Republican governors issue orders to stay home giving them a new and different name but first.... "We discussed with each other whether our rights can be taken by an order from a governor or an agency, and if they can be, what good are our rights?" Ammon Bundy spoke those words Friday following a Thursday night meeting in Emmett, Idaho in response to the "stay at home" order issued by Idaho's Republican Governor Brad Little.... In Iraq the United States has deployed two Patriot missile batteries and is expected to eventually deploy at least four.... The Saudi-led coalition staging air...

Controversial feminist author Jill Filipovic is preaching the “overwhelmingly negative consequences” of stay-at-home moms — and social media watchdogs are coming for her. Filipovic, 38, detailed her stance that these mothers create “worse, more sexist” men — and women who are “psychologically and emotionally worse off” — in a now-viral Twitter thread published on Tuesday. SNIP “The problem with paying people to stay home with kids, though, is that (1) we’re overwhelmingly not talking about ‘people,’ we’re talking about mothers; and (2) pushing women out of work comes with overwhelmingly negative consequences,” begins the thread by the outspoken author of...

Sonoma County is the first Bay Area county to restrict gatherings in response to the spread of the omicron variant in the region. On Monday, the county banned indoor gatherings of more than 50 people and outdoor gatherings of more than 100 people while asking residents to "stay home as much as possible for the next 30 days and limit interactions with those outside of their immediate household." “Our case rates are at their highest level since the pandemic began and our hospitalizations are climbing at an alarming rate as well,” health officer Dr. Sundari Mase said in a statement....

Several Florida teachers who received special permission to work from home due to coronavirus-related health concerns were found traveling and attending mass gatherings. At an arbitration hearing this weekend, Broward County Public Schools brought forward evidence—including pictures posted to public social media accounts—that teachers who were granted permission to work from home because of the coronavirus pandemic had attended parties and other crowded events last fall. One teacher flew to a wedding in Jamaica, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, and another took a selfie at an October rally for then-candidate Joe Biden. The hearing resolved a Broward Teachers Union...

We will never get out of this now. It will go on for ever. We will not be free people again. Even when we seem to be free we will be like prisoners on parole, who can be snatched back to their cells at a moment's notice. I think I now understand why this period has come to be known by the repulsive word 'lockdown', an American term which describes the punishment of rioting convicts in a penitentiary, by confining them to their cells for long periods. I hate this word, because it does not seem to be to be...

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Hundreds of protesters rallied outside the state Capitol on Saturday to protest against California's stay-at-home orders even as residents entered the Memorial Day weekend with newly expanded options for beachgoing, barbecuing and shopping. The rally to demand that Gov. Gavin Newsom lift his restrictions on business, religious gatherings and other activities took on the atmosphere of a political rally and festival on a closed-off street. California Highway Patrol officers closed the Capitol lawn to demonstrators, so speakers addressed the crowd from the back of a flatbed truck as an airplane flew above towing a banner with...

Here it is, Friday again…already. How can an entire week go by so quickly in such abnormal times? It’s a good thing it’s a long holiday weekend as I’ve reached my capacity for stupidity, lies, fake news, and mindless lockdowns. No, that’s not true; my capacity has been exceeded, by far. I’m now totally supportive of civil disobedience in any manner you deem appropriate. How ironic that we’re headed into a weekend holiday dedicated to the remembrance of those who gave their lives to defend the freedoms that up until now we’ve pretty much taken for granted. "Simply put, there...

In the history of expensive software mistakes, Mariner 1 was probably the most notorious. The unmanned spacecraft was destroyed seconds after launch from Cape Canaveral in 1962 when it veered dangerously off-course due to a line of dodgy code. But nobody died and the only hits were to Nasa’s budget and pride. Imperial College’s modelling of non-pharmaceutical interventions for Covid-19 which helped persuade the UK and other countries to bring in draconian lockdowns will supersede the failed Venus space probe and could go down in history as the most devastating software mistake of all time, in terms of economic costs...

In a crisis, flexibility is king, especially for those in the classroom. But union bureaucracy makes it impossible to innovate. As public school teachers with a combined 33 years of experience, we know we’re supposed to be “union strong” and never air unions’ dirty laundry. But the coronavirus crisis has pitted unions against teachers, students, and administrators who just want to teach and learn. Our fellow teachers have gone above and beyond to ensure students don’t slip through the cracks during quarantine. We’ve seen teachers furiously posting to message boards and offering one-on-one assistance to students via videoconferencing. From unions, however, we’ve...

It’s Sunday. Let’s play “transport me there” – your perfect place to enjoy a quiet day. It needn’t be real, just someplace you can visualize. Here’s mine: A couple of books, a thermos of coffee, a jug of water, a few pastries and a sandwich or two - you know you could stay here from sunup to sunset. Oh sure, you can hear the loons in the distance, but just ignore them for today. Where would you go to avoid the madness of it all? From MOTUS A.D.

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers said the state was the "Wild West" on Wednesday night after the Wisconsin Supreme Court blocked an extension of his stay-at-home order. The Democratic state leader told MSNBC that judges had created "chaos" in Wisconsin by voting 4-3 against the extension of state lockdown measures until May 26. Wisconsin Supreme Court judges ruled on Wednesday that his stay-at-home extension was "unlawful, invalid and unenforceable." The governor warned that there was "nothing compelling anyone to do anything" in Wisconsin as the novel coronavirus continued to spread across the U.S.

The mayor of LA has sent a terrifying warning to Angelinos that 'LA will never be completely open until we have a cure', one day after the county health director extended its lockdown by three months. Mayor Eric Garcetti gave a rambling interview with Good Morning America Wednesday in which he attempted to play down the lockdown extension through to August but sparked yet further confusion among angry residents over when it will reopen. Garcetti backpedaled on comments made by LA County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer on Tuesday. She had said stay-at-home orders in LA will 'with all certainty'...

It’s hump day. Olympic National Park, Washington (Currently closed due to Wuhan Cooties)Of course it’s just one hump after another these days. Do your best to enjoy the gloriously humpy ride. If life were simply a long, straight ribbon of highway we would no doubt have very boring lives.Purportedly a blessing, the Chinese saying “may you live in interesting times” is actually intended as a curse, as anyone who has lived those “interesting” times can attest. Make no mistake, the Chinese intent is to curse us. The Left just hasn’t figured that out yet; when and if they ever do...

A conservative justice on Wisconsin’s Supreme Court is questioning whether Democratic Gov. Tony Evers’s stay-at-home orders are the “definition of tyranny.” Evers issued his first stay-at-home order on March 24 and then extended it on April 16. It is currently set to expire on May 26, but a case brought by Republican legislative leaders could scale it back immediately. "My question for you is, where in the constitution did the people of Wisconsin confer authority on a single, unelected Cabinet secretary to compel almost 6 million people to stay at home and close their businesses and face imprisonment if they...

We picked up a virus from China, as everyone knows. But that may not be the only “virus” we have absorbed from them. As we’ve previously reported, we also have some cities across the country employing Chinese drones to spy on people who may not be social distancing. Should we even ask what the Chinese get out of that “donation” to our police forces? But that’s not all. Have we also picked up their “snitch culture” in the process? In China, in every apartment building and in every block, there’s always at least one person who is the local Communist...

UPDATE (12 p.m. PT) – Gov. Kate Brown said on Friday a new study with 100,000 randomly selected Oregonians could shed light on how far the coronavirus has spread throughout the state and will help guide the state’s decisions to reopen the economy. It was one month ago the governor ordered everyone to stay home to help stop the spread of COVID-19. “But holy smokes, it feels a lot longer than that,” the governor said on Friday. At a press conference, Brown unveiled new details on how the state plans to expand COVID-19 testing and trace people who have been...

The country is beginning to open up again after the Great Wuhan Cootie Lockdown of 2020. It’s different state by state and while California and a handful of other states are maintaining their indefinite stay-at-home orders most states are taking a measured, toe-in-the-water approach such as Colorado’s new phase called “Safer at Home.” In state’s that have announced they are beginning to lift the bans it is still far from business as usual. Retail businesses might be allowed to do curbside pickup, bars and restaurants might be allowed to open – at 25% capacity. Businesses such as salons, dog groomers,...

Hundreds of angry demonstrators, some of them armed with rifles, stormed Michigan’s State House on Thursday to protest stay-at-home orders — terrifying lawmakers who wore bulletproof vests to protect themselves. The protesters forced their way into the Capitol in Lansing to urge Michigan officials to end a state of emergency as the Wolverine State continues to battle one of the worst COVID-19 outbreaks in the country. Thursday’s event reached a terrifying climax when Capitol police were forced to protect lawmakers as protesters tried to storm their way into the chamber, the Detroit Free Press reported.
