In this blistering segment of a TV panel discussion, the great Spanish traditionalist Miguel Ayuso expresses, more succinctly than one will find it anywhere else, the basic difficulties thoughtful Catholics have with the last Council in its origins, execution, and results. ...

[Catholic Caucus] Attacks on the Traditional Mass point to a rupture in understanding of the faith, and of the Mass itselfIf there is a 'rupture' between what some theologian thinks the Catholic faith is about, and what the Traditional Mass is about, that theologian has put himself on the wrong side of the dividing line.July 5, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – On Sunday July 3, the FIUV — the International Una Voce Federation — took out an advert in the Rome edition of the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, to make a statement about the Traditional Latin Mass. It points out:“The growth of...

In a recent video by the Jesuit magazine America, it is admitted that Vatican 2 and the New Mass of 1969 (Novus Ordo Missae) is a RUPTURE and that the Tridentine Catholic theology of the 16th century is no longer welcome by Modernist heresiarchs in the NewChurch. James Martin, Pope Francis, and the Jesuit complex infiltrating Rome don't want the Traditional Latin Mass for THEOLOGICAL REASONS. ...

Pope Disses TradsDubs US Catholicism 'alive' and wellThe Pope is again speaking out against traditional Catholics. In a meeting with American journalists Monday, Francis claimed U.S. Catholicism is thriving — but referred to traditional Catholics as a problem.Pope Francis: "It's a living Church, alive, alive. There are perhaps traditionalist groups in the United States, but they are here in the Vatican, too."Despite the Holy Father's remarks, evidence shows traditionalist Catholics — those loyal to the Traditional Latin Mass — are likely a vital part of the Church's future. Traditionalists follow Church teaching at much higher rates than U.S. Catholics in...

TLM strength yet again recognized by New York Times It is always encouraging to see mainstream media observe the beauty and vibrancy of the traditional Latin Mass and its communities. The New York Times, which has previously cited the strength of the traditional Latin Mass in France, has done so again, this time within an observation that churches there are the only places to hear live music during coronavirus shutdowns:Every Sunday, St.-Roch, known as the “church of artists,” celebrates a Tridentine Mass, the traditional Latin Mass that was standard until the introduction of services in vernacular languages in the...

“At first,” says Kansas City Chiefs Kicker Harrison Butker in an interview with EWTN, “it pushed me away. I was like…ah this is just, this is just not me. It doesn’t go with the world….it’s just like kind of old school traditional stuff. But then I think that also attracted me because it was so different from the world.” He’s talking about the traditional Latin Mass (TLM), a liturgy which the 23-year-old Butker not only attends, but at which he also regularly serves at the altar. “It’s opened my eyes to the tradition of the Faith. You know, with Saint...

First of all, today is the Feast Day of the Blessed Trinity, and so we would wish all of you a Happy Feast Day, and in particular we would wish the Eternal Father a Happy Father's Day! For those who are unaware or need to be reminded, belief in a Trinitarian God, that is Three Persons, One God, comes to us from our elder brothers and sisters in the faith, the Jews. The belief in the Trinitarian God as described is the universally accepted criteria to receive and accept the designation as a true Christian. So we Catholics should be...

A Path Back to Liturgical Sanity Whether they realize it or not, the Mass with which most Catholics are familiar, the one said in almost all Catholic Churches in the Western Hemisphere, is called the Novus Ordo, or more colloquially, the "new Mass." Many older Catholics may remember the Tridentine Mass, sometimes referred to as "the old Latin Mass," or the "Traditional Latin Mass (TLM)." More and more, however, young people are discovering the beauty of the Mass as it was known for hundreds of years before the wreckovation that occurred after Vatican II. While the Novus Ordo is a...
  • The 'Pope Francis Effect': The war on conservative Catholics in New York

When Cardinal Bergoglio was elected pope in 2013, many traditional Catholics were wary. Recently, their pessimism is being justified as "The Francis Effect" makes itself felt across the world and in America, most notably in the Archdiocese of New York. So-called "traditional" Catholics prefer to attend the Mass as it was celebrated before and during the Second Vatican Council (1962-5), before the liturgy was radically reformed in 1969. The Tridentine Mass, which was the ordinary form of the Mass from 1570-1969, is said in Latin, often accompanied by Gregorian Chant and incense, and emphasizes the sacrificial aspect of the Mass.

As the Rev. Justin Wylie took the pulpit at the Church of the Holy Innocents in Manhattan last month, anger and anxiety emanated from the pews. The church is the only one in New York City to offer a daily traditional Latin Mass, but an archdiocesan panel had recommended that it be closed. Father Wylie, a visiting priest, urged parishioners to be obedient but also to speak up, as traditionalist Catholics, for a place in the church, saying they should not be “turned out like squatters.”

“A voice in Rama was heard, lamentation and great mourning…” Those are the words of Jeremias the Prophet. St. Matthew’s gospel tells us that they foreshadow King Herod’s murder of Bethlehem’s infant males following the birth of Christ, who Herod feared might usurp his ill-gotten earthly throne. Holy innocents die for different reasons. In every generation. In every place. A church — a very special church — by that name is scheduled to die in Manhattan’s Garment District.

All of us who are traditional Catholics feel strongly about what is happening in the Catholic Church. What I mean is the strong progressive, modernist agenda of telling us to be silent about the intrinsic evil of abortion, homosexual activity, birth control, divorce and modesty. This agenda is being imposed on most Catholics.I bring this issue up, because these are extremely important moral issues that need to be addressed for the well being of our society. How can anyone ever be for the murder of the unborn babies? Any rational person, without prejudices, knows that abortion kills unborn human beings...

If you go to Rome, you can visit the Piccolo Museo del Purgatorio. Google it and look at some more of the very interesting pictures. People have come back from purgatory to burn their hand prints into prayer books, and clothing. Talk about proof of the fire of purgatory. Yet most people do nothing for the souls of our loved ones suffering there. So today we had a Holy Latin Requiem Mass for All Souls.

From the Bible we can see that the devil is real and active. Personally, I do not think that there is any other place where the spiritual battle is so intense and extreme, as when it comes to restoring Catholic Tradition. As we read in scripture about the devil asking Jesus to adore him, we know that the devil wants all of us to adore him instead of Jesus. If the devil can’t get us to adore him, he works on getting us to adore ourselves. In the Novus Ordo Mass we see so much anthropomorphic or man centered liturgies....

My wife and I went to the Tridentine Mass at Immaculate Conception Church(Sleepy Hollow, NY). It has been a very long time since a Mass brought us to tears. The prayers are beautiful, the reverence is palpable. The women had their heads covered, 90% of the men (and boys) wore jacket and tie, the priest's vestments were very traditional (when was the last time you saw a priest wearing a maniple and his biretta), a lot of young families, an altar boy (about 10 years old) and a fairly young priest, both of whom said the Latin prayers as if...

Ellie Arkin doesn't speak Latin, so upon entering Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Madison on a recent Sunday, the 21-year-old UW-Madison student opened a Latin-to-English translation book provided by the church. For the next hour, she and many of the other parishioners followed along in the book as the Mass unfolded mostly in Latin.... Latin Mass, also known as the Tridentine Mass, is distinguished by more than language. The priest faces the altar, which traditionally faced East, the direction from which Catholics believe Christ will return. This means the priest has his back to the people, which traditionalists view as...

MANILA, August 14, 2011— An exorcist has led a ritual outside the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Sunday to ask for God’s forgiveness for those who “dishonored the image of Christ.”Fr. Michelle Joe Zerrudo of the Diocese of Cubao said the prayer was being offered to compensate for whatever has been done to God by those behind the controversial art exhibit at the CCP.“This is an act of love for God to make up for the lack of love. This is not a political rally but simply a religions event,” Zerrudo said.“Regardless of what has been done, we...
  • Latin Mass Petition - Des Moines, Iowa

Hello Catholic FReepers. I have just created an online petition regarding the Latin Mass in Des Moines, Iowa. There is currently ONE Latin Mass celebrated in the entire Diocese of Des Moines; in the basement of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. The petition is asking to have the Mass moved up to the Sanctuary where it belongs. The petition states: We, the undersigned, appeal to Monsignor Frank E. Chiodo to move the Tridentine Latin Mass, currently celebrated in the basement of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Des Moines, Iowa, and restore it to its proper place, the main sanctuary of the...
