Nineteen pro-life House Democrats signed a letter last week to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) expressing their opposition to any health care reform that includes abortion funding. “We cannot support any health-care reform proposal unless it explicitly excludes abortion from the scope of any government-defined or subsidized health insurance plan,” the letter read. Anti-abortion New York Democrats have affiliated with a group that includes party members from seven other states. The Rochester-based Democrats For Life of New York, which held a news conference in Albany Tuesday, is making the case that the Democratic Party has gone too far in embracing abortion rights. The group, which lists former Rep. John LaFalce, of Buffalo, among its members, also opposes the death penalty and euthanasia.
