Florida High School Showing of Fahrenheit 9/11?
10/21/04 | Self

I have a friend who was visiting with his nephew from Florida yesterday. He's just turned 18 and is a senior in high school in Bradenton, Florida. I'm not sure which high school he goes to.

He told his uncle that one of his teachers had brought in Fahrenheit 9/11 and showed it to them as truth. He also told him that he thought Nader should be President. When he asked him why, and pointed out that Nader is a whackjob, his nephew said, "That's what they told us."

Does anyone know what high schools are in that area, or live there and know which school specifically it was that did this?

I'd like to call their administration and raise bloody hell over influencing new impressionable voters right before the election. The school is a public building, and Fahrenheit is a rated R film. I'd be interested to know if they even sent home permission slips, or intend to show Fahrenhype or some other competing viewpoint.

I'd ask my friend to call up for details, but I don't think he wants to make a big deal out of it.

I do think some Bradenton parents might, if they didn't know what was going on.

If the teacher makes up this 18 year old's mind for him, I hope he does vote Nader for his first ever vote.

Sheesh.

I think a lot of Bradenton parents would be very upset. Time for some calls to the school board.

I live in Florida but Bradenton is pretty far from Ft. Lauderdale. If you provided more detailed information I would call myself. But I'm sure they have many schools up there.

And in California, they suspend kids from high school if they have a school yearbook picture with the American Flag in it.

I would make such a big deal about this. This is propaganda plain and simple and is about indoctrinating our children. It's WRONG and has nothing to do with education.

#1 Call the principal and lodge a complaint against this teacher. (Don't even bother with the teacher. Go over his head.

#2 Call the school board and complain.

#3 Alert the media, local paper, Drudge, Rush, any and all programming.

The school needs to be "outed" and the public education community need to know we parents WILL NOT put up with this undermining of our parental authority.

I'll ask tomorrow if he'd be willing to call and ask, but then his nephew would know who caused the uproar. He hates Kerry though, so he might not care.

The same thing happened here (Beaumont, Tx).

There were a lot of outraged parents.

No one will listen unless they are promoting President Bush.

Regarding Nader, my aunt who is a total liberal told me the other day that she and her entire family voted for Nader last time. LOL! I didn't say anything, but I thought a lot of things. Then she rattled on about greed and how awful Wal-Mart is and all of that. I just listened mostly (oh I couldn't resist a thing or two) and finally just conceded that greed is bad. What else can I say? Envy is bad too, but she won't see it. Besides, I do not define ambition, drive and success as greed, but whatever. And thank goodness for the successful -- or greedy, depending on your politics -- because they keep our economy going, keep people like my aunt employed, and pay most of the taxes for the greedy rest of us who want government services for "free."

Okay I did tell her that what she describes she wants is socialism. She said, "Yes, it's socialism AND it's social justice." See, and we thought liberals didn't believe in absolutes.

Just don't tell her NOT to vote for Nader. Remember a vote for Nader is a vote for Bush...

Oh I know. I showed total control on that. LOL! I'm all for Nader getting her vote again. There is no chance she'll vote for Bush, so Nader is the next best thing.

Add:

-> REQUIRE the school to show FahrenHYPE 9/11 for the same students and the teacher in question. Said teacher must sit through the screening without comment.
