In the fall of 1978, a Missouri high school English teacher and his students discovered that student copies of Fahrenheit 451 differed from the teacher’s personal copy–certain words or phrases deemed controversial or offensive had been eliminated from the special edition printed for school-age readers more than a decade earlier. This class may not have been the first group of readers to notice the differences, but they were the first to write to Ray Bradbury, who was unaware of the changes. A restored edition soon followed in 1979, completely reset and concluding with Bradbury’s final word on the sanctity of...

LAKE ORION, Mich. - He was a stern-faced sniper — and a soft-hearted Marine who handed out candy to kids in Iraq. He was a warrior who wrote poetry about life and death. He was featured in Michael Moore's antiwar documentary, "Fahrenheit 9/11," portrayed as an overzealous Marine recruiter who targeted poor kids. But Staff Sgt. Raymond Plouhar was far more complicated than that. And it was that complicated man who died in Iraq in late June, as he served with some of the same men he had recruited years ago. It was that complex man who was buried Friday,...

THE world is hotter than it has been for four centuries - and probably the hottest for 2,000 years - the United States' most prestigious scientific organisation said yesterday. In a report to the US Congress, the National Academy of Sciences reported that the "recent warmth is unprecedented for at least the last 400 years and potentially the last several millennia". A panel of top climate scientists told politicians that the Earth is heating up and that "human activities are responsible for much of the recent warming". Their 155-page report said average global surface temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere rose...

President Bush and some of his advisers received worst-acting nominations for their appearances in news and archival footage in Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11," which assails Bush for his actions surrounding the Sept. 11 attacks. Bush was nominated for worst actor, while Secretary of State-designate Condoleezza Rice got a nomination for worst supporting actress and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld for worst supporting actor. Wilson said that while "Fahrenheit 9/11" was a piece of anti-Bush propaganda, the president and his associates earned their Razzie nominations on their own. "It wasn't Mr. Moore's editing," Wilson said. "It's the raw footage of these people...

[Below is the floor peech of Rep. Ric Keller (R.-Fla.) regarding Electoral Vote count delivered on January 6, 2005.] There's a wise saying we've used quite a bit in Florida over the past four years that the other side would do well to learn -- GET OVER IT. Isn't it ironic that the only people who refuse to "move on" are the people from MoveOn.org and their hero Michael Moore? My colleagues across the aisle have two sides to choose from, the John Kerry side that acknowledges the election is over and President Bush has won. Or the Michael Moore...

New York - A cable pay-per-view company has decided not to show a three-hour election eve special with filmmaker Michael Moore that included a showing of his documentary ``Fahrenheit 9/11,'' which is sharply critical of President Bush. The company, iN DEMAND, said Friday that its decision is due to ``legitimate business and legal concerns.'' A spokesman would not elaborate. Moore has just released his movie on DVD and was seeking a TV outlet for the film. Earlier this week, trade publications said Moore was close to a deal with iN DEMAND for ``The Michael Moore Pre-Election Special,'' which also would...

I have a friend who was visiting with his nephew from Florida yesterday. He's just turned 18 and is a senior in high school in Bradenton, Florida. I'm not sure which high school he goes to. He told his uncle that one of his teachers had brought in Fahrenheit 9/11 and showed it to them as truth. He also told him that he thought Nader should be President. When he asked him why, and pointed out that Nader is a whackjob, his nephew said, "That's what they told us." Does anyone know what high schools are in that area, or...

Word that Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11" will be shown on cable T-V in Tucson before the November second election. Tucson radio producer Elaine Higginbotham says she's received Moore's permission to air the controversial film on Access Tucson. Higginbotham says she considers airing a film that takes a highly critical look at the U-S war in Iraq as a valuable public service.

Oscar winning filmmaker Michael Moore's Cannes Film Festival prized Fahrenheit 9/11 premiered in the Middle East in July. But since last June the camera-welcoming director has dodged Al Jazeera's interview requests. Considering that Moore featured clips from Al Jazeera in his over $100 million-grossing Bush-bashing documentary, why would Moore snub the controversial yet highest-rated Arab Network and pass on the opportunity to promote Fahrenheit 9/11, reaching their global audience of 40 million strong? Canada Free Press has obtained emails documenting Al Jazeera's repeated attempts to interview the outspoken Moore, "We are putting an international plan for the film in placeŠ...

VIDEO STORES ACROSS THE NATION TO RENT CUSTOMERS "FAHRENHEIT 9/11" FREE OF CHARGE While on his 60 city "Slacker Uprising Tour," Oscar-winning filmmaker Michael Moore is joining forces with video store operators in an effort to get as many Americans as possible to see the film before the election. Video stores across the country will be waiving the usual rental fee for "Fahrenheit 9/11," beginning on October 26. A recent Harris poll showed that 44 percent of Republicans who have seen the film gave it a positive rating. "It isn't possible to view this film and come out saying you...

Superintendent: 'Fahrenheit 9/11' Will Not Be Shown Again Moore Spokesman Says High School Students Should See Film POSTED: 8:59 am CDT October 12, 2004 BEAUMONT, Texas -- The Beaumont school superintendent on Monday assured parents that Michael Moore's film "Fahrenheit 9/11" will not be shown again in district classrooms. Carrol Thomas said the politically charged film, shown Friday at an alternative school, had no place in the Beaumont school system. "We don't need to be showing biased viewpoints in BISD," Thomas said in Tuesday editions of the Beaumont Enterprise. Parent Michael Kurth criticized the decision to show the movie, based...

alright, here i go... ironically, fahrenhype 9/11 presents a more devastating case a for michael moore's alleged, yet sometimes obvious, hatred of america. the movie focuses solely on F9/11, as should be expected from the title. it's never slanderous, although certain people interviewed have some choice words for mikey, heh. the movie starts off in the florida classroon, interviewing the black woman who sat next to him in the photo-op (i believe she was the principal). she disposes a few myths (the children were reading to him, the book was never upside-down, etc), and then proceeds to splice in commentary...
