The Fox News Decision Desk can project that Sheriff Joe Lombardo, a Republican, will become the next Governor of Nevada. He has unseated Democratic incumbent Steve Sisolak. The economy and inflation, education, crime, and the governor’s performance in dealing with the coronavirus pandemic were key issues in the gubernatorial campaign. Sisolak was elected governor in 2018 after spending nearly a decade as a Clark County Commissioner. Lombardo, after serving more than two decades in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, was elected Clark County Sheriff in 2014. Clark County covers just 7% of the Nevada’s land area, but holds nearly...

The police union’s announcement comes just days after Sisolak lost the endorsement of a top teachers union and just weeks before a high-stakes, extremely close gubernatorial election.

For the last year, Nevada Democrats have been warring with each other over the past and future of their party. Senator Harry Reid, the state’s most successful politician, built a Democratic machine in the late 1990s and early 21st century that dominated local and national races up and down the ballot. But the machine suffered some setbacks in 2018 and 2020, leaving an opening for radicals to take control. The Democratic Socialists of America took over the party, and the Harry Reid faction didn’t much like it. They’ve been at war ever since. The Washoe County Democrats declared their independence...

(AP) — Nevada's governor on Friday unveiled a proposal that would allow technology companies to establish jurisdictions with powers similar to those of county governments, arguing the state needed to be bold to diversify its economy and pushing back against those who have likened the idea to company towns. “This proposal is an exciting, unprecedented concept that has a potential to position Nevada as a global center of advanced technology and innovation, while helping to create immediate positive economic impact and shape the economy of the future,” Gov. Steve Sisolak said of his Innovation Zones idea. “As...

Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak’s (D) temporary, tighter new restrictions on the state’s gaming properties and restaurants — as well as other enterprises — could lead to some businesses closing, possible layoffs, and a slower economic recovery, according to a prominent local economist. Stephen Miller, director of UNLV’s Center for Business and Economic Research, warned that operating at 25 percent of capacity — rather than the current 50 percent — “will cause some businesses to close rather than continue to operate. They lose more by operating than by shutting down.” Sisolak’s directive announced on Sunday requires a capacity to be lowered...

Restrictions include a stronger mask mandate and new capacity limits [cut] According to Sisolak, Nevadans and visitors are required to wear a mask at all times, whether indoors or outdoors, when not in the presence of someone who is part of their household.
