WATERFORD, Mich. (WXYZ) - A newborn baby is in the hospital recovering from a pit bull attack that happened as his grandfather held him in a Waterford backyard.
Wally Mersino was holding his four-day-old grandson when the family dog, a pit bull mix named Floyd jumped up and bit the baby on the head. His fang tooth or something put a laceration on the head, I kicked the dog away and we rushed the baby in the house to stop the bleeding, says Mersino.
He says, the dog was sitting next to him on the back patio when all of a sudden without provocation, without warning, the dog jumped up and opened its mouth on the newborn.
The baby was rushed to the hospital, and Animal Control came and took the dog away. The newborn had several stitches and is expected to be released from the hospital as early as Thursday.
Mersino tells Action News, the family dog was put down Wednesday, and even though it was sad, he knows it had to be done.
Any photographs of the dog?
I don’t get it. A dog bites a human, or baby and we kill it quick. No second chances no rehab. A grown adult kills, beats, rapes a human or baby and we feed them for life in prison ? Do I have this right ? Why can’t we put down dangerous scum this quickly ?
When will people learn........................
I at least partially fault the family for this attack. What in the world are they doing allowing a proven vicious breed anywhere near a newborn? Yes, a proven vicious breed.
>>without warning<<
The warning was... IT WAS A PITBULL!!!
Thank God the little tyke is going to be okay, no thanks to the pitbull-owning parents/grandparents.
These people should be lucky their little one will be ok, THEN GET RID OF THE DARN DOG!
Really?
It would be the right thing to do.DRT
We read the stories and watch the news reports regarding the truth about pitbulls.
Story after story of people and children being attacked, shredded, and killed by pitbulls is all the information I need to decide whether this breed is dangerous. Thanks anyway.
No problem. You don’t have to ping me to tell me you’re ignoring information I post.
No, but I will anyway. I’m not into propaganda. Thanks anyway.
If you can know it’s propaganda without viewing and seeing it you wouldn’t need to read any news story. lol
I had already viewed and read the propaganda you’re posting from someone else. I’m not impressed with information from pro-pitbull sources. I’m more impressed by the huge number of stories about pitbull attacks. Unless, of course, you can prove that all these stories are false.
So are guns.
