TALLADEGA, Alabama — It has been a little more than a week since NASCAR instituted a ban on Confederate flags at its facilities. That has led to at least one person publicly expressing their frustration before the now-postponed GEICO 500 at the Talladega Superspeedway. High above the track an hour prior to the scheduled start of the race was a plane with the Confederate flag and an accompanying message, “Defund NASCAR.” https://twitter.com/TMZ/status/1274802026270961665?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1274802026270961665&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.breitbart.com%2Fsports%2F2020%2F06%2F21%2Fplane-with-defund-nascar-confederate-flag-banner-flies-above-talladega-superspeedway%2F Last week, the series made the announcement after the sanctioning body’s top series only black driver, Bubba Wallace, voiced his support for a possible ban. Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Wednesday he was opposed to the state issuing a license plate featuring a Confederate battle flag, publicly declaring his position on the proposal for the first time. The Sons of Confederate Veterans applied for the Texas plate but opponents have called it highly offensive to African-Americans. The group is a national organization open to the male descendants of any man who served honorably in the Confederate forces during the Civil War.

WASHINGTON -- Back in the 2004 presidential primaries, when Howard Dean, former governor of Vermont, suggested that Democrats should be competing for the votes of young men with Confederate flags on their pickups, politicians from both parties rushed to accuse him of repeating a vile Southern stereotype: the redneck with antiquated views on race. < SNIP >''Howard Dean knows about as much about the South as a hog knows about Sunday," quipped Georgia Senator Zell Miller, the conservative Democrat who supported President Bush. ''Sure, we drive pickups, but on the back of those pickups, you see a lot of American...

If you were driving down the road and saw a black man carrying a Confederate flag, what would your reaction be? Many of us would have to admit that we would be surprised to say the least because the sight of a Confederate flag is likely to spark strong emotions. To some, the symbol represents a part of the honorable history of people who held high principles. To others, the flag represents only hatred and oppression. At times, these opposing viewpoints reach the forefront of discussion such as in the case of whether clothing depicting the Confederate flag is appropriate...
