A 5-year-old boy has been mauled to death by two dogs at the home of a family friend in Southeast Texas.
The Orange County Sheriff's Office said in a statement that the dogs attacked Tanner Smith on Sunday evening at the home in Vidor (VY'-dur). Tanner was taken to a hospital in Beaumont where he died.
Authorities say the boy and his mother were visiting a friend. The mother thought her friend's father was outside watching the boy. When the woman learned the father was not at home she went outside and found her injured son.

For some reason, that article didn’t say their breed.
Scottish Terriers?
(In before the Pit-Bull-and-related-breeds-are-nothing-but-misunderstood-loyal-fluff-balls-that-won’t-hurt-anyone-and-are-huggy-bears-for-toddlers-and-infants crowd.)
They did on the local news. Pits, as expected.
By the way, the kids birthday is today. He would have been 6.
Pit Bulls?
The worst breed. And they’re interbreeding with so many other kinds. Look at your local humane society pics. Over half are pit mixes.
I’ve had experience with them, not as an owner but as neighbor. They cannot be trusted.
Phillips said her grandson was with his mother, Ashley, at a friend’s home when the dogs attacked him.
She said he was bitten about 16 times, including a bite to the main artery in his neck.
His grandmother said the homeowner shot one of the dogs and the other was taken away by Animal Control
Chance are they were pits, but why sully a playful, friendly dog? /Again S
Prayers up.
5-Year-Old Boy Days Away From Sixth Birthday Mauled to Death

Tanner’s mother, who spoke in the background during a phone call, said he was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome and has had three open heart surgeries.
“He’s gone through so much in his life,” his grandmother said.
Sorry, I missed it. Apparently I’m not the only one.
I take the OT approach to this kind of crap.
If a person is injured by an animal, the owner is fined. Proportional to the kind of injury suffered.
If a person’s animals kill a person, the animal’s owner is put to death. Accidentally killed or deliberately killed by them. That tells you how high a regard God has both for human life, and for prematurely ending a human life.
Greathouse says it's devastating that her nephew's fight for life ended like this. The Kindergartener had already battled through several heart surgeries for a medical condition called hypoplastic left heart syndrome.
******
Sad for sure and
I’ve said it a million times and I’ll say it again, the only people who think they need those kind of dogs are the regular “one-inch-d*ck” types. Very insecure about their masculinity, so they need these dogs (and other things) to show how “tough” they are. God bless this poor child.
He’s with his Hero now. Prayers for the loved ones.
Liberals don’t believe in self defense with a gun, but are fine with self defense via pit bull (especially since pits so frequently kill children, whereas a properly maintained firearm never will). This isn’t surprising, given how much they hate personal responsibility.
re: “If a persons animals kill a person, the animals owner is put to death. Accidentally killed or deliberately killed by them. That tells you how high a regard God has both for human life, and for prematurely ending a human life.”
I totally agree that God has high regard for human life, but I think you are misunderstanding what the Old Testament scriptures teach. The passage in question is Exodus 21:27-29.
There are circumstances that had to be met to require the death penalty for the owner of animal that killed a person.
First, the animal had to have a history of attacking people. Whether these dogs had that history, I don’t know.
Second, the owner of a dangerous animal had to have neglected confining the animal and allowed the animal to get loose.
Were these dogs on the owner’s yard? It sounds like they were. The mother said she “thought” there was an adult/owner with her child and the dogs. Also, when the husband/owner came home, he put down the dogs himself.
It sounds to me, from the information given in the article, that the dogs were in their yard, but the mother made the fatal mistake of thinking there was supervision of the dogs and her son. I’m not trying to blame her, I’m just saying this was a tragic mistake. I cannot imagine her pain. I cannot imagine the pain of her friends.
But, unless there is more information given, I don’t see that the owner was deserving of the death penalty.
