Recently, the April issue of N. Korean photo magazine "Chosun" reported that a boy triplet were named 'chong, pok, tan'(translator's note: chong-pok-tan means 'gun-and-bomb', chong means a gun, pok-tan means a bomb. As a separate syllable, pok means explosion, and tan means a shell) It was featured as an example of a loyalty oath to Kim Jong-il, in the spirit of 'defending the General(Kim Jong-il) to death.' 'Chong-pok-tan' is a typical slogan for promoting Kim Jong-il worship. The slogan implies the readiness to sacrifice oneself for Kim Jong-il as his 'gun-and-bomb'(chong-pok-tan.) According the magazine, the triplet are Chung Chong-il, Chung Pok-il, and Chung Tan-il, who are attending Changdo Elementary School in Kimhwa Country, Kangwon Province(, N. Korea.) The brothers were born in July, 1994, and are an identical triplet. They were at critical condition at birth. Their mother gave birth in 8th month. The youngest, Tan-il, weighed only 1.5kg(3.3pound) Upon hearing the news of their birth, Kim Jong-il highlighted Kim Il-sung's words, "The birth of a triplet is an omen that the country's fortune would rise," and sent a military helicopter to airlift the triplet and their mother back to the maternity hospital in Pyongyang. N. Korean authorities claim that 4 quadruplets and 333 triplets were born at Pyongyang's maternity hospital since its opening in Mar., 1980. However, one cannot help suspect that they manufactured the statistic made out of 4's and 3's. The triplets, who owes "boundless gratitude" to Kim Jong-il, were named 'Chong-il, Pok-il, and Tan-il.' Thanks to their names, they appear to have no choice but to become Kim Jong-il's 'gun-and-bomb'(chong-pok-tan.) It is an outrage that Kim Jong-il even plays with kid's names for his propaganda. On the bright side, we are glad to see healthy N. Korean kids with pinky cheeks. We hope they stay healthy until the freedom comes in N. Korea, good times finally arrive, and their parents would rename them with nice normal names.

Ping!
Bizarre. Thanks for the ping!
Humor certainly is strange in North Korea.
Did he name them or did the mother?
Good thing I had a daughter. My wife didn't like any of those names.
Call me crazy, but are those kids wearing makeup?
"'Gun, Explosion, Shell'
How cute
I think that it is not the parents' choice. I think the Party(or Kim Jong-il) name them.
In that one pic, where they're in the room with the tv, it looks like they have white powder on their faces.
Considering this is N. Korea, that cannot be ruled out. Who knows?
To be fair, it could be lighting on their faces.
Don't think so. Looks like they may have vitiligo.

You see the makeup on the kids' and mom's faces in that bottom photo? Must be training them to invade Russia or something.
Don't tell me Little Kim name these kids could be that one of Little Kim mistress gave birth to triplets LOL!
Is it really so much worse than Wolf Blitzer?
I once drank a shot of Soju dropped in a beer called "Pok-tan-ju" in Son-Dri.
I liked Korea and the people. I still love the food!
