Oopsie: Hillary’s ground game might have ended up turning out … Trump voters

Congratulations to Democrats on a very successful turnout effort, I guess.

As hard as this is to believe given how highly touted the Clinton GOTV effort was, it makes some sense once you realize where the fatal error probably lay. Democrats assumed that white women and working-class whites who had voted for Obama would stick with Clinton this time for the most part, especially in the Rust Belt. Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania were part of the blue firewall, weren’t they? Well, there you go. No need to even visit Wisconsin. Their loyalty was taken for granted. So when the time came to call the troops onto the battlefield, the call went out — without fully realizing how many of them had already switched sides.

Volunteers for the Clinton campaign in Pennsylvania, Ohio and North Carolina have reported that when reminding people to vote, they encountered a significant number of Trump voters. Anecdotal evidence points to anywhere from five to 25 percent of contacts were inadvertently targeted to Trump supporters.

This is a big deal because when voters are engaged by a volunteer they are significantly more likely to cast a ballot in an election. To make matters worse, because Republicans had a non-existent ground game in many areas this cycle, this powerful reminder from a Clinton volunteer to get out and vote might have been the only personalized GOTV communication these Trump voters received.

The campaign’s text messaging GOTV effort may have been the worst offender. Volunteers reported as many as 30% of the replies they received from voters they were urging to get out were Trump supporters.

Her ads also probably made people vote for him too. Especially this one.

That was a great ad, exactly why so many voted for Trump. I was hoping it was that one when I saw the link.

Someone posted on election day that everyone contacted who was a Trump supporter should keep quiet about it and let the Clinton people give them a ride to the polling place if it was offered to them.

To know her is to love her, or rather, the opposite of that. Her best campaigning was when she was out of sight and out of mind.

You mean a ride to multiple voting places?

Yup...we live in Tampa Bay and saw that ad 1,000 times. My wife said it first time she saw it...reminded her of Benghazi and Libya/Syria in general. The more they ran the ad, the more people agreed with Trump’s attacks on her!

Her campaign team is turning out to be very inept and arrogant. Podesta, Palmieri, Mook, Fallon, Benenson and of course HUMA!!. Not a ounce of common sense among them all.

Imagine not one campaign visit to Wisconsin. And probably the biggest mistake of all...having Obama campaign for her in important swing states. Obama has NEVER helped anyone’s
campaign...the GOP has made incredible gains in the House and Senate, the state governors and state houses and senates...all while Obama was the DNC cheerleader.

Proof...in Wi, PA and MI, if Clinton had gotten the same share of the AA vote in the largest city/county in each state.....she would have won each state. Obama couldn’t even rally his own base for her.

I also give a lot of credit to Michael Moore and the great snippet of video that was provided.

It was on constantly here in MA too. And if I heard it I would run into the room to hear Trump say “and you can tell them to go **** themselves!” I cracked up every time!!

Not trying to take credit for this in anyway, but I've been saying it for weeks: A huge amount of democrats are going to vote for Trump!

Here's what I said on Monday: #21

Emerson State Polls.

One other thing.

How many democrats will wind up voting for Trump? Perhaps, if polled, they don’t want to say, being traditional generational democrats, but will vote for Trump secretly. That also is a great unknown, but I think there could be hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions of voters like this.

I’m in a heavy R county on the west side of Michigan. I have no history of D activities.
Nonetheless, I got a Dem robocall from Obama Monday night reminding me to vote on Tuesday.

Although I got a couple of calls earlier about Trump appearances in Michigan in the final 2 weeks, I got no GOTV calls from the Republicans.

I figured then that Hillary’s GOTV activities were being badly mis-managed, and they were getting Trump voters out to the polls. With only a 12,000 vote margin to Trump here in Michigan, it could have made the difference.

THAT is pure BS! We had a yuge GOTV...I was part of it! We were making phonecalls to Michigan past 7:30 pm on election day. Such nonsense!

Go look at the RCP polling for Wisconsin. 6 or 7 point lead for Hillary. One of the great polling errors of all time. So Hillary wasn’t alone.

I’m really felling good. Just hoping sleeping returns to normal soon. I can’t stop dreaming about the bullet that we just dodged.

The Real America is back.
We missed you.

So George Soros and the Muslim Brotherhood paid the Clinton Foundation, who paid the Clinton campaign, who paid the GOTV teams to end up bringing out Trump voters to the polls in the states that made the difference. Now that’s business!

this ad played extensively in SF Bay. i did not think it was particularly flattering to trump, and it scared me to contemplate how much negative reinforcement about trump that it contained. (in any case, glad to see that it worked out in the end.)

Agreed. I thought some of Hillary’s anti Trump ads were helpful to the Donald, especially this one.
