MILWAUKEE
It's the beer that made Milwaukee famous. Now Schlitz is making the city nostalgic. That beer with the old-time mystique is back on shelves in bottles of its original formula in the city where it was first brewed more than a century and a half ago.
Schlitz was the top-selling beer for much of the first half of the 20th century, but recipe changes and a series of foul-ups made the beer - in many a drinker's opinion - undrinkable, turning what was once the world's most popular brew into little more than a joke.
But after decades of dormancy, the beer is back.
Schlitz's owner, Pabst Brewing Co., is re-creating the old formula, using notes and interviews with old brew masters to concoct the pilsner again. The maker of another nostalgic favorite, Pabst Blue Ribbon, hopes baby boomers will reach for the drink of their youth, otherwise known as "The Beer That Made Milwaukee Famous."

ASSOCIATED PRESS PHOTOGRAPHS Leonard Jurgensen, a "Schlitzstorian," surveys his collection of Schlitz beer bottles in his Oconomowoc, Wis., home. A fresh supply of bottles is back on the shelves now that Pabst Brewing Co. is bringing back the one-time best-seller in its original formula.

I don’t remember, from the days when I occasionally drank beer, that Schlitz tasted like anything any different from the bottled urine called Budweiser. In the age of microbreweries , all of them producing GREAT beer, these “ballpark” beers require nothing so much as LOW price to sell themselves. The only European beer that stood up to my palate was Heineken’s. The only American produced beer that was worth trying now and then is still
available, I think only in the Midwest, and it is called
Heilemann’s Old Style.

What year was it that Liberals took over Schlitz?

When I think of Schlitz, I think of their Malt Liquor and the adverts for it.

Good ol’ MST3K. Damn, I miss that show. Thanks to DVD box sets and You Tube I can watch any episode from any season.
By the way, how long before this thread has references to the Vessel with Pestle and the Flagon with the Dragon?

I tried a Natty Boh the other night...it tasted like the beers my dad used to drink when I was but a wee tot (he’d let me take a swig when mom wasn’t looking.) Dad-n-hubby agreed with me on its nostagic appeal.
