Two American Airlines jet have had a minor collision on the runway at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport - just three months after a deadly crash near there. The Federal Aviation Administration said the wingtip of one aircraft struck another on Thursday afternoon. At least two members of Congress were aboard one of the jets. Nick LaLota, a New York Republican, said no-one was hurt when the wing of their stationary plane was "bumped" by another jet. Sixty-seven people died on 29 January when an Army helicopter collided in midair with a jetliner as it landed at the same airport.

A Delta Airlines plane carrying 136 people nearly collided with a military jet Friday afternoon in a loss-of-separation incident outside the same DC airport where a mid-air collision took the lives of 67 people in January. Delta Airlines Flight 2983 departed its gate from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport at 2:55 p.m. local time and was cleared for takeoff to Minneapolis-St. Paul around 3:15 p.m As the commercial plane headed south over the Potomac River, a group of four Northrop T38 Talon jets traveled west toward Arlington National Cemetery for a flyover. The Airbus A319 and the military jet crossed...

An American Airlines flight from Boston aborted its landing at Reagan National Airport in Washington, DC, Tuesday to avoid a plane departing from the same runway. “An air traffic controller instructed American Flight 2246 to perform a go-around at Ronald Reagan Washington National (DCA) Airport to ensure separation was maintained between this aircraft and a preceding departure from the same runway,” the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said in a statement. American Airlines said the flight landed “safely and normally” and described the move as standard operation to give the plane more time for the other plane to take off. “American...

Vital tracking technology inside an Army Black Hawk helicopter was turned off for 'no compelling reason' when it collided with a passenger plane over Washington DC last week. The Black Hawk was performing a routine training mission in an effort to renew 28-year-old Captain Rebecca M. Lobach's annual certification when it crashed into American Airlines Flight 5342 as it was making its final descent at Reagan National Airport just before 9pm on January 29. When the chopper went down, the Black Hawk's Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast was disabled - a system which shares an aircraft's position, altitude and speed, Sen. Ted...

On Saturday the US Army released the name of the pilot of the US Army Blackhawk helicopter that flew into a passenger jet landing at Reagan National Airport. The crash was on Wednesday. The third pilot’s name, Rebecca Lobach, was finally released on Saturday, three days later. All 64 passengers in the jet were killed. The three pilots in the Blackhawk helicopter also died in the explosive crash. Kristinn Taylor at The Gateway Pundit reported: After withholding at the request of the family the name of the female pilot killed in the mid-air collision Wednesday night between an Army Black...

snip We now have an answer to that question. What happened at the principal airport of the national capital was an accident that, as the new president put it in his initial reaction, should not have happened. He's entirely correct on that. A commuter jet and an army helicopter colliding above the airport is a disaster from the last century, rendered all but obsolete by the technological advances of the new millennium. But, as we learned, not quite obsolete. There is still a critical human element - and the control tower at Reagan National is not altogether reassuring on that...

The US Army helicopter involved in Wednesday's midair collision with American Airlines flight 5342 had been practicing for the event of an attack on the capital. Officials have confirmed that the three soldiers, who all perished, had been rehearsing a plan that involves the evacuation of the White House when their Black Hawk collided with the passenger jet just before 9pm on Wednesday night. Defense sources confirmed the nature of the training exercise to CBS News, after internet sleuths had floated a theory online that it was doing exactly what sources say. Theorists had flooded social media with claims that...

The low-altitude helicopter corridor that was in use at the time of this week’s fatal mid-air collision has indefinitely been shut down by the Federal Aviation Administration, an agency official tells CNN. The move is the most significant action taken by the FAA since an American Airlines regional jet and an Army Blackhawk helicopter collided midair on Wednesday night before plunging into the frigid Potomac River in clear weather. Sixty seven people were killed. The US Army UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter was using what’s known as helicopter Route 4, a specialized corridor utilized by law enforcement, medevac, military, and government...

A desperate search for survivors is underway after a military helicopter collided mid-air with a commercial plane near Reagan National Airport in Virginia Wednesday night. Flight 5342, a PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet operating for American Airlines and traveling from Wichita, Kan., collided with the military chopper while approaching Runaway 33 at the Washington airport around 9 p.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration. “I have called over to my counterparts at the White House, and I can confirm that President Trump has been made aware of this situation,” Press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox News’ Sean Hannity.

The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed to WTOP it is investigating a near collision that occurred Thursday morning at Reagan National Airport in Arlington, Virginia. Two passenger jets came within 400 feet of each other before controllers took last-minute evasive action and immediately stopped the two planes. It’s not clear why the jets were authorized to be on the same runway at the same time.

I have long been a believer that, in most cases, a private company will do a more effective and efficient job than any government agency charged with the same task. My recent travel experience solidified that belief. It all started out with a half-empty water bottle at Ronald Reagan National Airport just outside the District of Columbia. I had checked in the night before, checked my bag at the curbside when I arrived, and now had a full hour to go through security. With Congress gone since late July and much of the District emptied out until Labor Day, I...

Workers from nine U.S. airports are planning to block bridges, march through terminals and protest at airline headquarters during a day of civil disobedience on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The workers - a mix of cleaners, baggage handlers, fuelers and wheelchair attendants - will risk arrest at airports and other locations including the Mall, to bring attention to their campaign for better wages, the Service Employees International Union said. The actions are the latest in the airport workers' campaign for a $15-per-hour minimum wage, a benefits package and job protections. They're also protesting threats against their efforts to unionize....
