GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert, the holster-wearing Colorado restaurant owner recently elected to Congress, has received a permit to carry a gun in Washington, D.C. The chief of the District of Columbia police department said Thursday that Boebert has been granted a concealed-carry permit.

In total there were more than 21 million background checks conducted last year, compared to just over 13 million in 2019, and while there has been a steady increase yearly of around 8 percent, 2020 saw that significant jump. The FBI reported that it processed a record 39.7 million firearm background checks in 2020, the most of any year since the law enforcement agency started recording sales data in 1998. The Violence Policy Center (VPC) on Monday released a 39-page report about the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the National Rifle Association (NRA) and the gun industry as a whole.
