professional paper-writer. It all started when I quit my journalism job in order to pursue my dream of being a singer-songwriter. I snagged a job tutoring inner-city foster children, but it didn't pay the bills. One day, I found a TUTORS WANTED flier on the UCLA campus. A small tutoring agency that serviced affluent families hired me. "Just sit at her computer and type for her," my boss advised...
