It’s just the flu, bro. Reports on Twitter (with video) show 5 politicians doing a surprise inspection of a hospital that has seen 200 people die due to Coronavirus and treated 5000 cases. It turns out that the “hospital” was empty and was just milking government funds with fake Corona patients. I don’t know what is fake news and what is not fake news in Brazil, but I do know that reported Coronavirus cases and deaths go up the more a government pays special funds for treating the disease.

It’s just the flu, bro. Things I am not panicking about: 1. The new strain of Wuhan flu hitting China 2. People who go to parties in defiance of limits to gathering size 3. Someone nearby me sneezing or coughing 4. The Wuhan flu “outbreaks” occurring all across America 5. 16 people testing positive after going to a Florida bar 6. Celebrities who contract Coronavirus 7. Just about any media headline about CV, like the 6 above, that is meant to make me panic

It’s just the flu, bro. Harris County (Houston) Judge Higaldo is looking to reimpose various lockdown restrictions - she says because the cases of CV are going up, but I say it’s because the Floyd riots seem to be over and it is time to punish the economy. I hope the pressure on her to continue easing restrictions stops her from doing what her totalitarian instincts tell her to do.

It’s just the flu, bro. Wisconsin and Oregon both had their Governor’s stay at home orders overturned by courts. But then with an appeal in Oregon and new county by county rules in Wisconsin it seems we still have enforceable rules in both states. Where is a state with pure freedom - a few non-enforceable guidelines but nothing to worry about? A judge in Texas ruled in favor of widespread mail in ballots. He says that lack of immunity to the virus is a physical condition. This is nonsense because the state already guaranteed mail in ballots for seniors if...

It’s just the flu, bro. Oregon courts have done the same as Wisconsin courts and struck down their stay at home order. Texas has permitted more businesses to open - but it is not enough as restrictions have been put in place. CV cases have just plummeted in some states, especially NJ. I worry about kids’ sports...many are still shut down. Sport builds children’s character and help make them healthy. It is maddening that restrictions on those haven’t been eliminated. Are there any Catholic Churches in the US that have removed masks and social distancing?

  • NPR Retracts Mike Daisey’s This American Life Piece On Foxconn For “Significant Fabrications”

At over a million digital listens, “Mr. Daisey Goes To The Apple Factory” is This American Life’s most popular episode in history. That’s no small feat for one of the world’s most well-known radio shows. When it aired, it set off yet another firestorm of controversy regarding the ethics of Apple (and other large tech companies) using cheap Chinese labor through major manufacturers like Foxconn. Mr Daisey, who has been touring for years with a monologue about his visit to the factories there and the moral implications thereof, provided details to This American Life to put together what was really...

This American Life is airing a new episode today titled "Retraction." The title and show are a direct response to the January 6th edition of the popular public radio program titled "Mr. Daisey and the Apple Factory," an adaptation of a one-man show that helped put Cupertino's involvement with Foxconn back in the public spotlight. "Regrettably," the show's producers write in the description of this week's episode, "we have discovered that one of our most popular episodes was partially fabricated." The hour-long show has been dedicated to clearing up some of the misconceptions, including an interview with Mike Daisey to...

The public radio show This American Life has retracted an entire storyline told by comedian and self-described Apple fanboy Mike Daisey that aired in early January after Daisey's translator said he made up significant details of the tale. In a press release, the show says the episode was the most popular in its history and was downloaded 888,000 times. The episode also sparked a petition for Apple to improve its working conditions that was signed by a quarter of a million people.

The activist actor who campaigned against working conditions at Chinese factories that make iPads and iPhones now admits he fabricated much of his "reporting." Mike Daisey went on NPR's This American Life and theater stages and TV talk shows with emotional tales of shocking hardships. Now Tim Minton says moral outrage is against him.VIDEO

Some professional journalists enjoy pooh pooh-ing the blogosphere because we lowly citizens simply don't have the required "layers and layers of fact checkers" that Real Journalists have to vett their articles though. But what happens when a Real Journalist organization really really really wants something to be true? Well then those layers of fact checking can go by the wayside like they did with this "expose" of Big Greedy Capitalist Apple and Demon Western Materialism (the iPhone). My favorite bit is where the author of the piece so desperately wants to paint Westerners as being so Greedy That Workers Must...
