HILLSBORO, Ohio – As publisher and editor of the Times-Gazette, a small daily newspaper in this southwest Ohio town (pop. 6,600), I thought our endorsement of Donald Trump for president last year seemed innocuous enough. Then someone said to me, “Did you see that Rachel Maddow mentioned the Times-Gazette last night?” Seriously? Next, Politico called. I soon discovered that our two-sentence endorsement was being reported — and often ridiculed — far and wide. The nearby Cincinnati Enquirer produced a post headlined “This Ohio paper is one of only six to endorse Donald Trump.” Not one of six in Ohio —...

George Nathaniel Stang, 26, stands accused of a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief, after confessing that it was he who spray painted homophobic, pro-Nazi and pro-Trump graffiti last November, including a swastika, on the church where he was the organist. When confronted by police, Stang — who is gay — reportedly admitted to staging the vandalism and wrote in a handwritten statement to police that he did it to “mobilize a movement” ....

Wouldn’t you want to know? That’s the question I’ve been asking since well before the last election took place. The President has made the claim that millions of non-citizens, either of the legal or illegal varieties, cast ballots in the 2016 race. (Presumably for Hillary Clinton for the most part.) That total number remains in dispute for good reason, but the fact that non-citizens have voter registration cards and in some cases are actually showing up to vote has never really been in dispute, despite what you regularly hear from Democrats and cable news personalities. Further proof of this reality...

Donald Trump claimed some measure of political revenge against Ohio Gov. John Kasich for shunning his presidential campaign, after helping oust a key Kasich loyalist from atop the state Republican party. Trump threw his support behind Jane Timken, who on Friday narrowly defeated Ohio GOP Chairman Matt Borges. The president-elect even got personally involved, calling members of the 66-person Central Committee to lobby on Timken's behalf. "At first I thought it was a fake phone call," Cincinnati-area committee member Greg Simpson told Cleveland.com. "Then all of the sudden, he's talking to me."

Arizona – -(Ammoland.com)-On Monday, 19 December, 2016, Ohio Governor John Kasich signed SB 199, a gun law reform bill. SB 199 does away with gun free zones at airports outside the secure area, school “zones” away from actual school property, and some public buildings. It allows schools of higher education more leeway in setting their own policies. From toledoblade.com: Senate Bill 199 would lift the state’s current ban on carrying concealed firearms in day-care centers, airport terminals, school safety zones, and certain government buildings and would give public colleges and universities the authority to allow weapons on campus. SB 199...

State Rep. Christina Hagan, R-Marlboro Township, indicated that she will resign as a presidential elector after two residents over the weekend filed an emergency lawsuit alleging that the Ohio Constitution prohibits a state legislator from serving as a presidential elector. “It is unfortunate that the extreme left has engaged in what is the most obvious display of partisan and extreme political bullying that can occur,” said a post on Hagan’s Facebook page late Sunday night. “I however will gladly resolve any potential frivolous lawsuits from moving forward by resigning my opportunity to Chair and cast a vote as a member...

Kasich is increasingly seen as the most acceptable Republican alternative to electors on both sides of the aisle, according to multiple electors familiar with the conversations. They note that Kasich defeated Trump in Ohio's primary, that the governor boasts a high approval rating in his state and that Kasich was reportedly under consideration to be Trump's vice president before he selected Indiana Gov. Mike Pence.

Columbus Ohio. Gov. John Kasich, who refused to endorse Donald Trump or even participate in the Republican National Convention in Cleveland where he was nominated, will not join the president-elect today as he takes a victory lap in Cincinnati. “No, the event is not on his calendar,” said Kasich press secretary Emmalee Kalmbach. Instead, Kasich has meetings scheduled in Columbus as he prepares his upcoming two-year state budget proposal, she said.

President-elect Donald Trump is set to embark on a tour to thank supporters who carried him to the White House. A source in the Trump camp confirmed to NBC News Tuesday that Trump's "Thank You Tour" is set to begin on Thursday with a rally in Cincinnati. During the campaign, Trump's rallies often drew thousands of people and were often broadcast live. Trump won Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Florida, states won by President Obama in 2008 and 2012.

An Oregon bureaucrat who waged political jihad against the owners of a Christian bakery was given the heave-ho by voters. Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian was defeated by Republican Dennis Richardson in his bid to be Secretary of State. It's the first time a Republican has been elected to a statewide office in Oregon since 2002. So consider this – Avakian was too liberal for what is arguably one of the most liberal states in the country. Avakian, a passionate advocate for the LGBTQIA crowd, was thrust into the national spotlight when he declared war on a Christian bakery in 2013.

Congratulations to Democrats on a very successful turnout effort, I guess. As hard as this is to believe given how highly touted the Clinton GOTV effort was, it makes some sense once you realize where the fatal error probably lay. Democrats assumed that white women and working-class whites who had voted for Obama would stick with Clinton this time for the most part, especially in the Rust Belt. Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania were part of the blue firewall, weren’t they? Well, there you go. No need to even visit Wisconsin. Their loyalty was taken for granted. So when the time...

Ohio Gov. John Kasich's apparent plans to quickly insert his voice into the recrafting of the Republican Party have been scuttled. Kasich had planned to speak Thursday at the American Enterprise Institute, a public policy think tank, in Washington D.C., sources close to the governor said Tuesday. But, the speech was canceled today in the wake of President-Elect Donald Trump's upset victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton, a source said.

The lights were bright. The beats were pumping. And the backup dancers were wearing blue pantsuits. After raucous performances from Beyoncé and her husband, rapper Jay Z, Hillary Clinton had one simple message for the packed, cheering crowd at Cleveland’s Wolstein Center: “Help us win Ohio.” Clinton’s campaign is turning to a series of free concerts to appeal to young and minority voters not necessarily motivated to vote for her.

Lawyers for Democrats around the country are filing lawsuits claiming Republicans and the campaign of GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump are pushing supporters to intimidate and confront voters on Election Day. Trump has called on his supporters to act as "election observers" in certain areas of the country to help prevent fraud. In Ohio, a federal judge on Friday issued a temporary restraining order against Trump's campaign and his friend and informal adviser, Roger Stone, barring them from harassing or intimidating Ohio voters during Tuesday's election.

The Governor of Ohio, John Kasich, has stuck by his promise not to vote for Donald Trump and plumped instead for 2008 GOP nominee, Senator John McCain. Kasich dropped out of the race for the White House himself in May after winning only one primary - in Ohio - and said in June he would not be voting for Trump unless he had some sort of 'biblical conversion'. True to his word Kasich, voting by absentee ballot, confirmed this week he had voted for Senator McCain as a write-in candidate.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich wrote in Sen. John McCain for president, the GOP’s 2008 nominee, on his absentee ballot this year. Chris Schrimpf, the governor's political spokesman, confirmed the write-in vote to cleveland.com and said Kasich voted straight-ticket Republican on the rest of his ballot. Schrimpf added that Kasich was comfortable picking McCain, the 2008 GOP nominee for president, over Trump, Democrat Hillary Clinton and Libertarian Gary Johnson, a former Republican on the ballot as a nonpartisan candidate. The vote essentially is a symbolic gesture. Because McCain is not among the 18 certified write-in candidates in Ohio, Kasich's vote for president will...
