The owner of four pitbulls is facing a murder charge after his dogs mauled to death a 4-year-old boy in Detroit, Michigan. Geneke Antonio Lyons, 41, was charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter, and possessing dangerous animals causing death, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office. The vicious attack occurred last week as the boy and his mother were walking together down the street. Many dogs have been victims of breed-specific legislation (BSL) in the past, and no breed knows this better than the Staffordshire bull terrier breed. Purebreds, mixes or dogs with “block heads” get labeled as pit bulls, and media stories have sensationalized the supposed dangers of these dogs. Their owners have been fighting back for years and continue to advocate for them. CHICAGO (CBS) — A 57-year-old woman is killed after being attacked by a pit bull on Chicago’s far South Side. It happened near 101st and South Calhoun around noon Saturday. Police said when officers arrived at the scene, the dog charged at them. Both officers fired their guns killing the dog. The victim was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. An 8-month-old girl was bitten by a family pit-bull dog and died from her injuries Wednesday in Miramar, police said. The baby was in the care of a grandmother during the attack, Miramar Police Officer Yessenia Diaz said outside a home in the 2400 block of Kingston Drive. A 5-year-old boy has been mauled to death by two dogs at the home of a family friend in Southeast Texas. The Orange County Sheriff's Office said in a statement that the dogs attacked Tanner Smith on Sunday evening at the home in Vidor (VY'-dur). Tanner was taken to a hospital in Beaumont where he died. Authorities say the boy and his mother were visiting a friend. The mother thought her friend's father was outside watching the boy. BURLESON -- A 3-month-old boy who died Monday evening after being mauled by his father's dog had been asleep on a bed inside the house when he was attacked, police officials said Tuesday. Burleson police officers had been at the house in the 200 block of Linda Drive in connection with a domestic dispute between the infant's parents when the mauling occurred.
