Fox & Friends apologized on Monday after briefly airing a graphic suggesting that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is dead. As the show came back from commercials, they briefly showed a graphic of Ginsburg with the caption 1933-2019. Gov. Bruce Rauner today signed into law a bill declaring Aug. 4 “Barack Obama Day,” effective in 2018. Senate Bill 55 passed through both chambers of the General Assembly without a single dissenting vote. The bill would only make Aug. 4 an honorary holiday and not a legal holiday, unlike an earlier proposal. The first attempt to create Obama Day in the state failed in March by six votes in the House. That plan, which would have made the day a legal holiday, was estimated to cost Illinois taxpayers nearly $20 million in lost productivity and state employee personnel costs...

Lightning has broken a finger off the right hand of Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro. Father Omar, rector of the shrine that holds the statue, told the Globo radio station that lightning frequently strikes the nearly 100-foot tall statue, a symbol of Rio that overlooks the Brazilian city from the peak of the Corcovado mountain. Its right hand had been damaged sometime ago, but the finger finally broke off in a storm late Thursday.

Ted Kennedy was taken out of the Statuary Hall luncheon after suffering an apparent seizure -- a few minutes after Sen. Robert Byrd was removed in his wheelchair under the supervision of medical personnel. Byrd was conscious and had been having trouble eating, according to a witness.
