This is an ongoing thread – meaning come back to chat, post information, or ask questions any time. Hopefully the thread won’t stagnate and I’ll do better at posting weekly (or bi-weekly) topics than I have in the past. (anyone willing to post a topic now and then we'll be highly praised and appreciated). We are in for some bumpy rides, and prepping can only help. If for peace of mind, if nothing else. We have a wonderful gardening thread and a current-events survival/prepping thread, and hopefully this one can piggyback off of those, maybe having a longer discussion about...

SPANAWAY, Wash. — A 78-year-old woman from Spanaway held an intruder at gunpoint after finding the man breaking into her home, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office. The woman, who goes by Sandy, knew something was wrong when her dog, Booboo, started barking Sunday night. “I opened my door, and standing right 2, 3 feet in front of me was a man. We looked at each other for a few seconds, and he turned and started to leave. And I said, ‘Oh no, you don’t. You stay right there!’” she said. Sandy said her neighborhood has been plagued by...

He’s not so tough now. Cops have arrested the monster who they say repeatedly kicked a cowering elderly woman in the head aboard a Bronx subway train — as callous straphangers did nothing more than pull out their phones to record the beatdown. But the suspect, restaurant worker Marc Gomez of Yonkers, is denying he kicked the woman — even as he insists she came at him with a knife. **SNIP** Gomez 36, was charged with felony assault and ordered held in lieu of $30,000 bail after prosecutors said he has a misdemeanor conviction and an open gun possession in...

I’ve been missing the vast amount of information on prepping, survival, camping, simple cooking, the old ways of doing just about everything – all the things nw_arizona_granny knew so much about and shared with us, along with numerous other posters with a vast array of skills and knowledge. We have our various related-threads here, a recipe thread, a gardening thread, and even a prepper thread. They are all great and I don’t mean to take anything away from those and the hard work their owners put in. But I was missing a place to talk about ALL those things, to...

Sen. Elizabeth Warren says President Donald Trump disrespects Native Americans by referring to her as "Pocahontas," and she says that while she's not enrolled in any tribe, "I never used my family tree to get a break or ... advance my career." Warren says her parents married in Oklahoma in 1932, and that "the story they lived will always be a part of me. And no one — not even the president of the United States — will ever take that part of me away." Trump frequently refers to Warren as "Pocahontas" to mock the Democrat's claims about being part...

Poor granny! In 2012, Dems portrayed Paul Ryan pushing her over a cliff. The Dems have now hauled granny back up, but only for purposes of having her dragged out of her apartment by ICE agents enforcing President Trump’s new deportation guidelines. Interviewed by Chris Cuomo on CNN this morning, Dem Senator Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island twice invoked the image, once speaking of “grandma” worrying “that somebody’s going to come up the stairs and pull her out of her apartment.” Later, Whitehouse fretted that the relationship of law enforcement with communities could be harmed because “somebody’s granny got dragged...

PORTLAND, OR -- The TSA says it's investigating an incident where a 90-year-old woman was forced to strip after setting off body scanners. Alan Charney told ABC affiliate KATU-TV that his mother Harriette went through the full body scanner at Portland International Airport when the alarm went off. TSA agents quickly pulled her aside. "It was obvious they were going into a search," Charney said. "But I presumed they were just going to sort of pat her down."

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) is lending a hand to Rep. John Tierney (D-Mass.) in his Democratic primary campaign. The liberal icon and freshman senator endorsed Tierney at an event in Salem on Monday, adding her name to a long list of other Democrats who are backing the nine-term lawmaker ahead of his competitive contest. “Congressman Tierney is a tireless champion for Massachusetts families,” Warren said in a statement. “We need to send him back to Washington so he can continue fighting for a level playing field for working families.”

Fifty years ago today CBS introduced a new TV series that sharply divided American cultural opinion. Critics and intellectuals hated it, and it became for them a symbol of how far television had fallen since the so-called “golden age” of live, New York-based programs in the early days of the medium. Most everybody else felt differently, however. The show became an instant hit of mammoth proportions. It spent its first two seasons at the very top of the Nielsen ratings. At its peak, it was being watched by 60 million viewers per week. As late as 1982, eleven years after...

Elizabeth Warren might have hoped to scare off more media inquiries into her claims of Native American ancestry as a career boost yesterday, but today’s front page of the Boston Globe makes it clear the problem isn’t going away — and in fact might get worse. Warren has insisted that she only cited her supposed Cherokee ancestry once at Harvard to meet others like herself, even though there is no evidence she took steps to socialize among other Native Americans at Harvard. A Globe review of documentation suggests that Harvard and/or Warren repeatedly made those claims, and that even if...

A feisty 91-year-old Long Island pharmacy cashier fought with a robber -- then insisted on finishing her work shift. "I want him to get caught because I want to smack him," said Florence Critelli after completing her day's work at the Rite Aid Pharmacy in East Northport. Critelli was behind the register just before 11 a.m. when a man gave her a dollar for a candy bar. When she opened the register to get his change, the thief reached over and helped himself to a handful of cash. Critelli leaped into action.

When an armed robber barged into a North Side motel room Wednesday night and ordered the six people there to the floor, he put a 70-year-old woman closer to her handgun. The great-grandmother knelt between the beds, reached into her purse on the floor and pulled out her .357 Magnum pistol. She fired one shot at the robber, who staggered from the room, collapsed in the parking lot and died. "It's a wonder she didn't shoot us all," said her 51-year-old son, who was preparing to hand over his cash when he heard the gunshot. "She's the worst shot in...
