The saga of the Anheuser-Busch promotional debacle continues to swirl, with mounting boycotts and a growing tide of counter-activism taking place. Ted Lieu and Adam Schiff posed with Bud Light bottles in hand, looking about as natural doing so as Dylan Mulvaney looks like a natural woman. (Seriously, I’d be more inclined to turn away from a brand due to a Ted Lieu endorsement than I would a dude cosplaying as an overcaffeinated high schooler.)

This beer is dirty! Pabst Blue Ribbon took a bizarre stance Monday against those abstaining from drinking this month, tweeting — and then deleting — “Not drinking this January? Try eating ass.” When someone on Twitter asked the company what the tweet against “Dry January” was about, it said “it’s about ass and eating it.” The tweet went viral, as users expressed their shock the official brand would use such crass language to discuss those trying to cut back their alcohol intake in the New Year.

Pabst Brewing Co. made the announcement in an Instagram post Monday. The owner of the iconic local brand said the decicion came afer a decline in the beer's sales. Pabst Brewing Company and MillerCoors are going to trial, with hipster favorite Pabst contending that MillerCoors wants to put it out of business by ending a longstanding partnership through which it brews Pabst’s beers. The case has high stakes for Pabst, whose lawyers argue that the company’s very existence relies on the partnership with Chicago-based MillerCoors, which produces, packages and ships nearly all its products, which include Pabst Blue Ribbon, Old Milwaukee, Natty Boh and Lone Star. MillerCoors, meanwhile, says it’s not obligated to continue brewing for Pabst and that Pabst doesn’t want to pay enough to justify doing so....

NEW YORK — The maker of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer is being sold to Russian company Oasis Beverages for an undisclosed sum. Oasis is buying Pabst with TSG, an investment firm known for its work with consumer products companies. TSG Consumer Partners will take a minority stake in Pabst. In addition to its namesake beer, Pabst Brewing Co. makes Colt 45, Old Milwaukee and Schlitz, in addition to regional brews such as Lone Star, Rainier and Old Style. Pabst was acquired in 2010 by C. Dean Metropoulos & Co., which is known for investing in food brands, including Twinkie maker...

A Russian beverage company said on Thursday that it was acquiring the Pabst Brewing Company, which makes the Pabst Blue Ribbon beer popular with barflies and hipsters alike and other brands like Colt 45 and Old Milwaukee. [snip] The buyer is Oasis Beverages, a Russian brewer and beverages distributor. Backing Oasis is TSG Consumer Partners, an American private equity firm focused on consumer goods, which will take a minority stake. “Pabst Blue Ribbon is the quintessential American brand – it represents individualism, egalitarianism and freedom of expression – all the things that make this country great,” Eugene Kashper, the chairman...

The Discovery Channel found South Chicago Heights yesterday. A television crew from Discovery was in town to film a piece for a program called "Outrageous Final Wishes." The focus was on Bill Bramanti, who in 2008 had a coffin designed to look like a Pabst Blue Ribbon beer can. The episode featuring Bramanti is expected to air toward the end of the year. "In 2004, I had, I believe it was my fourth heart attack," Bramanti said. "And it was a good one." Bramanti figured he would make things easier for his family by making his final arrangements in advance....

MILWAUKEE It's the beer that made Milwaukee famous. Now Schlitz is making the city nostalgic. That beer with the old-time mystique is back on shelves in bottles of its original formula in the city where it was first brewed more than a century and a half ago. Schlitz was the top-selling beer for much of the first half of the 20th century, but recipe changes and a series of foul-ups made the beer - in many a drinker's opinion - undrinkable, turning what was once the world's most popular brew into little more than a joke. But after decades of dormancy,...

(Pabst touts ascent to No. 1 American-owned beer maker) Pabst Brewing Co. doesn’t operate breweries anymore, but it wants to be the first choice for every red-blooded American beer drinker. The company, which owns dozens of beer brands and contracts with MillerCoors LLC to create most of its brews, is staking its claim as the largest remaining American-owned beer maker. Just days after industry giant Anheuser-Busch Cos. announced its sale to InBev, a European brewer, Pabst is conducting an online survey, asking customers about it. “Did you know that after this sale is completed, Pabst Brewing Company will be the...

SANTA FE— About a dozen motorists phoned to warn police Saturday evening that a pickup truck was headed the wrong way on Interstate 25. But Santa Fe Sheriff Greg Solano said there simply was not enough time to stop drunken driver Dana Papst from crashing his truck head-on into a minivan and killing five members of a Las Vegas, N.M., family [and himself]. One caller reported that she had just seen a Dodge truck make a U-turn on the interstate near the Eldorado exit east of Santa Fe and head the wrong way in northbound lanes, according to tape recordings...

SANTA FE— US Airways, which served Dana Papst liquor hours before he plowed his pickup into a Las Vegas, N.M., family's minivan, has been ordered to stop serving alcohol on any flights in and out of New Mexico. On Monday, the state Regulation and Licensing Department hit US Airways with a cease-and-desist order [because] the airline did not have a license to serve alcohol in New Mexico. The state DPS also issued US Airways an administrative citation for selling alcohol to Papst while he was intoxicated. In a related move, Gov. Bill Richardson said in a news release that he...

SANTA FE— A freeway collision that killed five members of a Las Vegas, N.M., family claimed a sixth victim Sunday— the drunken driver who hit them head-on. A blood test drawn at the University of New Mexico hospital showed that driver Dana Papst had a blood-alcohol content of 0.32 percent, four times the state's presumed level of intoxication, Santa Fe County Sheriff Greg Solano said. Records show Papst had been arrested for DWI at least five times in Colorado, Solano said. Papst, 44, of Tesuque, crashed into the Gonzales family's minivan shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday on I-25 just north...

Beer historian explores what happened to famous brews like Schlitz, Rainier, Schmidt and National. Chicago, IL (PRWEB) September 8, 2006 -- Using Chicago as a backdrop, leading beer historian Bob Skilnik delves into the reasons why once favorite national and regional beer brands have faded in popularity, some banished to obscurity. BEER: A History of Brewing in Chicago ($24.95, Hardcover, 416 pages, Barricade Books, ISBN 1569803129), proves to be more than a regional history book as it also details the downfall of national breweries like Schlitz and Pabst, to once powerhouse regionals with their flagship brands such as Seattle’s Rainier,...

At first glance, it seems like selling popcorn at the opera. Pabst Brewing Co., makers of the bargain beer Pabst Blue Ribbon, is underwriting on NPR. Pabst, a brand not immediately associated with NPR’s high-falutin’ reputation, is sponsoring broadcast programming and NPR’s online music series “All Songs Considered.” But Pabst’s move, which earns the brand a mention on some NPR shows, might actually be an example of well-positioned, cost-effective marketing. “Pabst Blue Ribbon (has) built this currency of hipness,” said Eric Shepard, executive editor of trade publication Beer Marketer’s Insights. That “hipness” was built by accident as the college crowd...

Pope's old car smashes eBay records 10:00 PM May 5 Bidding for Pope Benedict XVI's old Volkswagen, on offer on eBay Germany, has topped 100,000 euros (at 9:10pm AEST). That is 10 times the price the current owner paid for it. The page on the Internet auction website has so far registered 6.3 million hits, far more than any other item ever advertised. The bidding for the metallic grey 1999 Golf IV in mint condition started at 9,999 euros. That is the price Benjamin Halbe, 21, bought it for in January from a used car dealer. He had no idea...

MILWAUKEE-November 10, 2004 — When Pabst Brewing Co. abruptly closed its headquarters here in 1996, the owner and its workers left behind a treasure trove of relics dating back to the brewer's 1844 origin. A yellowed visitors' registry and vintage photographs uncovered in a basement storage area of the former brewing complex provide a link to the rich heritage of Pabst, once the nation's largest brewer. A calendar on the wall in one corporate office is still turned to December 1996, when the brewing era came to a halt at the 22-acre complex. Dusty ornaments hang on an artificial balsam...

Watching politicians court the Bubba vote will make this political season worth the price of admission. Male rednecks are the new soccer moms, according to presidential campaign strategists. Pundits believe this maligned and misunderstood voter subgroup — more politely dubbed NASCAR Dads — holds the key to winning vital Southern states. They may even move the needle in places like Michigan, where redneck roots run deep. Spotters will be looking for pickup trucks instead of minivans this time around. Witness the recent battle between Democratic presidential contestants Howard Dean and Dick Gephardt over their Bubba credentials. Dean claims he can...
