Daniel “Danica” Roem, the first “transgender” state representative in U.S. history, won election to a new office last November and shared in a recent interview his intention to be sworn into the Virginia Senate with his hand on a heavy metal album rather than the Bible, as is tradition.Roem, a male Democrat who identifies as a woman, defeated incumbent Republican Bob Marshall for his seat in the Virginia House of Delegates in 2017, an upset celebrated by LGBT activists. When you play in a world-conquering, gazillion-selling band of Metallica's stature, you're bound to attract a few oddball fans over the course of your career. Still, the metal titans' most unexpected devotee is quite a doozy: Richard Ramirez, the '80s serial killer known as the Night Stalker. Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett said Ramirez — the serial killer, rapist and burglar who embarked on a Los Angeles crime spree from 1984-85 and was sentenced to death in 1989 — was incensed when he heard the band performing at San Quentin State Prison in 2003, where they filmed their "St. Anger" music...

Metallica frontman James Hetfield has spoken of how he’s “sceptical” of getting the coronavirus vaccine. Speaking in a new interview, Hetfield was asked about the prospect of Metallica touring again soon, and how they would make potential live shows safe for fans. “I have no clue,” he told The Fierce Life podcast. “It’s not up to me. It really is up to the safety of everyone — not just the fans, but the crew and us. “I’m not sure what that means in the future as far as vaccines. I’m a little skeptical of getting the vaccine, but it seems...

“Bang that head that doesn’t bang.” – R. Burch ‘83 Thus reads the quote on the back sleeve of Metallica’s debut album Kill ‘Em All, which was released on July 25th, 1983. It stands as one of the earliest documents of thrash metal, a pivotal album that explored artistic extremes and set the foundational archetypes of thrash as a sound, image, and lifestyle. At a time in heavy music when record labels were starting to embrace super-produced glam-metal bands that would go on to dominate radio and MTV for the remainder of the decade, Metallica literally said: “Metal up your...

The American rock band Metallica has surprised fans in Moscow by performing a song in the Russian capital by the late Soviet-era rock star Viktor Tsoi. In the middle of the concert at Moscow's Luzhniki Sports Stadium on July 21, the group's bassist Robert Trujillo and lead guitarist Kirk Hammett suddenly started performing one of Tsoi's most popular songs -- Gruppa Krovi (Blood Type). They sang the song in the Russian language. The group's fans started singing the song together with Metallica. Tsoi and his group, Kino, were extremely popular in the Soviet Union during the late 1980s. His songs...

Nick Sandmann was brutally maligned by the media for doing absolutely nothing wrong and the same gutless and stupid media fawned over the Vietnam fraud and liar Nathan Phillips. Sandmann and his family have received death threats. The kid was brave enough to subject himself to an interview by that blithering idiot Savannah Guthrie who then did her best to make Sandmann look and feel guilty. https://twitter.com/JackPosobiec/status/1087874952911572992Enough of that. Sandmann and his family have hired an attorney. And not just any attorney. Famed libel attorney Lin Wood announced Thursday that he would be representing Nick Sandmann, the Covington Catholic High...

An event hosted by METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich at the University of California-Berkeley earlier this month was interrupted by liberal students who stormed the stage in protest of subpar conditions endured by contract workers on campus. One student allegedly assaulted Salesforce.com founder Marc Benioff during the incident. Benioff was on campus on March 2 to participate in the public forum intended to explore the creative culture of the Bay Area through conversations with other leading cultural figures from the community, including Ulrich and the drummer's father, Torben Ulrich, who at 87 is still active in music, film and poetry. Members...

The anti-hunting dolts have gone into full doofus mode attacking James Hetfield of Metallica for hunting and narrating a bear hunting doc for The History Channel. I believe ClashDaily.com started the party by being happy that Hetfield does both and posting about it on our site. Check it out here, as the post went viral. Today, I’d like to point out that the Bible actually backs up Hetfield’s hunting. Yes, God actually ordains hunting and eating meat and there’s not one verse in the scriptures that condemns such activities as I write in my brand spanking new book, Rise, Kill...

The FBI, the Virginia State Police and the Fairfax police department turned up the heat Wednesday in the search for the abductor and killer of Morgan Harrington, the 20-year-old Roanoke County woman whose skeletal remains were found more than two years ago on an Albemarle County farm. Authorities have launched a multimedia campaign -- which includes a public service announcement by Metallica guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield -- designed to renew public interest and develop leads for investigators in both the Harrington homicide case and an earlier abduction and sexual assault of another victim in Fairfax. DNA evidence has tied...

Considering how immediate the best of it feels, it's always a little bit surprising how well metal music ages. While not everything still sounds fresh, many of the genre's cornerstone releases hold up extremely well. Slayer's Reign in Blood still sounds as fresh and vital as it did when it first came out, and Black Sabbath's Paranoid remains top-shelf. While not all of their albums hold up well, Metallica's Master of Puppets — which came out on this day in 1986, a full 25 years ago — remains a stone cold classic and an album by which other metal albums...
