In December just before Christmas, Jason Vanderbrink, president of the ammunition manufacturing companies Federal, CCI, Speer, and Remington released a video statement on YouTube (see above, very interesting to say the least) that was meant to reassure buyers that efforts were underway to address the shortage of ammunition on retail shelves.
Vanderbrink was quick to the point stating, “I’m tired of the hate mail,” and “I’m tired of people showing up at our factories.” He quickly added that there has been a lot of misinformation on the Internet that his companies haven’t done enough to meet the demand.
The video really spells out the economic challenges of adding more ammo to the market. Sadly, they can’t just build a factory. Bummer.
I still think that the big buy-ups by fed agencies during the Obama years wasn’t a nefarious conspiracy to use it against us rather an artificially created shortage to prevent us from getting our hands on it.
Hate mail? Geez, I wouldn’t think they would get hate mail.
I can’t imagine Leftists writing hate mail to ammo manufacturers because they couldn’t meet demand, so it must be conservatives.
Ack! “But rather”, not just “rather”.
The demand has simply exceeded supply.
Building an ammo plant in the United States is exceedingly difficult because of regulatory burdens.
There are lots of conservatives who insist lack of ammo is a conspiracy, either to deprive them of ammo or to drive up prices.
Most of these people were unwilling to spend a few dollars to buy a personal stockpile when ammo was cheap.
I agree with him. However, there should be a full moratorium on sales to state and federal governments for a year.
Also there are mountains of ammunition and M1 Carbines around the world that our gutless Republican Congress should have allowed wholesale import of.
Even China is allowed to sell parts to the US military, infest government agencies and Universities, sell steel, electronics, everything under the sun.
But the one thing you cannot be a free traitor on is guns and ammunition.
The ammo shortage lies at the feet of Republican malfeasance.
And everybody talks about the ammo shortage. Nobody gets around to asking why the last year saw an absolute explosion of gun sales.
Will the JoBama federal agencies start buying up all the handgun ammo again?
It’ll be interesting to see in about a year how the industry looks.
Maybe bankrupt?
In order to judicially repeal the Bill of Rights, the Left must first disarm America, one way or another. The rights guaranteed in the first 10 Amendments are anathema to collectivism; those concepts cannot coexist in government. That’s why the history and importance of the BoR has been effectively excised from our education system. That said, I don’t believe leftist pols are responsible for the ammo or gun or reloading equipment shortages... yet. I am sure they are dreaming up ways to make it happen, through taxation, registration, buy-back programs, and other things. But the current shortage is simply demand exceeding supply.
I agree with most of your post.
I do think they have plans in place to tax us into oblivion and cancel all e-commerce for this industry.
A lot of people could make a fortune selling collections of ours right now. I have offloaded some stuff just because the money is too easy.
Those of us who are habitual plinkers should’ve seen this coming however. Even before Covid.
It’s very similar to the issue of “gun violence “. Focus is deliberately directed to the guns, magazines and ammo. Totally ignoring the question of the underlying problem with culture and lifestyle choices that are actually driving the violence. Nobody, in the media or politics, will dare touch on it.
A close friend has several thousand rounds of 9-mm but is constantly looking for more.
Last Monday he stopped into a Dunhams that had just received a shipment but he was limited to only 3 boxes. He called me about 11:30 a.m. so I took a drive over at 2:00 p.m. to see many cars parked and others driving in behind me. When I got into the firearms area, they were sold out of all the popular ammo........
I have about 13 boxes of steel cased 9-mm that I purchased 20 years ago but I can't shoot in any of the local indoor ranges because they don't allow steel bullets or steel casings, brass only.......
"Need" is subjective.
It is difficult for one person to quantify what another person "needs", once you get beyond the minimum for survival.
Terrific video of Vanderbrink in a factory; it was a version of voyeur porn to see all those components and finished rounds of ammo, gleaming away.
Thanks for posting this.
I do find it instructive that a bottleneck can be created very quickly and cheaply by whatever agency wants to do it: sequester those 3-cent primers and all the more expensive components become useless. Can’t get primers anywhere.
There was an article several days ago on a court that ruled it was unconstitutional to tax freelance writers.
Judge: Tax on freelance author is unconstitutional
Church taxes are considered unconstitutional. I suggest the argument could be made that the 2nd Amendment can't be taxed.
