Protesters blamed for the violence that broke out in Oklahoma City the last weekend in May were charged Friday with terrorism, rioting and assault. If convicted of the felony offenses, they could be sentenced to years in prison. Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater made the decisions himself on the charges in a get-tough approach meant to deter others from going too far during protests in the future. "This is not Seattle," Prater said Friday. "We're not putting up with this lawlessness here."

A federal appeals court judge repeatedly asked Friday whether dropping the case against former national security adviser Michael Flynn would mean police can escape accountability for brutalizing black people. DC Circuit Judge Robert Wilkins raised the possibility as Flynn’s attorneys and the Justice Department pleaded with a skeptical three-judge panel to order US District Judge Emmet Sullivan to dismiss Flynn’s case and his 2017 guilty plea for lying to the FBI. Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer charged with second degree murder after the death of George Floyd in custody last month, was reportedly negotiating with prosecutors over a possible guilty plea deal in the days leading up to his arrest.
